LOL, the Chinese would not pay you big money for a 3DS decap. They could do it themselves, or pay the same company you are to do it.
mansonss - Just be sure you understand what decapping IS, and what it ISN'T. Decapping isn't some magical process where you pay someone $2,000, and in return you receive 3DS secrets. I don't know much about the process, but don't you drip acid on the chip, and photograph each layer?

For modern chips like in the 3DS, there are a ton of layers. There's the possibility that even a professional company will fail to decap it properly. After you get your pictures back, someone with very specialized knowledge has to examine it to get anything useful out of it.
If you have the money to blow, then sure, decap it. Just post the images in a thread here or something. If you wanna decap it because it sounds cool, then save your money!
They were not asking for money the last time I heard. That team actually IS working toward something meaningful. Best thing to do is give them help if you understand coding, linux, and "smp" stuff for linux. Getting three cores to work together within a linux environment. Correct me if my view is off. Its not that its no big deal, I just think it would be a great thing to help move things along so it doesn't take, say, 6 years (although it might still). I know it's a lot of money for one person. But since I will have the ability to spend that much, I'd much rather make thousands of people happy than spend it on useless things.

Thanks for sharing. I did not see that. I wonder what hardware and it says 41% of goal reached. I've only followed their threads for updates. I may be totally blind.
About 3ds....
Anyone who would pay $2,000 or whatever it costs seems to be asking to be ripped off. They likely were in in scam before, or are quietly surprising everyone. Talking about Neimod vouching for 3ds decapping fundraiser. Then Megazig who is around f0f vouched for Neimod. Nobody knows. They could use the info and not share it.
Just saying, people need to be cautious. Paying obviously puts risk on one person but I cannot emphasize enough: unless you personally know and or see somebody face to face, you could just be gifting info to scam artists who already were gifted over $2,000. Sad but true.
Decapping anything on the 3DS would accomplish absolutely nothing. You can only really analyze and take away information from chips developed in the late 80s and older. The 3DS is on such a tiny process that, though you could obviously see the general and already well-documented layout of its SoC, you couldn't actually read anything out from that.
Curious, why do you believe this? What is your background? The fundraiser, neimod and others knew it was worthless and scammed people or maybe truly believed something useful was there to be found. Possibly they believed incorrectly so I wonder why you say this.
The physical process the chip and its transistors are built on is too small to analyze to any end.
