II > VI > IV > III > I > V

You know it to be true.

The game's are just kinda simplified RPGs and if you're in an RPG mood without needing to absorb a fucking dictionary of mechanics and lore then Pokemon's got your fix.

Although X and Y were kinda disappointing (at least in length).

I want to be the very best, like no one ever was. To catch them is my real test. To train them is my cause. I will travel across the land. Searching far and wide. For each Pokemon to understand. The power that's inside. POKEMON !

doesnt feel like any other game imo. where once its finish the main story. the game is finished. in pokemon it feels like a way of life.

The way I see it, people like it because it's mainstream. It's the same reason why games like GTA and CoD sell really well each release.

When I don't like a game there are two possible scenarios:
- I didn't play the game enough to realise its qualities
- It's just not my type of game

In the first case, the solution is giving a serious try at finishing the game. If you decide it was not worth the effort, then the game just isn't your type.

I particulally grew tired of turn-based RPG games, even though I used to love this kind of game in the past.
Old-school games with increased difficulty that forces you to replay every stage after Game Over are also types of games that I prefer distance nowadays.

Fixed, for the most part.

I enjoy Pokémon mostly competitively, but I also don't mind playing through Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald. The challenge is just right (stupidly easy, but just hard enough to not be boring), the presentation is superb (I NEED MORE TRUMPETS), and Secret Bases are second only to Emerald's Battle Frontier for the title of Best Game Content.

My first Pokemon game was Yellow. I've always really enjoyed RPGs, and I liked the idea of collecting different monsters to fight. Since then, I usually buy one after a long break from the series to keep it fresh for myself. The exception was Ruby and Fire Red, but after that I didn't buy another game until X (though someone gave me Heart Gold, but I haven't played it much). I do enjoy them when I play them, and I'll continue to buy them when a new release offers something that the previous games don't.

Games don't really get to be mainstream without having a reason for people to like them, though. The social aspect can be a huge boost to a game's popularity. In Pokemon, you have trades and battles, in CoD, you have playing online with friends. First people like it, then it becomes mainstream.

yes it does
Your English is slightly better than the average English-speaking person on a video game forum.

I like the series, because it's been part of my childhood. The music influence vary drastically one from the other, it feels like old geeks, beat lovers used to do homemade percussion on chiptunes or something, then they're fed audio formulas and hardware to create their music influences on a big project.

art wise, the game's a jewel. It does have colorful elements, scenarios that vary and fit either real life elements (station trains, crowded streets, seasides), using new drawing techniques (from a technical view).

online, multiplayer and touchscreen elements are a must, new generation add-on the game has earned.

what about other monster breeding games? do you guys like other series such as dragon quest monster? I'm not sure why, but I loved DQM more than pokemon. I think I played it first before playing pokemon, so perhaps that's why I cannot like pokemon.

Because DQM was my monster-breeding rpg 1st experience and when I played pokemon, I was disappointed because it's not like DQM (although I think I only like the 1st one)

Well... First of all, I didn't say Pokemon wasn't good... Second the main problem is that the game became mainstream in the 90's and since then fans will religiously buy Pokemon games even if they're not great, but as long as they don't suck.

It's not to say Pokemon is bad, but it gets way more love than it deserves. I remember before Pokemon X/Y was released 3DS owners talked about other games, nowadays it looks like the 3DS has no other game but Pokemon since it's all players talk about.

Although the game is mainstream, it should not be considered odd having people not like it. I played Pokemon X to the end and, to be honest, it's the only 3DS game I have I considered selling. (Although I'm keeping it in hope it will become rare)

I buy games that aren't amazing but don't suck all the time, even if they're not sequels. I'm a Pokemon fan but I don't religiously buy every game (as I pointed out in my previous post) the because they're mostly too similar. Besides, every main Pokemon game has consistently achieved a score of over 80 on Metacritic, so there's clearly a pattern that the consensus is the games are pretty good. So you're implying that it doesn't deserve to be mainstream when the facts indicate otherwise.

That's your own distorted perception, imo. I don't talk much about Pokemon with my game-playing friends these days, mostly Bravely Default at the moment (with the 3DS, at least). Of course there are going to be a lot of threads here on Pokemon, it's a socially involving game and that's going to spill out into forums. But it's not all players talk about. I see buzz around Kirby Triple Deluxe, Inazuma Eleven, and more.

Nothing odd about anybody disliking a particular game, everybody has their own personal tastes and it shouldn't be surprising if people don't like it. Just like when people don't like Call of Duty or other mainstream games. If you ask me, it seems like you've built up contempt for the game by seeing how much others like it. It's not uncommon. I thought Pokemon X and Y were pretty good for the game's first foray into true 3D. Now that the base engine is there, the next game should be even better.

ps, I think Pokemon X and Y are likely to be the least rare 3DS games.

I follow 2 Nintendo-related news website. Even though now they are starting to focus less on Pokémon it's not uncommon to see some Pokemon X/Y article every couple of days.
Also, I am a member of 2 facebook groups of 3DS owners, one of my city and the other of my university. All they talk about is Pokemon X/Y, of course there is the eventual "Do you think this game is good?" or "What did you think of the Nintendo Direct?" In gbatemp, of course, you get to see a lot more varied content.

What I disliked about it is how everyone was saying things like "Best game of the year" or "Best pokémon game". Few seemed to notice flaws like the single-player game being too easy, lack of 3D, frame rate issues and et cetera. I feel like just because they improved the graphics people are over praising the game. Well... once the next pokemon games come out time will tell if people will have the same opinion.

I guess rare was the wrong world. I meant like 15 years from now maybe it will be as expensive as the gba pokemon games in my country (they cost the same price as a new 3DS game)

If Pokemon articles are newsworthy, of course news sites are going to post them. But I only really follow nintendolife.com for Nintendo stuff and the Pokemon articles there aren't discussion-y articles, they're actually time-sensitive based on current events (like the mythical Pokemon that was unveiled a few days ago). As for Facebook groups, I don't really go in for those much, so I can't really say anything.

I noticed the flaws in X and Y, I just didn't think they were bad enough to detract from the overall experience. The frame rate drops are perhaps the most annoying, but they only occur in battles and it's not significant enough to make the game unplayable. The Pokemon games have never been particularly hard, imo, that's probably one of the reasons people like it so much. If you want a challenge, set yourself some difficult goals like using low-level 'mon or beat the gym leaders with vulnerable types.

Overall, I think they did a great job of keeping the general Pokemon visual theme whilst adding some impressive camera variations to show off some of the scenery. TPC clearly made some design choices and dropping 3D meant improvements could be made elsewhere. They also added the new type, Fairy, to counterbalance Dragon-types, more customisation options, more mini-games, better multi-player options, the global trade service and more. I don't think it's anywhere near GOTY, but I would definitely give it an above-average rating.

Anyway, enough said about that, we could go around in circles here all day over our differing opinions.

I loved pokemon when I was younger, but everything repeats so strong in every game. Today I cant stand it anymore.

Just stop! A pigeon is a pigeon, no matter what weird eyes or colours you put in.

In my opinion the ideas to create pokemon are at their limit.

Dont get me wrong, I love icecream.. but seriously? And this is an Kingdom Hearts enemy, not a pokemon!

Oh, hi Arbok! Havent seen you since the first generation! ..you took that eyeliner I told you not to use, dont you?

Nothing against the system or any other mechanics in the game, but they should really get some new and fresh ideas for different pokemon. And no, I dont mean an icecream or an chandelier.
