Hello! There's no real good "tricks" or 'cheats' to this game, and I'm not one to play games legit ever. I was wondering if it'd be possible to use the Save Dongle to cheat?

I think it could go like this:
1) Copy your save to your PC using the Save Dongle
2) Send all your most expensive belongings and bells to someone else you trust
3) Load the save data from your PC to your DS
4) Have friend send your stuff back to you

I think this could work. Once I get another payday and a trustworthy person, I'll report back. :D

Nope. Doesn't work that way.

To clarify, every time you load a save game, it is marked with a certain save ID. The game recognizes this ID, and will not load a save with a different ID.

For example, if you saved a game with the ID "A" to your computer, then started the game again, the ID would then be marked differently, we'll say "B". It is then not possible to load the "A" save again.

Work what way? The save data isn't stored on the Cartridge, or is it tracked somehow?

Edit: Oh you added onto your post!

Is that save ID saved by the 3DS or the Cartridge, though? I didn't know it would store anything outside of the game's cartridge.

look at this
http://gbatemp.net/threads/question-about-id-checks-with-3ds-and-new-leaf-save-files.349216/

the game has some kinda of protection that check to see if the save data has be change to keep you for cheating by going back to an older save and revert changes you did

Damn! So AC stores its data on the 3DS Internal Memory and the SD Card, and that's how it does these checks?

What if you load the game, go to a friend's town and dump the items then force a shut-down without saving? Resetti be damned.

Also the save adapters for 3DS games don't work with new games anyways. They stopped working on any game that needs FW2.0 or above IIRC.

How new does the game need to be? I backed up my Fire Emblem Awakening save using a NDS Adaptor Plus, deleted all data, restored it, and it worked... and the game is fairly new.

Hunh, so it is. I guess what I was reading was about decrypting or something? Or using other people's saves.

AFAIK saves can't be decrypted or encrypted, but that doesn't mean a save dongle can't copy and restore saves... Perhaps the ID thingy is only used on New Leaf.

Sry to go a little bit off-topic here.... but do you happen to know, if it would be possible to back up and reinsert the save of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity? bought the game some time ago together with my sister.... didn't know, you could only have 1 save file... so I decided to be nice, let her finish the game first and then play it myself... that was on release day in Germany... I believe on May 17th ? Whatever, I'm sick of waiting and I would like to know, if it would be possible, to back up her save, then erase it on the cartridge, start my game, play a little and then if she wants to play, backup my safe and insert hers and vice versa... And if that's not possible with this save dongle, maybe there is another solution? would be nice to know :-)

I have backed up saves for several 3DS games (actually... just three), but have only tried to restore it on Fire Emblem Awakening, too scared to try on the other games and mess/delete something. I think it *SHOULD* work provided you use the latest NDS Adaptor Plus firmware update and program, but don't take my word for it. :P
If it works with regular DS carts (I bought it for Pokémon anyway) and worked for one 3DS game, I don't think there should be any problems with a game that's not AC New Leaf...

Who here actually has a save dongle and Animal Crossing? Once we narrow down a method of saving and restoring data, and decrypting the save, we should get aibohack.com's aibopet on the job figuring out what we can edit :) He made the save editors for the previous animal crossing games, and he would have the most experience. I'm sure we could give him some incentive by sending him a dongle and a copy of new leaf, if he doesn't have it already :)

I tried this morning with the r4 save dongle: The official backup software (1.5) does recognise the cart, but the backup is filled with zeros. 005tool v0.1b doesn't recognise the cart :(

If what frogboy says is true, even if it works, it might not do me any good, and I would just lose my town :P

Fire Emblem: Awakening works though, so I'm ok with my purchase (got it for 50rmb, equivalent of 8 bucks). Haven't tried with Soul Hackers yet (that's the only 2 newish games I have)

Heard that just reading from the cart corrupted Paper Mario's save, so yeah, these things have a risk attached. Not sure what will happen with the new flashcart.

I owned Sticker Star and my save did not get corrupted when reading it. I even saved a backup and opened just now with HxD and it's got data: http://i.imgur.com/CHimgJV.png
I know though that Final Fantasy Theatrhythm (the other one of the three) lately sometimes didn't recognize the cart in the 3DS after making a save backup. Nothing that can't be fixed by removing and inserting the cart again, though. :P

As soon as I get AC: New Leaf (I'm European...) I'll try it with my NDS Adaptor Plus.

EDIT: Also, AFAIK, all 3DS saves are encrypted so good luck making a save tool for AC:NL. :P

So now we have to get our 3DS private key in order to decrypt our files, huh?...

Well that's beyond me! ahaha, guess I'll have to get bells and such the old fashioned way :P

Tried to get my save of AC: New Leaf. The program froze (NDS Adaptor v3.03) as soon as I started it with the cart plugged. Tried several times, no dice. Unplug the cart, it works. Inserting the dongle + cart with the program on caused the program to freeze.

The cart is unharmed.

My guess: AC New Leaf uses a completely different save chip/method that save dongles can't recognize.

There is one product named "Cyber 3ds Save Editor" incl. backup/cheat. but only for JPN titles now (due to the keys they hold)
They seems to know how to decrypt the saves, with one common key. however all things are stored on remote so no custom tools.

Plusi, have you tried with the newest backup tool and firmware (3.05) ?

Syphurith, games had a common key until save v2.2.

Newest NDS Adaptor doesn't work.... and never will.

The NDS Adaptor team replied that the new structure would require a hardware upgrade to the Dongle.
