From the 3DS Home screen:

Tap Settings >> Tap Profile

From here, you have two options:

1. You can simply tap Nintendo DS Profile. This will launch the "Gateway Mode" and bring you back to the home screen with your loaded ROM showing in the cartridge section of your home screen.

2. You can hold the L button and then tap the Nintendo DS Profile option. This will launch the Gateway GUI so you can use some of the flashcart's advanced features such as NAND dumping and to set up your emuNAND. I use the term "Gateway GUI" because it's a blatant copy of team Gateway's GUI.

Edit: So I guess to answer your question, option 1 will be the easiest way to explain to your kids how to load games. Settings >> Profile >> Nintendo DS Profile >> Tap the ROM icon for what ever game is written to the micro SD in the flashcart.

I don't own a cart, but this is what I've learned.

  1. Put in blue cart (DS Cart), and launch it on the system.
  2. Find the installer ROM (should be pretty simple if you only keep one file on there) and run it
  3. Go to the home menu and into "System settings"
  4. Go into "other settings" --> Nintendo DS Profile
  5. System should do its thing, just wait 5 sec
  6. Put in 3DS cart with ROM on it, you are good to go!
Note, however, you will have to setup some things. If you know how to setup the cart, great. If you don't, I'm sure someone on here can help you.

Also, steps 1 and 2 only have to be repeated on every boot if you go into a DS GAME. 3DS GAMES will work fine, but if you go into a DS game or cart, you will have to re-do steps 1 and 2.

So it is pretty basic?

They will not need to use any of the advanced options they are 2 young girls (under 10) that just like playing the games.

You say show the loaded rom? is it just like the Nintendo ds where they select the game from a list?

No. You can only put one ROM at a time on an SD card. So it will show that one ROM when you use the Gateway card.

I'm really new to these 3ds's and feel like a dick keep asking so many questions but just to clarify

They will not want to play old ds games as they both have ds's from years back that I got the r4 cards for.

They literally will only be playing 3ds roms

Only 1 rom per micro sd you say?

Would an option be to buy lots of small capacity micro sd cards to put the games on so they are interchangeable/easier for the kids?

I'd set-up the EmuNAND for them if I were you, and disable the internet settings in both modes, along with the wireless switch -- and put parental controls on the internet settings. Update the EmuNAND for them when a new release supports 7.0+ and/or they want an eShop game.

That's an option, yes, though coming ~Christmas there should be an update for the Gateway allowing for Multi-Rom (soon-to-be-ripped-off by the other team), so I'd just get a 32gb MicroSDHC (or 64gb+ MicroSDXC, but nobody knows if it will support that) [for each] if I were you. They're pretty cheap on Amazon right now.

The R4i Gold Deluxe or whatever the fuck it's called comes with 2 cards: one which is a DS cart that is only used to install the exploit, and another one for running 3DS ROMs. Once you set up the SD/micro SD according to the instructions in the update you'd download from R4's site, do the following:

- Insert the DS cart in your 3DS
- Launch it and install the exploit by tapping on the file you would've added to the micro SD card inserted into the DS cart Once that's done, you no longer need to use the included DS cart at all, since your girls won't be playing DS games on them.

Once you're done with that, you write the ROM to the micro SD you'll be putting into the OTHER flashcart for 3DS ROMs, and follow the instructions I outlined above. Not to sound like a dick, but you really should read the instructions that R4 includes in the firmware release on their site for that flashcart. It outlines the steps pretty well, with pictures even!

Iron clouds lol I will let you off with that one. I did have a look at them but I got to a point where it said something like 'you need to do this each boot' and had a lot of steps involving putting sd cards into laptops and stuff which my kids wouldn't be able to get their heads around.

Your last post put it in the terms that I understand and I thank you.
