So I have a 3DS (Zelda Limited Edition) which is able to run all DS games (through a hacking card).

Now I want to play some 3DS games. I have researched a bit and found out that there is the Gateway card for this. I looked up at stores where I live (Turkey) and found this one: http://www.syd.com.tr/NINTENDO-3DS-GATEWAY,PR-806.html

It costs ~$115. I have been shopping from them for many years, buying things including the hacking card for the DS games, a few hacked PSPs, etc and never had any problems. But still, the price is bugging me since the same card is for sale at Amazon for like $250. Can I trust them and buy this? Or are there any better hacking options at the bay and should I wait before spending money on this?

Please enlighten! Thanks!

Is your 3DS on a firmware between 4.1 and 4.5? Check If it's 5.0 or higher through System Settings, if it is you can save your money, it isn't going to work on it.

As for the Gateway card, yes it's legit, yes it works, yes it's the only way to play 3DS ROMs except the Gateway clones which are cheaper, but doesn't have all the features Gateway users have (yet). No, it won't work if you have a 3DS on 5.0 or above.

When you say $115, is that American dollars? The one I bought was roughly $80 from Modchips Direct, and now it's $71. http://www.modchipsdirect.com/gateway-3ds.html

I think you're getting ripped off if you buy it for $115. Heck, just have someone buy it in the US from Modchips Direct and mail the carts in a letter. It'd be cheaper. Also, listen to the guy above me, the cart will be useless if you're not at firmwares 4.1-4.5.

System Settings say that I am on 4.2.0-9E. Since it is between 4.1 and 4.5 I assume it will work?

And yes, it is 115 USD. Is it really expensive for a Gateway card? Is what I am seeing a clone? What features will it miss? Mind you I don't really need any "features" other than the fact that I need all my 3DS roms to work. And one last question, if it IS a clone, can I use the Gateway software updates on the said card?

Thanks for the replies!

Yes, if your'e on version 4.2 Gateway will work for you. Now speaking price wise I would recommend to just order it from china or a trusted reseller that you like from the Gateway site ..

Yes, your firmware will work. You can update to 4.5 if you like, but it is unnecessary.

Regarding clones, as far as I am aware, there are no cards that are clones of Gateway that actually say "Gateway." If you were to buy a clone, it'd be an entirely different product, like R4i gold, Orange 3DS, MTcard, et cetera. I can't really comment on the price of the card, though, because we live on opposite sides of the world. I assume you went to the site you did because they're based in Turkey, but I'd try other countries and see how much it'd cost to ship to you. Also, check the official resellers page of Gateway here: http://gateway-3ds.com/resellers.html That site is not listed. So you may well be getting scammed. The official sponsor of this site has the card for $30 less, and according to people here, they're reputable. I have no knowledge of this, though. Here's the page in question: http://nds-card.com/ProShow.asp?ProID=501

Yes, you can run the exploit for using gateway. Do not update firmware now, afaik there's no way of downgrading via software.
The gateway3ds is selling for 70-80 usd. Look for sellers on the official gateway 3ds site and buy from one of those to be safe.

Edit - wow ninja'd thrice. Embarrassing. :(

If you're on 4.1-4.5, you can definitely use the software. If you want to test it, go grab the files from Gateway's latest link and drop the launcher.dat on your 3DS's internal SD card's root, and the GW_INSTALLER.NDS on your DS-mode flashcart's microSD card's root. Then insert the DS-mode flashcart, start the GW_INSTALLER.NDS from your flash card's menu, and follow the install instructions. From there, just exit back to the 3DS menu with the home menu, open system settings, press other settings, then Profile, then hold the "L" trigger and press Nintendo DS Profile. The Gateway menu should open, and the first thing you should do is make a NAND backup. To do this, once in the Gateway menu, press right on the d-pad until you get to "BACKUP SYSTEM NAND". Then press the "A" button and then press the "start" button on your 3DS. This will ensure you can always fix your console if something goes wrong. Directly following this, turn off your console (the NAND dump can take up to 15 minutes, but wait it out) and then take the internal SD card out of your 3DS. Put it in your computer, copy the NAND.bin to a safe place on your computer. Only then you can start using the emuNAND features if you so chose. A word of warning, but although I personally haven't run into it, it seems if you're unlucky, you can be accidentally soft-bricked while using Gateway's 2.02b launcher.dat. If you're skeptical, modify the link from Gateway's download page to say b1 instead of b2 and download that instead.

Otherwise, here's a site that I bought my Gateway from, I think it's pretty much the cheapest they come while still being legitimate Gateway cards.

Good luck!

Be careful about updating - if you connect via Wifi and do an update it will bring you to the latest 7.x, you don't get an option to update to 4.5. You can update to 4.5 only via some retail cartridges.

If you are between 4.1 and 4.5 there is no need to update at all.

Note that it does NOT run every game. All currently released games except Pokemon and Animal Crossing work, with support for those two scheduled "soon", but Nintendo added a new security mechanism in 7.0 that is likely to prevent games that are meant to be used on that firmware from working on a Gateway and god knows how long it'll take them to get around that. These games do not exist yet apart from the digital-only Pokemon Bank and Youtube apps, but they will arrive and they will not work. That does not mean they will never work but it may take a long time.

If you check closely, it says that the offer on Amazon is from "Gateway". Aren't they the official resellers?

More than likely it is someone redistributing them at a huge mark-up to rip off those who aren't too keen on the 3ds scene and don't know about the game/flash cart shops that sell them online.

You can get the Gateway for half that price. For example it's $62.42 on Eachmall: http://www.eachmall.com/goods-30962-30962.html
I ordered one there on a sale for ~$58 a few weeks ago and it works great.

It'd seemed like you actually want to pay more. They have already told you, it's maximum 80 bucks (even less in some places). Order in one of the official resellers, and end of story.

It's not like I am trying to pay more. I just wanted to make sure and prevent any mistakes. Of course I am not going to pay $240 for that one on Amazon :)
