That's a nice price. Shame I don't live in the US. If you mean Reicast, the speed should be great but the compatibilty ATM is not good. I had a go of it on my Nexus 7. Loaded up Shenmue then cried at watching everything glitch at nearly full speed.

I wish I wouldn't have missed this. I don't REALLY want an Ouya, but $60 isn't a bad price for an emulator box haha.

I wish I wasn't too late either, but I would have took advantage of that offer to sell on eBay. I'm actually surprised to see ouya prices on ebay doing so well. I thought it was an underpowered flop that no one cared about.

the big gaming mags would have you believe that. yet many great kickstarter projects are supporting it. there are some wonderful games among its collection of over 500. its emulation support is pretty great. what can the big gaming magas/sites report on? there isn't support from big development houses. we aren't seeing the next gta VI or final fantasy title hit the OUYA. they can't exactly report on homebrew and emulation. so instead they point out its slightly dated hardware, the navigation/menu woes, the difficulties they had at launch, and lack of big name game franchises.

check out this youtube channel for some great game suggestions: https://www.youtube.com/user/DayOfTheOUYA/videos
here is a listing of emus (tho somewhat outdated now): http://dayoftheouya.com/a-list-of-all-known-emulators-for-ouya/

I'm not going to bother with the ouya because its already irrelevant in my eyes. Its basically an android mini-pc, and there are already more powerful alternatives that costs just as much or less than the Ouya. It was already obsolete by the time it was released. There'd have to be some really awesome exclusives that the developers are too ignorant to have on the play store, which is unlikely due to how terrible Mobile games are.

the ps4 is obsolete. there are computers you can build that will do much more, today, and in 6 months, even more. but does that mean it isn't worth owning? if you are simply looking to always own the next best thing in hardware, then you are only looking for bragging rights among your peers. there are some wonderful mobile games, just like there are great indie games and great homebrew. for 99 bucks you are getting a machine that can play them. and handle emulation. for 99 bucks you also getting awesome support from the developers. if i tweet sony or microsoft i get ignored. if i tweet OUYA i get a response. it is pretty amazing to know that your well written comments can actually help shape the future of the product. the machine itself is a tiny, aesthetically pleasing, little box that sits in the corner of your shelf and provides hours of fun. if you can't see it for the fun then i am not sure why you are on a gaming forum. you should view games for their mechanics and not for their graphics.

i always prefer to discuss the fun over the hardware's ability, with that said, OUYA will be releasing a hardware update in 2014 as part of their annual upgrade promise. wouldn't you rather support a new company with 1-2 yr hardware updates instead of 6-8?

Ouya doesn't appeal to me at all. It doesn't have strong exclusive game line up. Games available on Ouya is also available on other platform.

I already have a PC lookup to TV that handles my emulation and media player need. Nothing is unique about Ouya that makes it a must own for me.

Don't get me wrong for sub-$100 it is an excellent choice for budget gamers (if you root it for Google Play even better), just not for me.

Please don't compare console to PC. There is nothing obsolete about PS4. Console has fixed hardware, allowing developers to do low level/bare metal programming on game engine. Same cannot be done on PC. That is why PC gaming is inefficient, and requires considerable more performance than console to be playable.

lol, I think Another World was replying that the PS4 was obsolete in response to Chocolinas comment, but you missed the irony in it ;)

modern consoles are a pc built with a single set of parts. So if everyone bought the same dell, based on what you are saying, that dell would now be a console? if developers weren't building their graphics (one example) to run on a variety of graphic cards, you would see less inefficiencies than console gaming. when they are compiling to a single set of hardware found in hundred of thousands of homes it is much easier to concentrate on other aspects of the game. but make no mistake, a console is just a computer that is already outdated. the only magic going on under the ps4 shell is that it has been designed to provide experiences for the next 7 years, because they know, the day it launches, it is already outdated.

i am really not trying to upset you. i am simply pointing out the fact that a console is a pc. once these technologies hit the shelves, they are outdated. that doesn't mean they can not still provide great experiences. one easy example is Ature for the atari 2600. released just a few years ago, it is a zelda-like experience for a 30 yr old console. extremely outdated by today's (bias) standards, yet extremely fun and worth playing a few times through.

i own a lot of systems that provide similar experiences. i also have a lot that do not. in regards to the OUYA, i've found it a very fun machine so far. it has great emulation offerings and can pair with a variety of controllers that most everyone already owns. i can quite literally fit it in my pocket and bring it with me for casual gaming sessions. there are a great many games worth playing on it, yet i'll be the first to admit that a lot of those among its library are not. the same can be said for every multi-game system released to date. i haven't read about another android "mini-pc" that has the same support, the same customer service, and the same promise to upgrade hardware annually. Julie Uhrman is not in this for the short term. this isn't another 1-off by a 3rd party manufacturer in the hopes of capturing part of the market share. yes, just like you, i can do most of what the OUYA does with my PC, but carrying my server from house to house and setting it up is not ideal. those same gaming/media experiences aren't running on a $99 pc.

that is correct. =)

Could you name some of them?
No I can't, or more accurately I wont, I'm just going to generalize any/most Android Mini-pc with a 31xx (42xx are on their way but irrelevant here) Rockchip series, or 44xx Samsung Exynos chip series. You're not going to get prettier-looking games Android games (Asphalt, Dead Trigger, Little Inferno) if thats what you're interested in, but you may get a few extra frames in your benchmarking scores (Really who cares), but more importantly, smoother performance with a few of those higher-demand emulated games. They're ugly as fuck, but slightly, very slightly more powerful, come with more connecting features and options like two USB slots (With an OTG). The point is most of them cost less than the Ouya. Yes they don't come with things like an extra controller or something, but some of us may already have spare devices that can connect to android like a PS3 controller or Logitech Keyboard.

But I'm not saying I want those crummy Androids for TV systems, just saying that one is no more special over the others because they all run the same OS on similar hardware. At that point you might as well just get a slimport cable and do it better on your phone. And I'd like to stay strict to the android vs android content because we're talking about hardware prices at or under $100/ Just why the hell would anyone bring consoles or PCs to the mix. The only acceptable comparison to go by here is that Vita TV, which actually interests me, because unlike Ouya, it has some exclusive games.

If you care about a console for your TV for $100, get Vita TV.
If you want an emulator for your TV for under $100, get a rikomagic or a diotech or something.
If you already have a smartphone, google your phone's model and see what you need for Video Out.
And because PS4 was thrown in the thread for some unknown reason, and you have the $450 to buy a PS4, then get a PS3.

What advantages does the Ouya have alone, that I can't already substitute with other stuff?

If you care about a console for your TV for $100, get Vita TV. // Except Vita has no gaems and Vita TV has less gaems ;O;
If you want an emulator for your TV for under $100, get a rikomagic or a diotech or something. // Those aren't gaming consoles and don't have the game developer support that Ouya has. I don't know any real numbers, but Ouya seems to have the best support out of all the Android game consoles
If you already have a smartphone, google your phone's model and see what you need for Video Out. // I did this with my S3. It's not great. Using an MHL cable there seems to be some lag. Maybe it's just my phone.
And because PS4 was thrown in the thread for some unknown reason, and you have the $450 to buy a PS4, then get a PS3. // The reason, and the ultimate flaw in your argument, is that you are comparing specs to game experience. "Why get an Ouya when you can get different Android device with better specs?" for the same reason people will get a PS4 and not a new PC. It's not about specs, it's about the experience that the device offers.

What advantages does the Ouya have alone, that I can't already substitute with other stuff? // Like I said above, it seems to have pretty decent game dev support that is exclusive to Ouya and not the rest of the Android devices.

Just arguing for the sake of arguing. Like I said in my other post in this thread, I'm not a huge supporter of Ouya or anything.

Just arguing for the sake of arguing. Like I said in my other post in this thread, I'm not a huge supporter of Ouya or anything.
Vita TV is Japan only. But Vita is bigger over there than it is here with a better equipped library than we know over here. One Toukiden, or Japanese version of Ys on Vita is worth like a dozen Dead Triggers.
And those developers that "support" Ouya just adapt their games to the Play store anyways. That makes Ouya less unique, but its a kick in their buisness if they don't appeal to the broadest amount of audience possible.
I've only ever tried Slimport on Snap 800 devices. The latency is slight if any on my television.
I don't see as its a flaw in my argument as I'm talking about $60-$90 and similar priced devices. Anything thats not Android and costs over a couple of hundred dollars shouldn't even be mentioned in an argument like this. Otherwise the argument leads to "Ouya vs PC with four Titans, who will win?"

And you've finally talked me into getting a Vita. Memories of Celceta looks beyond sick.
