when gateway will release the 2.0b2 update, retail games will work 100% ok with emunand updated to 7.1 (you have to use gateway classic mode).
they already work 100% ok with emunand, but without 7.1 you can't download the patches (ex. pokemon and mario kart) and without the patches you can't play online.

You're talking about 3ds carts right?

I was just referring to DS carts

Hi, does the r4I have the same or similar problems as the gateway?

it's quite obvious since they use the exact same software! (and worse hardware)

uh sorry, I didn't notice you wrote DS and not 3DS.
if you use DS retail carts, no problem but gateway's exploit gets canceled every time you do it, so you have to reinstall it with the .nds file (emunand won't get erased).

Might be the wrong place to ask, but has someone managed to find out what type the 24 pin microchip on the gateway on the sd slot side between the clock source and the 8 pin nand/flash/e²prom/whatever_you_want_to_call_the_save_chip is?

Just asking out of sheer curiosity, as I wasn't able to find a corresponding chip on the clones, can't make out any markings on the gateway pcb shots and don't want to crack my gateway open.

why do people keep saying it is not, then??? >:V

As for now: misinformed sheepish hearsay. Hell, I'd wager most of them don't even know what a field programmable gate array is or does. Or have even a remote understanding of the intrinsics of VHDL and similar languages. Heck I'd be surprised if more than 50% of those making these bold statements could tell what a half-adder is without looking it up first.

Fact is that according to all the PCB shots I've seen the gateway has an extra chip (and some extra passive hardware) which i suspect to be a microcontroller. Could be that it's only function is to drive the LED (which the clones are missing, too), could be it will play a role in multirom/nandsave support (from a board layout point of view it would make more sense to place it closer to the led if it is it's only purpose).

And the only claim from team gateway themselves I've seen yet was that the clones are missing updateable hardware required for the new features, without any mention of what hardware exactly (hint: microcontrollers are in circuit programmable).

But as always: we will only know for sure when gateway delivers and the clones don't.

Because the beauty of FPGA's is that you can repressent any logic behavior using them, as long as they offer enough gates and it doesn't have to be low latency. So they might be able to get irt working with the hardware provided, but would have to do so with their _own_ coding...

Hello bkifft,
What problems does the gateway card have? I only want to play Ds and 3ds games. I am on 4.2.0 U. I don't see a need to update the OS. Does the card not allow to save games? I thought I read that issue.

Thx for any help you can give.

For me the Gateways only bug/problem with the current software build (2.0b1) is the savegame bug: seldomly on exiting a game the 3ds freezes which results in a loss of the savedata of that session.
E.g.: you play game A three hours, save, exit, it works. you play it again for 1 hour, exit, it might bug. Then you lose that last 1 hour of gameplay and are back on your 3 hour savegame.

Said to be fixed in the next release, untill then just exit the game in shorter intervalls (I do it every 30 minutes, so i wont loose to much).

Others have reported some other theories/workarounds ("when it works once it will work untill the next reboot") which sadly doesn't hold true for me.

Thank you for the information. What about the r4I gold deluxe? Does it have the same issue? If they both do then would the gateway card be the best purchase?

Well, the Gateway is the only 3D mode flashkart i own, so I can only relay information in regard to the others I've read from others:

As of now the r4i gold deluxe has the same features and limitations as the Gateway (afore mentioned save bug, some games (Pokemon and Animal Crossing) don't work because they have a different way of saving, only one game per microSD card).

Some people (me included) speculate that the clone cards will not be able to offer the features Gateway has announced: multirom support (multiple games per microSD card) and saving for Pokemon and Animal Crossing.

Therefore my advice: If you don't want/need a 3DS mode card now, wait another one to two weeks, by then it should be clear.

If you want/need one now: If you don't care about having multiple games on one microSD and/or don't care if you can play Pokemon, Animal Crossing and possible future games with their save system or like to gamble, buy an r4i gold deluxe or 3dlink.
If you want a high probability (no guarantee) to get multirom and newsavetype game compatibility buy a Gateway

Thank you that's a clear understanding. I'll get the gateway. The games that have issues with the save function will just be deleted and not played ;) simple fix on my part.

What's a website I can order and receive the gateway card fat? I'm in California.

What are the safest steps to formatting a micro sd card for a new game after writing a game on it already using win32 disk imager? I think I've done one wrong already and corrupted a previously working 16GB Sandisk Ultra class 10 micro sd card :( already e-mailed the support for an RMA

LOL. You can't break an SD card just by corrupting the data partition, you can get it working again by just reformating it using Windows Partition Manager, or any other partition managing tool.

I tried mounting an SD card without partition, and Win32DiskImager detects it correctly (it's in the drop down list).
Maybe because I'm on WinXP and it doesn't prompt to format the drive automatically? WindowsXP adds it to the device list, gives it a letter, and asks to format it only if I try to display the device's content.
