I purchased the X360USB V2, as well as a LITE-ON DG-16D4S HW 9504 DVD drive, and a control board for it (all from different sources).

I have no idea what I have to do, though. From my understanding, though, I have to rip the keys from the control board I got, flash them to the DVD drive, and then rip the games.

Right?

USB pro V2 don't need a 0800 firmware ;]

Just confirm you got the drive working in Jugleflasher (that JF sees it) and download the latest XBC (Xbox Backup Creator)

Since drives are married to the control board, do I need to be concerned about using a new PCB with a new drive, the two of which were from different sources?

Would it be beneficial for me to post a guide on how to get all of this stuff up and running, from picking the components out to getting all of the software to work with Windows 8? It can be a real bitch and I can't find any other decent guides out there.

If there is one, though, let me know as there are other things I can be doing instead.

You could do it if you want to ;]

Keep it simple tho, advice people to get a X360 USB Pro V2 instead of using their own SATA chips (it's easier to explain that way)

Afaik, there's only some outdated ones.

So I got all the parts together I thought I needed, soldered everything together and got the software running, and... now I'm at yet another dead end. Documentation on this stuff sucks so goddamn much and nobody who knows anything is helpful in any way (I guess they get sick of retarded questions after a while and become super jaded).

So I'm using a DG-164DS with apparently 0401 firmware now I've soldered a new control board onto it. I'm able to get all the drive keys and whatnot with JungleFlasher and create a dummy.bin file.

When I go to use XBC, however, I find that the X360USB V2 has not, in fact, automatically assigned the drive a drive letter in Windows as expected, and cannot be detected.

Do I need to buy an unlocked PCB (yet more fucking money and time down the drain as the one I have is locked, apparently) and flash LT+ 3.0 firmware to it for this to actually work, or am I missing a step somewhere?

The USBPro V2 should work even on a stock firmware.
Latest version of XBC should have that.

Do a reboot with the USBPro v2 attached and your drive attachted and powered.

LT 3.0 is only for playing backups on Live, the 0800 firmware is for DVD ripping.

Did that, with driver signature enforcement disabled. Still no dice. Some screenshots of what I'm seeing:

I'm going to try updating the firmware again, but man is this frustrating.

Could you walk me through how everything happens when it gets mounted in Windows?

Done this correctly?

Did that, no issues. Not sure JF would have read the drive otherwise...

If so then do this

That guide is for the original X360USB and requires the 0800 firmware installed... neither of which I have... I thought this new one didn't need that, though?

They've also closed down registration on their forums so I can't post the question there, either.

Just substitute the original X360USB with yours and forget about the 0800 ;p
I don't own a V2 so I wouldn't know the steps meself.
But it's just trial and error, since it does work

Well, turns out my X360USB V2 is fried. Can't switch it back into flashing mode, it's permanently in mode B, etc.

God fucking damnit.

That's... odd...
I remember Kristianity also having a similar problem.
I'd return it to the shop where you bought it from and ask for a new one.

Mmmm well that's just my luck.

It explains some of the issues I was having though, I suppose.
