I played a little bit of it as well and it played nice. The only thing that bothered me was including another set of villians the series didn't need - I prefer when SEGA sticks with the basics in this regard, we already have enough characters in there as it is.

As for the "hate", the opinions are divided - some think it's a fantastic game, others that it's total garbage.

The only people that are hating on Soinc Lost World because it's different.
It's not the mindless hold right to win or the mindless DASH to win gameplay they are used to.
OMG there are actually puzzles and complex platforming sections to break up the gameplay and make the run and jump secitions more fun. HOW ABOUT THAT!? VARIETY IN GAMEPLAY!
Allot of the gaming community nowadays makes me sick and makes me feel bad about humanity.

As far as what I think about the game;
At first having a button control when you run seems dumb, but I found it useful at times on later levels.
The level design on earlier levels seems lazy as I found it incredibly easy to skip entire sections of the level via spin-dash + double jump.
Also I think the audio seems more compressed on cartridge than it did in the demo. I have no idea why.

I think the pre-order bonus of 50 lives is stupid honestly. if you sucked so hard at the game, why not just grind the first level for lives?
Then again, the later levels, I've hit a few game overs. But most of my deaths feel cheep as I had no idea of what was coming up next. Most of the time it feels like I'm playing a high-speed dungeons and dragons mixed with Sonic Xtreme.

Also I am going to address the "OMG IT'S RIPPING-OFF SUPER MARIO GALAXY!" buttheads. Go look up "Sonic Xtreme" The level design is inspired by the lost game, which is why I find the name "Sonic Lost World" as a nod to the lost game.

Sonic The Hedgehog? Pure Genius.
Miles 'Tails' Prower? Super cute. Also Genius.
Knuckles the Echnida? Badass. Genius.
EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER AFTERWARDS? Idoitic.

If you actually look at how the events of the Sonic universe took place (eg time), Sonic actually met Amy Rose before he met Tails.

Dr. Eggman, Shadow, Rogue, E102-Gamma, Tikal, Big, and somewhat Cream/Cheese are respectable Sonic-related characters. Others like Blaze, Silver, etc, are the ones who should not have existed.

Big the Cat is hardly memorable. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles are what it should have stayed out, but that's just me. Big is just a big derp lol. Funny thing is his VA is the same dude who voiced Duke Nukem. As for this game though, I haven't tried it, might get the demo just to see what it's like :P

I personally am not a sonic fan ever since the beginning, so if you're a fanboy, I'm the last person you want to talk to :P

Well to start, I never really like how fast sonic went, too many things was happening and I couldn't really keep up. I feel like Sonic Lost Worlds on the 3DS has made sonic take slower approaches to his environment, which is alright for me, but others don't seem to like this. Many of the courses are similar to Super Mario Galaxy (and yes I know Mario Galaxy wasn't the first to use planetoids and field of gravity), some just feel like they were taken straight out of the Galaxy series. Unlike the home console version of Lost Worlds, the 3DS version has less varieties between side scrolling and 3rd person level, which I think is a big mistake SEGA made.

That's why I think the game has been hated so much. It's that sonic is slowed down, similar to Super Mario Galaxy (although I don't see how that's a bad thing), doesn't bring new things to the table, and people seem to think the new characters are stupid, which I kinda agree with.

My biggest problem is that sonic never seems to gain any sort of momentum at all. He just comes to a dead stop as soon as you let off the circle pad. From my understanding, sonic games are about speed and quick spacial judgement. While im not opposed to how great the game looks, im having a problem with the actually mechanical. I guess if you just imagine its "Super Sonic Galaxy" ill be fine.

The game is great in its own right, it's unlike any other Sonic game out there.

One of the most challenging and hardening aspects of it is collecting all Red Rings.. That takes a lot of accuracy to not fall.
