Yes yes, I can read... and they stated that there were "many alternative options" in their first post, which suggested the need to look for a different DS-mode product as they said "many"...
I think when they made their first FAQ, they hoped that they will manage to include this "fixing" inside 3DS card. Probably later they fond that easier and cheaper will be just add additional DS card.

Encouraging people to update? Bad idea... Also, I thought animal crossing was already released.

If you can, stay at 4.5 or less because there is no guarantee the Gateway will work on newer firmware. They are trying to create a fix right now. This should be obvious.

If playing online is a must for you, then just wait to see if the Gateway will catch up, but keep in mind it may not.
Who is encouraging to update? Are you understanding what was written?
First, Maxkhoon, who was asking, is on 5.0 means your advice to stay on 4.5 is....
Second, Animal Crossing was released, but no any update to it. It means that he don't need to update firmware to newest, to download update of game, because there is no update.

well considering I already have a DS with flashcart, the blue card is pretty useless but eh if it works as well as an R4 back in the day then I can finally get rid of my ds lite without feeling bad. :(

It sounded exactly like you were encouraging to update 3DS firmware. I do understand. Telling people it is okay to update to 6.1 for animal crossing is very misleading.

I was saying in general, I guess I missed that you were replying to Maxkhoon. Not needing to update was said nowhere in your original post...

I hope soon we will see a "light" version of gateway without a blue card. Probably any ds card can run their gateway install.

Like the legend of zelda, or KH 3D?
Animal crossing new leaf, Mario & Luigi dream team, Luigi's mansion dark moon, Fire emblem awakening, project x zone, kokuga, donkey kong country return, resident evil revelations, Monster Hunter 3 ultimate, castlevania Lords of shadow mirror of fate, virtue's last reward, just to mention some of it.

Sorry, I hate most things that have to do with Mario and his family :/
But some of them sound great ^^
I'll certainly look into it when I have one...

I still don't know whether I should try and stay on 5.1 or update to 6.x... I have a AC: New Leaf download code laying around, and I want to play it ):

You still not understand what was written.
Btw. for Animal Crossing nothing will change if you update to 6.1 now.
This means he don't need to update, because update will change nothing in game.
If you are replying to replies to somebody else posts read previous post first to understand this reply.
He wanted to have Animal Crossing up to date, but he couldn't check if it is (Animal Crossing has a button in menu for checking for updates), because to do that, he must be on latest firmware. I assured him that there was no update - he don't need to update.
If somebody is writing to somebody else (not you) and you are not understanding about what is this post, simply do not reply, please.

I am aware that I am over the required firmware version. But are the chances higher for it to work on 5.x than any other firmware? That's what I'm wondering.

There are 2 different things.
First, many games need min. specific version of firmware (for most of present games it is max. 4.5, only exception is Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros which needs 5.1) to run. If you have lower version, you will be asked to update before fist run.
Second, it is update of the game. Few games using that. Without latest update you are not able to play online. One is Mario Kart. Another will be Animal Crossing, but no update released yet. This update must be downloaded. To do that, you must be on the newest firmware. Always.
Btw. for Animal Crossing nothing will change if you update to 6.1 now. After update, when you will click this update button, you will receive msg that you have latest available version of game.
thanks zabikt, completely understand now, what I need is patient I guess.
since all I ever played is AC and how sweet it is not supported by gateway, best purchase ever even 3ds flashcard is exist =)

Personally I would stay on 5.x ...but it may a long wait until a fix is found.
If Gateway do ever find a fix ...it will be for 5.x ....6.x maybe?? ....but 6.1 plus, it's not likely.
Sell the AC code on eBay, and buy a physical copy ...if it's an option?? that way you don't need to update.

If you stay on 5.x and the fix comes for just 6.x and not 5.x... then you can just use a game to update for 6.x

So like I keep telling everybody, STOP FUCKING UPDATING YOUR GODDAMN 3DS UNITS YOU DUMBASSES

EDIT: That typo wasn't intended!

We wont know until more information on how it works is released or discovered but most likely, but you shouldn't assume that they'll definitely be getting it working on any other firmwares.

I think the best rule to stand by is if firmware version or game compatability (future titles included) is a major deciding factor for just about any flashcard or similar device tool, its more often than not just better to watch from the sides for a while, better to regret waiting than to regret buying.

i Like the fact what the Gateway is, is a Alternative DS Mode Firmware that allows access to the 3DS Hardware, like the Linux for vWii that allows for the WiiU Hardware
but if you use the Normal DS Firmware you have to reinstall the "Gateway 3DS DS Mode" firmware
interesting stuff
need to play with one

So it's basically a useful version of this?
