Good one :)

I'd applaud Gateway's competitors, if one ever came along.

Heres the thing I'm concerned about. Just because they've offered to reach out to customers does not necessarily mean they will follow through with what they have arranged. Having not told us any of the information about what they're looking for not to mention that steep shipping and handling fee to be returned back to the owner.

They are not paying the shipping?

could someone give an approximative of the price of the whole shipping process?

I don't think it would cost too much, actually. But it will surely take a long time if you go with the cheap route. The expensive route is likely not an option. It's now going to take two weeks to hear from the first console sent for repairs.

Assuming they are in France, and assuming conditions that the package weighs around 2 pounds, shipping minimum is upwards of $23.95 depending on if you can stuff your console into a small flat rate box with adequate protection. This gets there in about ten business days. Express mail (1-3 day delivery) is about $55 and climbs higher with extended options.

Same prices for China, give or take a few bucks. Same conditions and constants. If you want to send it a cheaper route, you risk damage in transit and customs, and if you want to ship it so it gets there right away, you gotta pay a big sum.

And this is USPS, completely ignoring FedEX or UPS, which is going to be in the sum of $100+ for the CHEAPEST label.

its sad people are already jumping the gun on whether or not gateway will fix it if it is bricked from a official gateway card and the system hasn't even been put in the box or left the house to ship it to gateway.

Im skeptical about this for the legit GW bricks. How are they going to know the difference between a clone brick and a legit brick. Does the text on the BSOD say the same thing? The end-result brick has to be the exact same in both situations.

My guess is they said that so that clone users would fuck off and stop bothering them, logically that would make the situation better for them, since the majority of bricks are from clones.

We can only wait to see what happens when an actual legit brick is sent to them; what will they say.

As you can imagine, we can read any Nintendo 3Ds like a book. If you send us a console that was bricked any other way - most likely using a clone product (MT card, 3DS Link, R4i 3DS etc.) - we will instantly see it, and you will be required a $100 shipping and handling fee to return your bricked console
So they are going to hold your 3ds hostage, if they find\say it was bricked any other way. A $100 fee to send back a bricked console yikes!! Can you really trust them?? Not sure I would

Precisely. Call me skeptical, but I'm not interested in someone holding my console like that.

I was here thinking a portion of that would be for wasting their time.

Again, I don't know the shipping courier nor the exact details (no one does) but shipping bills internationally can get expensive relatively quickly. Just use a few shipping courier price quote websites and you'll see what I am going on about.

So, they don't even ask for backup of nand on file? Apparently sure, that the nand is intact, and something else is broken...
Makes one wonder, because they put big emphasis on what needs to be included, but no mention of the nand backup.

They are doing this because they are 100% sure that no Gateway user got bricked. So they don´t have to actually fix anything, because no one is going to send them any bricked 3DS (maybe 1 or 2 maximumthat got bricked for other reason).

We normally provide friendly and quick support. But the clone team is a very organized mafia which uses dozens of fake Gateway users to pretend their problem are theirs.
Oh my god. XD I assume all the homebrew devs that confirmed the bricking code are mafia too.

Everything about GW is shady as hell.

Its great that GW are willing to fix the console but whether they really do it is another question. If they claim its because of modified launcher then you are screwed. Its just your words against theirs.

In one of the patches they stated they bricked their consoles many many times with the still not released feature which will prevent accidental update. So I figure they can fix the brick problem. If they really care they could just release the method to fix the console. No need to force the people to send the console to the other side of the world. International shipments are quite expensive.

But ofcourse making sure "other" people(clone/mods) cant unbrick is of higher priority than helping their own customers....

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
