Misc Wii U locks up when accessing eShop

So, twice my system has locked up when I tried to access the eShop. It just hangs there, without music, trying to access it. My connection is fully functioning as I can access YouTube and Netflix just fine, so it's not my connection, I'm on the most recent system update (it's 4.0.2 I believe), but twice I had to force shutdown my system. I mean, what sweet hell is this? Has anyone else had issues accessing the shop? The funny thing is, it worked just fine when I accessed it last week, the only thing I changes was the connection since my roommate took his router, and I'm using yet another roommate's router. Again, using the internet itself works fine as does watching videos, but locking up? This is baffling indeed.

Funny thing is, the vWii side is hacked, yes, (been hacked for nearly a year) but last week it worked just fine, but I had to change what router to use since my roommate took his and am now using another one in near my room.

mine locked up on the eshop when the internet connection dropped to low and for the same reason with a system upadate error . next time it happens do a speed test on your internet you might find that's the problem

Well, it would certainly explain why it's freaking out. Not too far from the router (2 m tops), but the speed is pretty abysmal. I'll test my wireless connection on speedtest.com to see what it yields. Thank goodness my apartment complex is getting Google Fiber next month, maybe it'll actually work Could also be that there are too many devices using it at one as it's not exactly a high-end unit, so it could be putting extra strain on it.

All I could think of when I saw this was that the loading program wasn't working right; there was some sort of bad code in the dol file or something that made it stop loading. It doesn't have anything to do with the internet since Youtube and other apps work just fine. Have you/can you call Nintendo? I dunno how to fix this.

The Wii U eShop uses those files too? I just get confused since it worked fine before my roommate took his router and swapped over to another roommate's Belkin router. Maybe the router is overloaded? Cheap routers can only handle so many tied devices at once, so maybe I need to free it up. Can't call Nintendo now (I don't think...?) but I have their number. I just hope they don't ask me to send it in for any reason since the warranty is, well, kinda void Damn, I hope I'm not the only person with this issue on the Temp. Changing to another router isn't an option since all other ones in the complex are password protected, and I don't have money to get a new one.

Oh well, guess I can't support Nintendo's digital service buy purchasing their products for download

Thank you for mentioning Youtube when my son is watching youtube it makes it impossible for me to use my wiiu online and if it does work its choppy and cuts out and freezes during a game and youtube caches and buffers so if you do have a bad connection it will keep downloading and only if you catch up with the buffered download it will become choppy and pause and rebuffer...

For the past couple of weeks, my Wii U would freeze. Then, earlier this week, I was re-trying the Monster Hunter 3U demo which was installed on my ext HDD, but it kept having errors about insufficient power, even with a Y-cable. Had another HDD (smaller capacity), so I transferred everything to it (which happened to transfer just fine with two drives and all 4 USB ports used by 2 Y-cables), and began using that instead. The game loaded up just fine, and so far, I have had not one single freeze, nor any 10-second-long freezes when I press the Home button. Even when going into Data Management, it displays the system memory and ext HDD memory within a second, whereas the other one would take upwards of 20 seconds. I'm thinking that original HDD was starting to go kaput.

So, if you have an ext-HDD hooked up to your Wii U, unplug it and see if you still have the freezes.

I just used my Wii U for a bit on eShop to see if anything on sales is worth buying, no hang up at all.

Unlike others I use 32 GB USB flash drive to store my eShop games (currently only Wind Waker HD and Wii Fit U). So I cannot tell if regular HDD will cause problems for lock up.

Nah, can't use my HDD with Wii U since it's once of those self-powered units, I need a USB Y-cable to use it so, no, that's not causing it. Like I said before, it's weird as I can surf the internet and YouTube (not the dedicated app, it sucks) just fine, if not a bit slow since my ISP sucks big time. Oh how I can't wait for Google Fiber, maybe it will actually work well. Damn this is infuriating.

All I have in the Wii U is a 16 GB SD card for vWii hacking stuff (emulators and such), no HDD or USB drives are plugged in. FML. I'm thinking either A, the connection has really gone to crap or B, the router has too many wireless devices tied to it and is overloaded (and these low end units are prone to such issues). I need to disconnect my laptop from the network and see if it helps, but if not, I might have to call Nintendo.

Yes, you should do this. It's just like a computer; too many programs slow down your processor. I'm glad my computer is powerful enough to let me surf the web and listen to windows media player Something I'll throw out there is the Wii only ran one program at a time; it was either on the disc channel or the weather channel. Now stuff might be more convenient, but if stuff starts to go slow, then too much is goin' on.

Edit: And I'm going back to my movie marathon in case I don't answer for the next day or so.

You live in Kansas City? Lucky you for having Google Fiber at hands. You definitely need router upgrade for Google Fiber, mainly router capable for Gigabit Ethernet on LAN AND WAN ports.

Meanwhile I'm stuck with stupid ATT DSL 6 Mbps with 150 GB monthly bandwidth cap. Urgh.....
