Interesting, I hadn't known that! That's news to me! Aw well! I can see why other's would keep their WiFi switch on then.

Eh, if you have your WiFi switch off, it won't work like that.

As stated, if they have their switch off, they can't unless they put it in-cart with game releases.

yes but i was saying those with the switch on it will download the update thought the WiFi
also will do so if it connects to a Nintendo Zone

the only way indeed to update if you have you switch off is gamecards

You know, instead of buying so many 3DS consoles you could have put the money toward games so that you didn't have to pirate them. :tpi:

looks over at over 30 games boxes some of which are tripples and doubles

you where saying?

Oh, interesting! I've always thought you'd have to accept the update. I didn't know stealth updates were legal. Good think I keep my Wifi off then, eh? c;

I think we can all learn from the PS3 scene and make the choice between "WiFi on, and updating" vs "using the flashcart and no internet"

...It's a wireless switch which makes it so no wireless interactions happen on the 3DS. Whether it be spotpass, streetpass, internet functionality, etc.

I can see how you confused it with a "Wifi switch" though.

WiFi switch

Well, would be better to call it the wireless switch, so people don't get confused and ask "why do i need internet to use local play". If you want to maintain local play w/ a Gateway, it's best to delete all internet connection settings and disable Spotpass (so it won't automatically connect to open networks).

Before someone says "Wi-Fi stands for wireless", it doesn't -- it stands for nothing, actually.

Edit: Devin y u do dis

Makes sense!

They grabbed the feature from the PSP, and the PSP had ad-hoc, which you could use even with the WiFi switch turned off, so I just assumed :P

doesnt stealth install
but it will constantly remind you to press A as often as it can because it downloads the update ready

Not to be a pain in the ass but, actually Wi-Fi stands for Wireless Fidelity.

This^

The only approach they CAN (not will, but can, as in , "are able to") take is performing updates which block/patch exploits and carts and whatnot.

They can place security measures on the newer games, sure, but even so, GateWay holds Kernel access, so, the more the team learns about the hardware of the 3DS, the more they can edit their "Gateway firmware" to bypass the security measures hosted by Nintender.

GateWay has Kernel access, meaning, once they find their way around the console, they can pretty much bypass anything.

Information that is stored on the 3DS, such as carts played/used etc. can be sent to Ninty when we connect to their servers (strictly speculation).
Gateway is able to bypass security features and whatnot, but lets say a certain Mario Kart rom (or maybe certain chip ids for carts/gw3ds) has a certain unique rom id,
and many users using that 1 same id is registered to be logged on, they can simply "ban" the 3DS.

I mean, Super DSTWO "game-spoof" is Alex rider Stormbreak.
never even heard of that game. Is it a popular game?

I'm just saying its entirely possible that big N has a way to identify flashcart users.
But their concern isn't to disable users, but to ensure users buy games.
And banning or bricking the 3DS won't solve that.

So their solution is patching.
Why? Because if they brick your device, you won't be able to buy any more games on it.
If they patch your device and block flashcarts, you have 3 choices:
1. sell of a patched device (which people may not purchase
2. buy games like you're supposed to.
3. use it as a paperweight.

(Summary: I'm saying they can, but they won't as of now. When hacks are developed, they might.)

Yep! Speculation. That's why anyone who has a hacked system (Yes, Gateway temporarily modifies the firmware) should leave their WiFi off. Check out the PS3 board.

Not if you're internet connections are deleted and you've switched off the WiFi switch :)

But as stated, all of this can be avoided by disabling your WiFi switch.

Yup, that's why my WiFi switch is Always off!

But I'm sure users want to go online! ;D

Open could always open up their 3DS and remove or disconnect wireless chip, if you want to be absolutely certain it will never connect to anything.
