I really hope that when the 3DS gets a homebrew scene, it will be just as big as with it was with the Nintendo DS!
That is some serious hope. We already saw much of the DS homebrew scene evaporate when the iphone was still fumbling its way to usefulness and it was all but dormant by the time android took over.

When then the DS was fully opened up, homebrew was so popular because of all the new features the system introduced, which at the time, where pretty impressive. So yeah, i think you're right. What i do think is, is that it won't be so quiet like the DS right now, let's face the fact; it's only a matter of time before 3DS homebrew get's possible (from what i read), and the DS is now in it's twilight years, so when 3DS homebrew gets available, you can assume that the DS will be pretty much dead (which it probaly is by now, except for the new lolSnes emulator).
Yeah, a lot of people just don't understand the concept that homebrew on game systems was partially so big because there weren't many alternatives. But now there's mobile systems that you can code for and share your work with, and even profit off it, without having to hack them or play a cat and mouse game, and other people already developed the loaders and libraries, etc.
To be fair there was paid/shareware homebrew as far back as the GBA -- the rather nice bookreader was shareware/paid registration ( http://web.archive.org/web/20130719123449/http://www.mqp.com/fun/gb_reg.htm ) and technically the meteo codec was paid (though most people only ever saw the translated version), some of the libraries had homebrew/open source and paid commercial options (some of the audio stuff even being seen in a few commercial games -- http://knzl.de/krawall/ ) and there is the "emulator author gone paid dev" route. Obviously I am not about to try disputing anything you said though.

It went a couple of years ago it seems, it stuck around for quite a while but I was either cleaning out my bookmarks or was looking for an example when someone wanted a GBA bookreader and saw it was gone. Looking at it now though it might just be a DNS issue as the site looked like it was some form of shared host.

Sorry, first link should have "www." as well. Fixed now. There's not a whole lot on darkfader's site in general tbh.
On a side note, darkfader was also the first to create and release a bricker for the DS (disguised as a ROM loader and released privately on IRC, then shared publicly by someone else I think).

Yeah, his page has a file called "ppflash.zip" which contains details and software for flashing a DS using the parallel port of a computer (and some soldering), for recovering in case of bricks.
