At the end of the day Nintendo keeps posting losses on the Wii-U, and lowering projected sales (on the 3DS as well).

Are they doomed? I don't know. But obviously the 3ds "selling remarkably well" isn't going to cut it here.

Just in general people can't think that if Nintendo makes a failure of a console that their handheld can save them. In the end the Wii U will just be a leech to the profits of Nintendo and thus the profits of the 3DS. The 3DS has to do the sales work of two consoles and while it's doing fine, it's not doing as good as the DS and it's not gonna keep the company okay against the Wii U's failure.

Has any numbered or even unnumbered post IX FF title set the world alight? Give or take 11's spell as a halfway popular MMO sort of thing anyway. X has not aged that well and was not quite the monster success of previous titles, XII I actually liked but not so many did, XIII was torn apart by most and is in no danger of seeing a resurgence (though as Sonic Adventure seems to have I could be wrong) as well as trounced at time of release. For most it is the endless stream of remakes (good model lads, keep it up), the occasion go around with FF Tactics (though that is probably the very definition of niche) and possibly Kingdom Hearts depending upon how you want to look at it that do for Final Fantasy these days. Their attempts to be the Japanese EA (look how many publishers/devs their absorbed) are probably the bigger component at this point.

As for the rest of the thread. Some fine whine people, I shall be giggly for the rest of the day.

Finally, someone who agrees that Final Fantasy games past IX are not all they're cracked up to be! X was all right, but once X-2, XII, and so on were released, it went down the shitter. Rehashes, "remakes" on mobile (remakes my arse, those remakes are not worthy to be called Final Fantasy, they're abortive"). No wonder Hironobu Sakaguchi left Square Enix.

I forgot about X-2.... why would you remind people of it?

As for the remakes I was actually being serious. Turning Final Fantasy into basically Tetris or pong (something that is on everything, almost to the point of becoming generic) is a good plan as far as I am concerned. Granted the execution of most of them was usually left to hackers to tidy up but hey.

As for post IX FF titles being less than stellar... I was not under the impression it was an unpopular opinion.

Oh right, X-2 is like the F-word, someone people don't mind it, others like me are bothered by its mention :rofl2::creep: X-2 is just a steaming pile of shit lol. But have you seen the mobile "remake" for Final Fantasy VI? It's bad, really bad, they chibi-fied the overworld character sprites and have much worse graphics, but that's just me. Personally, aside from translation, the Snes version is ideal, the GBA version was rushed and has glitches galore. Final Fantasy IV and V aren't as bad in comparison. Final Fantasy is dead to me.

I agree. My point was that so long as they have the 3DS, they can dump the Wii-U and survive, if worst comes to worst, which admittedly it is...

The 3DS is not doing that good, and i don't believe it will get better. It is vastly underpowered and most of its software is meh and overpriced. Don't forget 3DS's forecasts were slashed too...

Nintendo's best efforts went towards fighting piracy. Well, they had a moderate success in that front, i am sure they are happy about it...

Wii and DS were pirated to hell, and they were much profitable. But Nintendo is too greedy for its own good...

The gamepad does have a use. At least nintendo gives some innovation. You just want to have the same boring controller over and over again. So what you want to see in games is just better graphics with every generation. No, i guess not. The gamepad provides off tv play which has troubled many families for a very long time, children wanting to carry on playing but having their parents say to turn it to another channel. It also provides another angle to view games in, such as maps, secret hidden easter eggs and many more uses. Look, just because you do not like it doesn't make it bad. It's a great innovative idea which it's competitors didn't do.

Competitors have started to employ similar strategy. VIta can use Remote Play and Xbox has SmartGlass.

Off TV has one bad limitation, its range is incredibly short. I couldn't use it past a single wall. Whereas the other two allows you to tap into Wi-Fi LAN to increase range. Games that support Off TV is also scarce.

Innovation in the industry should lie in the games, not in the controller. If I had a controller that worked through anal contractions I'm sure it'd be "innovative" but in the end it's still full of shit.

And the idea that non-Nintendo games are "just the same" every iteration is honestly the dumbest goddamn idea on this planet.

But vor remote play you need a vita, and tjere are some person they want oft TV , but hat es the vita. And for thevother xou need a tabletcomputer. In the Wii u you only need the controller. And also a developer said, thst the remote play and the smartglass aren`t so powerfull.

All innovation means is something new. Like Yahtzee says about opinions, there can be wrong ones, just as there can be stupid or badly handled innovations. Were Nintendo not so fucking set on making every single console they've ever made have an "innovative" controller, the Wii-U would be 50/100 dollars cheaper and much more obviously a new console as opposed to the biggest marketing fuckup in the history of gaming short of the racist PSP ads.

Also why the fuck are Nintendo fanboys so set on harping about how great Nintendo is for keeping their old franchises alive and changing almost nothing, yet everyone else is a lazy sellout money grubbing hack? Seriously, there's ignorance, and then there's downright idiocy.

    EDIT: Semi-ninja'd by Guild. Figures.

For the first part, that's actually a con if you think about it. You can't purchase Gamepad separately at store except in Japan. It is strange considering that Nintendo said that Wii U can support up to 2 Gamepad. Gamepad IS region locked so you cannot import one from Japan.

Your second part makes absolutely no sense. Gamepad does not contain any processor. All it has is a Bluetooth transmitter and onboard H.264 decoder. It simply decodes video coming from Wii U. Games are still calculated from the system, not Gamepad. It is no different than a Vita or a tablet.

Furthermore, Sony was the first one to come up with "Off TV" play with PS3-PSP Remote Play.

3 out of 6 home consoles have been market leaders

Sony ps1 had massive Fmv skipping issues, ps2 had massive disc read error issues, and ps3 had mjor total system failure issues. Nintendo consoles all basically work perfectly fine to this day. Nes connectors get corroded from blowing in them but if you know what your doing your fine.

The doom and gloomers can site the n64 and GameCube but those consoles, while not market leaders, were money makers for Nintendo. Wii u may not be the smashing success it's predecessor was but Nintendo should be fine. No reason to think Nintendo is doomed because 1 out of its last 4 consoles is not a smashing success and market leader. Ds, 3ds, and wii are major successes, Nintendo will be fine even if the wii u is not as successful as they hoped a and you shouldn't be surprised if the next console does well.

Thank you, i totally agree with you, but i still believe that the wii u has a chance, once it's hit titles start to come out like mario kart, super smash, bayonetta and zelda, also "X". Once that time comes we can judge if it will be successful or not (likely it will). It probably won't be the top selling console, but it will be good. Seeing as most sony fanboys already purchased a ps4. Also nintendo is not good at one hit wonders, instead it spreads it sales over time. But i believe this generation of gaming is very good. My vote is for ps4 and wii u.

All those problems you mentioned were launch model issues. Although no where near as big as those problems, launch model Wii did suffer a problem. Where if you leave WiiConnect24 on while the system is off, the fan would stop spinning and cause Wi-Fi board to heat up. Wi-Fi board sits on top of GPU and will cause GPU to went kaput. When Super Mario Galaxy came out there was also some Wii's couldn't read dual layer disc and had to be serviced by Nintendo.

When you are early adopter for any console, expect technical problems.
Correction, they were barely profitable at end of life. They are not exactly money maker, Gameboy family is.

Funny, never had a single issue with the Wii I bought in 2007, never had it overheat, malfunction or get disc read errors for dual-layered discs. Must have been luck :D

The Problem is Nintendo relies too mucho on Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Kirby, etc. I think and some of you might agree with me that we are sick of those franchises.

WHere the Fuck is Star Fox, Metroid and so many others? Not only that Where the hell is the Third Party Support? Is nowhere to be found. The Wii U has Zero Third Party Support. People are carrying less and less on Nintendo franchises. Yeah they're good but they keep milking Mario and the games has less new features or just some gimmicks to have an excuse to make a "New" game. Thats why you saw that Super Mario 3D World flopped also on sales(Not literally flopped but compared to all other Mario Games, yeah it did).

Kids doesnt even care on Nintendo games anymore they now play on Mobiles or have moved to more mature games and thats why you see that almost all online players on CoD are Kids.

Not only that their consoles are always(Just lately with Wii and Wii U) way behind in tech. Why releasing a console that was or is just a lil bit more powerful than a tech from 8-9 years ago? Also their software and Online Services are so outdated and lacking on key features. Damn you can't even send a Friend Request to a random person that you played a match with. You can only do that over their miniovercensoredFacebook called Miiverse.

I don't want to see them die but damn their choices and actions are so stupid and wrong. IMO Nintendo need a new President.
