This will put an end to ninety's console days, much like Sega and the Dreamcast. They make good handhelds though!
Keep Dreaming.

That's the thing though - the system has at least three times less juice than its competitors. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but in a year or two developers will have to cut corners when developling software for the Wii U, just as much as they cut corners when developing software for the Wii. For this reason and this reason alone, Nintendo has to offer something extra in their package. To remain competitive, they need to balance out the lacking hardware with superior content. They can't count on the casual crowd anymore - the casual crowd is gone, fooling around with their iPhones and Android handsets - they have no interest in a tablet that they can't take with them on a trip to Starbucks.
But if you think about it, look at cod, fifa and AC. They are the main third parties that people play, but how much power do they take out of the console, probably less than half its capabilities. They are just simple fun games that look like they are a huge thing. The wii u can handle to games easily. It is just the consoles exclusives that will take out a lot of the consoles power since they know their own console the best. More and more third parties will come to the wii u when they can be bothered to port the games to the wii u. It is not the power that is their trouble, its the sales. Thats why nintendo needs for first/second parties, which will inevitably bring more console sales which will make third parties port games to the wii u.
need to stop with the kiddie game bullshit. also everyone is one those smartphone iphone these days... so this is there 3rd flop? i know the first one is the Virtual Boy... but what's the 2nd?
You're talking about PS3/360/WiiU/PS4/XBOne multiplatform titles - those games are made with last generation systems in mind, but those systems will not stick around for much longer. Sooner rather than later, there will come a time when they'll enter the realm of obscurity, and what will happen then? Who's going to care about those 4 million people who invested in a Nintendo system? If the PS4 and the XBox One continue selling as much as they are selling now, the answer is "nobody" unless Nintendo does something about it.
That's... great? But once those games are gone, sales for those consoles will significantly drop, people are already getting tired of those games. Because those are the games people are playing, not for first parties, only sony fanboys play first parties. Then what game will take over? And it wont stay at 4 million, it will likely increase to 6 million or more by the end of 2014 because this is nintendo's first crunch year with mario kart 8 and super smash and bayonetta and monolithsoft x. Next year we will hear of the next zelda and a lot more first/second party games. So nintendo is only selling badly because they didnt time their releases well. If mario kart 8 was released in 2013, their sales would probably be at 5 million by now.

That's... great?
The PS4 reached 4+ million and the XBox One reached 3+ million in two months, they show no signs of stopping, what makes you think that they won't completely trample the Wii U within the 2014 fiscal year?
The problem with the Wii U right now is that Nintendo's innovative strategy of releasing a console with no games surprisingly turned out to be unsuccessful (thanks for that one, Zero Punctuation! ) - they had a year of a head start to build a massive install base and they blew it big time. Now customers went to the competition, bought PS4's and XBox One's - such is life.
C'mon, man... you can't be serious...That is exactly what im saying, they didnt release games, but 2014 will bring lots of great games. While it's competition does not seem to have as many great quality games,
But you have to ask yourself .... how could Nintendo NOT have MK8 ready for Holiday Shoppers (Christmas 2013) ?If mario kart 8 was released in 2013, their sales would probably be at 5 million by now.
Which explains why those games consistently break records while selling millions of copies year after year.
Just because you want this to be the case doesn't mean it is. Just because you and some people you know are tired of those games doesn't mean the mass audience is.
Ignoring the fact that Sony's first party titles tend to sell pretty well across the board, they'd still have a consistent stream of third party titles. So, you know, whatever the next major third party franchise is.
So they have that going for them, which is nice.
If Nintendo can only reach 6 million sales by the end of 2014, that wouldn't just be poor. That'd be embarrassing.
The release of those titles will definitely bring sales up, but the boost is only going to be temporary (as we saw with Pikmin, WW HD, Super Mario Again, I guess, etc.). Those games will bring in Nintendo holdouts, but not people outside the fandom (or, at least, not to a major extent). If they were, then the N64 and Gamecube would've been massive successes.
C'mon, man... you can't be serious...
Thief? Titanfall? MGS: Ground Zeroes? inFamous: Second Son? Final Fantasy XV? Driveclub? The Elder Scrolls Online? The Order: 1886? Kingdom Hearts 3? Wolfenstein: The New Order? Both the XBox One and the PS4 are bustling with upcoming games for 2014, I'm not one to play the list game, but now you just sound misinformed.
But you have to ask yourself .... how could Nintendo NOT have MK8 ready for Holiday Shoppers (Christmas 2013) ?
It's just another massive failure.
Wow... uhm... okay? That's, like, your opinion, man.But you do not hear much hype for those games. Final fantasy 15 is getting much hate. The only games i can see being system sellers are elder scrolls, infamous and kingdom hearts 3.

The Elder Scrolls Online alone will push Next Gen consoles as if they were cure for cancer - that's guaranteed. If people will go nuts over it as much as they went nuts over Skyrim when it was announced (and they likely will), this one title will blow so much wind into the XBox One's and the PS4's sails that they'll take off and fly into the orbit.
They bought the 3DS for a variety of factors - they bought it because the price was cut, because it recieved third-party support and because at long last it had games, and not just Nintendo games. It's selling because it has a variety of titles - what has the Wii U got in stock for early 2014 that could entice the customer beyond the usual Nintendo offering? Not much that couldn't be played on the PS3 or the 360 - systems that people already own. I really can't think of a single title beyond Bayonetta 2 that'd fit in the outlined category, and one title is not enough, especially if it's a niche one anyways.lol nice metaphor. Anyway, it is my opinion. That is why i will buy a ps4 for kh3. But yes, i guess you can see that all those blogs are just exaggerating, because the wii u is not a failure, nintendo's marketing and release dates is a failure. Just like how the 3ds was a failure, people said they sold their console because it was "crap", but when it became the best selling console so far they re-bought it and said it was amazing. The same thing will happen to the wii u, it may not be the best seller, but it will be great. Those people are hypocrites who ride along in the boat
Well, since smartphones have fifa, consoles won't be such a big hit to buy those games.
Only COD and AC are mostly holding up the consoles third parties.
Sony's first parties sell well, but not amazingly and new third parties do not sell well at first.
And i meant 6 million as a minimum if they flop the year, but trust me, i saw the hype for smash bros and mario kart 8, just because it didnt do so in those days doesnt mean it wont do it now. People bought the ps4 and xbox1 because they are fans, but now those consoles are collecting dust because no amazing game is out now.

Smartphones have tie-ins for just about every major franchise out there, but that doesn't stop people from playing the console counterparts. There's a huge gulf in experience between playing, say, Fifa on a console and Fifa on a phone. Until that changes, there's always going to be a wide audience for the games on consoles.
This is so hilariously wrong I don't even know where to begin. There's tons of successful third party franchises, from GTA to Saint's Row to Tomb Raider to Bioshock to the Batman games to stuff like Madden and Battlefield, and I'm only listing some of the big money names here.
If you can't find successful third party games, you're not looking.
The Last of Us is the fastest selling PS3 title behind GTA V.
As for the second point, that can be a problem (in any medium, actually), but it can be overcome with smart, effective marketing. Take a look at the push behind Titanfall and Watch_Dogs; they may not pull CoD or AC numbers right away, but considering the level of excitement they've been drawing, they should do very well for themselves.
A hysterical trend is a better indication than your gut feelings.
And really, collecting dust? The things have only been out for less than 3 months. The Wii U didn't get anything worthwhile until the Summer after launch, so let's not get ahead of ourselves here.
Probably not.Once they do it will make a change
You underestimate FFXV's hype. Where are you getting the hate thing from? But you do not hear much hype for those games. Final fantasy 15 is getting much hate. The only games i can see being system sellers are elder scrolls, infamous and kingdom hearts 3.
