GBA: Driv3r
DS: Cop
3DS: Fire Rescue Squad Super Fun Party Mega Max Confetti Birthday Cake now with Dogzzzzz: Dalmatian edition, S Mart exclusive bonus box of matches included!

They only always focus on the graphics, they tend to not care how a game will play.

There fixed it.

Engine looks pretty good actually.
Resident Evil is the closest to that and they clearly trumped it here.
Now hopefully a good dev team can make a good game with it that isn't too generic or small.
Imagine it with the transformers license though.
Or in a good helicopter sim.
Me I'd want a racing game xD

I know that developers will do everything to advertise their product, but recalc physics is where I would have drawn the line. As far as buzzwords go, that is.
That also caught my attention, actually. The moment the tech demo mentioned support for "pre-calculated physics" I immediately thought - "Hey, you know what else has pre-calculated physics? Pong." - you can't really boast about something every other game in existence has, the developers are just throwing fancy words at the viewer hoping that they'll seem impressive.

Now, if the physics were calculated in real-time on the basis of the "four forces" (out of which they only mention two), that would be moderately interesting to see on such a "weak" platform.

Personally I choose to believe that they modelled the four fundamental forces and everything derives from there.

I like the rotating parts changing shape just before disappear from the screen or behind something else:
the center rotor at 0.36 before disappearing behind the pipes, at 1.02 in the upper right side of the screen and the center one again at 1.11.
I love how the light seem to illuminate only the bottom part of that control pannel he is jumping over.
I love the ghost opening and closing the door in the first floor just behind the weapon the weapon selection stripe.
But i think that mostly i like the zig zagging power lines in the second stage :P

It's all buzzwords, anyway. Some are just more ridiculous than others. I just thought that the mention of precalc as a feature was a bit too much, but then again, during the physics demonstration, they list "playable during gameplay", which is even more ridiculous if you think about it.

All in all, it's still a good demo. I just wish the art direction was, well, something else than what it is. Now I kind of wish it was something by Platinum Games. I'd love a pocket Vanquish!

Why are you guys arguing about the 3DS's power; you should be complaining about how this game looks uninspired and boring. I mean I wouldn't buy Superman 64 if it looked realistic.

This exactly. When Android became bigger ShadowGun rised pretty fast becouse of it's graphics but it's just really dull 3rd person shooter with really lousy voice acting (computer generated most likely), gun feel, story, enviroment - basically everything besides graphics were horrible. As they already have the engine they really should do something unique about it instead of making it yet another 3rd person shooter with just the graphics. Of course it would sell well as there aren't shooters on 3DS.

I don't think you understand the purpose of a tech demo. It's not supposed to be "inspired". The whole purpose is to show what the engine is capable of. It's not about the plot or gameplay. They won't even necessarily use the same character or weapons. They could have showed the Easter Bunny firing a potato gun and it still would have been accurate.

A tech demo is not the same thing as a trailer or preview.

Except in this case, it IS a game in development. This isn't like those Zelda tech demos, where they weren't making games with those engines. They're actually making this game with that engine. It just happens to double as a tech demo.

That doesn't matter. It isn't a representation of what the gameplay or story will be like. It's not doubling as anything. It's a safe bet that the textures will be similar to those in the video, but it doesn't tell us anything else about the game.

Graphics and art style aside, I'm glad someone is trying to make a technically impressive game for the 3DS.
There are way too many 2D titles on the eShop.

With a release date of Spring 2014, it's not difficult to hazard a guess that we will see a lot of the assets from this tech demo in the final product.

Releasing an official tech demo world-wide where the lector is Microsoft Sam, with a typo sitting on a typo and just a handful of fancy keywords is just an embarrasing thing to do.

The whole presentation would have a far better "feel" were the makers of it not gloating about how great it supposedly is.

This is simple lack of professionalism due to which the whole project suffers, unless we assume that:
  • They literally had noone who knew how to speak english handy and thus could not record a simple voice-over
  • They're perfecty capable of programming a graphics engine from the ground up in Assembly but don't know how to use a Spell Check tool
...and that's just worrying.

I wouldn't be surprised, but once again, calling a game unimaginative suggests that the story or gameplay is boring. We have seen neither of these. I might as well say "After watching that tech demo, I felt that the secret plot twist half way through the game was a bit disappointing."

I don't see how the plot could be relevant here - the whole debacle is about graphics which in this case are somewhat advanced with rich geometry considering the weak platform the engine is running on and very smooth, running at 60FPS, however end up looking ass because you can see a clear lack of an art direction and because you could kill someone with blocky textures like this (see: very first shot), proving once more that you can shove as much geometry into a model as you want and it'll still look blocky if the texture is terrible. We're not discussing the plot. :tpi:
