Hello.
Probably a noob question but, is it possible to make a software NAND backup of my 3ds (v4.40) using a r4i 3ds deluxe card with the v3.3b launcher.dat file? or must i use 3.1/3.2 version launcher.dat for it?
I've looked through some guides, but most are for the gateway, running 2.0b and using the L button to boot into diagnostic mode to get the NAND backup option. When i hold the L button while clicking on nds profile button, it usually hangs (not crash and reboot) and doesnt enter any diagnostic mode

You have to install the files from the blue cart.... That way you get the GATEWAY menu... From there you can run shit.
If shit is working well on whatever you have, DO NOT start mixing!!! This is like "HOLY SHIT, IMPORTANT AS FUCK!!!" as this may and probably will brick your console!
DO NOT do this!
If you want to use GW, clean your system, if you can run shit now( like Pokemon X/Y) don't mess with shit!
If you want to run Animal Crossing and Pokemon Y/X and you can't right now, WAIT! Just wait.
Running R4i Gold or whatever (I don't have them, GW user, New as the babies bottom) you will want to wait for the firmware to update.
I'm content running GATEWAY BETA 2.02b... I can play all the games I want... Except Pokemon X/Y.... and it's kind of only those I'm waiting for...
Got hooked on Fire Emblem (least excpected... I playde some on the GBA... liked it... But got hooked on the 3DS version...... But I WANT TO PLAY POKÉMON!!! T_T)
Sorry had a 6 pack before writing this... so it may be weird:D
Listening to the worst of x factor... you should have a look :D
Fucking awful ass your own ass :D

Don't know... dou you have a GATEWAY cart? If so, yeah... I don't know how the r4i gold works...
get a GW :D

the Menu is not present in the oldest version of R4i software (which is based on GW 1.2), or latest 3.3b (which is ALSO based on GW 1.2).
The L button on this version only trigger the GW diagnostic mode (which will not work on R4i because it's not a gateway).

If you want to make a NAND dump, use the Launcher.dat from Gateway version 2.0b1 (you don't need the flashcard! only the file) or R4i deluxe v3.0 (which is based on 2.0b1), press L and enter gateway menu.
Select NAND dump, and it will create a nand.bin on your SD card.

Thanks. Is there any chance of bricking if I enter the r4i mode using the 3.0 version launcher.dat? I don't intend to use it for playing any game, just to make a nand dump and I'll downgrade again.

If it's not based on 2.0b2 then it's safe.

Okay, i've been lurking here a long while now, and just recently registered an account. My question is this - is fierce waffle's ROP Loader safe to install on a 4.5 system? I've seen reports of bricking of DS mode, causing a required system reset to try again. The reason this concerns me, is because it's an ambassador system, and although there's no doubt in my mind that eventually someone will work out emulation for these games, I don't want to effectively lose them, since I wouldn't be able to redownload them again without updating my system first (of course meaning no homebrew...). Is there a safer alternative, or more importantly, has anyone figured out what causes the occasional DS mode bricking?

I haven't seen any reports of DS mode bricks with this one.

Cool...must have missed that...glad someone looked into it a little further, because that's really the only thing that was holding me back is having a safe installer (i know anything involving system exploits always has some inherent risk though...)

I am looking to buy a flash cart. I've heard the good and the bad of Gateway and R4i, but I'm not sure which I want to buy. Which you would guys suggest? Also, where can I buy (I'm in Canada) on of these delightful cards?

Gateway may be the better option. I suggest waiting for the 2.0 final release before buying anything. If R4i manage to update their's to multirom as well (and there is no bricking risk) then buy the cheaper one.

I have GW card, and I've got 3 questions:

1- I've used gateway launcher 2.0b2 to build the emunand, updated the emunand online to 7.1, then I downgraded to 2.0b1 launcher. Now by using the 2.0b1 launcher with this emunand that was built using the 2.0b2 launcher, am I being exposed to the brick code in any way??

2- Can I run the GW installer from a regular R4i Gold card (The one that is used for NDS games)?? And is that safe??

3- Everytime I run the GW installer from the blue card it hangs, then I have to press home to exit, and re-run the installer in order for it to work. Is this normal?

1-no
2-Yep. You can even use the installation point in the menu of the R4i Gold 3DS by R4ids.cn.
3-I have the same problem. Seems to be normal.

Hi, I ordered my GW3DS just before the reports of bricking, what is the safest firmware to use with the GW without risking a brick? Will I be able to use emuNAND safely? Also my second 3DS is on 4.3 is there any difference between 4.3 and 4.5?

Just use 2.0b1, 1.2 or wait for 2.0 final after some community tests and yes, you will be able to use emunand safetly with 2.0b1 so don't care about it.
About firmware version i'm not sure about that, some ppl recommend use a retail cartidge to update to 4.5 but it will work on 4.3 without problems but i have similar problem so let's wait another opinion.

I have a similar question, i have a 3DS XL at version 4.1.0-8U, it's recommended update to 4.5 in order to use it or i can do at any other time later?

Some fellas here have reported problems with 4.1 which were reported to have disappeared once upgrading to 4.2-4.5.

Besides that there is no reason to update in that range, as all versions in that range were just
System stability improvements and other adjustments
aka. flashcart blocking.
