I follow 2 Nintendo-related news website. Even though now they are starting to focus less on Pokémon it's not uncommon to see some Pokemon X/Y article every couple of days.
Also, I am a member of 2 facebook groups of 3DS owners, one of my city and the other of my university. All they talk about is Pokemon X/Y, of course there is the eventual "Do you think this game is good?" or "What did you think of the Nintendo Direct?" In gbatemp, of course, you get to see a lot more varied content.
What I disliked about it is how everyone was saying things like "Best game of the year" or "Best pokémon game". Few seemed to notice flaws like the single-player game being too easy, lack of 3D, frame rate issues and et cetera. I feel like just because they improved the graphics people are over praising the game. Well... once the next pokemon games come out time will tell if people will have the same opinion.
I guess rare was the wrong world. I meant like 15 years from now maybe it will be as expensive as the gba pokemon games in my country (they cost the same price as a new 3DS game)
If Pokemon articles are newsworthy, of course news sites are going to post them. But I only really follow nintendolife.com for Nintendo stuff and the Pokemon articles there aren't discussion-y articles, they're actually time-sensitive based on current events (like the mythical Pokemon that was unveiled a few days ago). As for Facebook groups, I don't really go in for those much, so I can't really say anything.
I noticed the flaws in X and Y, I just didn't think they were bad enough to detract from the overall experience. The frame rate drops are perhaps the most annoying, but they only occur in battles and it's not significant enough to make the game unplayable. The Pokemon games have never been particularly hard, imo, that's probably one of the reasons people like it so much. If you want a challenge, set yourself some difficult goals like using low-level 'mon or beat the gym leaders with vulnerable types.
Overall, I think they did a great job of keeping the general Pokemon visual theme whilst adding some impressive camera variations to show off some of the scenery. TPC clearly made some design choices and dropping 3D meant improvements could be made elsewhere. They also added the new type, Fairy, to counterbalance Dragon-types, more customisation options, more mini-games, better multi-player options, the global trade service and more. I don't think it's anywhere near GOTY, but I would definitely give it an above-average rating.
Anyway, enough said about that, we could go around in circles here all day over our differing opinions.
