The update is much appreciated Romsstar. It's unfortunate that you have to face yet another major wall that you have to somehow climb over (and yes this may take some time) but hopefully when you overcome it, it will be your last major obstacle, as you seem very close to the finish line.

It especially sucks when you're so close you know. Not far from it in any case...

My understanding is that the PC and the HDD in it are currently in a repair shop, which is why he has no access to the information on it.

We have heard from Roxas, who plans to look into the situation, but still does not have access to the computer with the original source code on it. So, yeah, still in limbo for the time being, but hopefully it will be resolved.

Why not simply create a new tool? if someone has the original tool it shouldn't be hard to recreate it.

HA! You sir are funny! I'm going to guess that they do not possess the source code and writing it from scratch would mean trying to solve each hurdle again without Roxas75's help. I'd sooner wait for him to become available and continue to translate files in documents than suggest developing a new tool. I think you have this idea that it's simple or that the people that developed it in the first place are available. This is not the case.

Well I am a developer and have made several tools for modifying games. So for me at least making my own tool would be better than having to rely on someone else who could potentially disappear not to mention reversing a tool that already works is much easier than creating one from scratch.

I am not a skilled ASM hacker, and Romsstar is primarily good at scripting languages. We need someone to make the tools for us to use, Roxas made some, which need to be improved. We had a programmer volunteer to do the improving, but who has thus far done no work on them that I am aware of. Roxas does not currently have access to the original source code and is understandably reluctant to begin again from scratch.

If you would like to volunteer to make some tools for us, that would be helpful, otherwise, we're rather stuck until such time as Roxas is able to improve his original tools, or we find someone to make new ones for us.

Exactly this. For now I believe it's wiser to wait for Roxas since I don't see any other options.
We're not talking about writing a simple extraction tool here after all.
It's about recreation of a format, not many programmers can do that and if they can it is mostly buggy.
Roxas tool wasn't written in one day. It was weeks and months of research and work.
Anyone writing this from scratch would probably be busy months with it.

And naturally neither the fans nor us want to wait for such a long time.
I'm sure Roxas will be able to do as soon as he gets access to his old source, whatever needs to be done.

What exactly did happen with his computer? Seems like an abnormal amount of time to get a repair done. Now if he had no repository online and his hard drive failed that I could see that taking awhile. It's also understandable if he has become busy for the next little while but what did happen? Knowing won't speed things up mind you but will bring me some peace of mind XD

There is a lot of documentation on the formats on Xentax. Along with extraction and text editor tools with their sources. So it wouldn't be a matter of starting from scratch.

What exactly is wrong with the tool on xentax anyway? http://forum.xentax.com/viewtopic.php?p=76041#p76041 looks capable of editing the files and fixing up the pointers and such.

EDIT: I just noticed Romsstar posted on there saying it doesnt work... I'll take a look and see what the problem is.

That tool doesn't work on text insertion for the story it insert just fine but the game will freeze when you play it.
If I remember it right.
