Hacking Hombrew never happening?

Since Marcan is not really enthused into Wii U homebrew, does that mean we will never get any homebrew stuff for wii u mode? No chance of Gecko OS or any related stuff? I hope this is not the end of it...

Of course it does not mean that. What it means is that marcan (along with 30 other people) is not interested in working any more on the WiiU (at this point in time, at the very least).

I wonder if it was one of the thirty one that setup wiiubrew and what the point in that site is other than being empty.... well it does have advertisments and flattr but other than that it's an "inb4" site. Which is a shame.

Homebrew will come one day, maybe. I wonder what the story will read back like.

There are not many that can bring this about and those not involved in the "31" would have no doubt given up once they saw the might of TT behind a push to crack it. These guys are good, so why compete to lose and waste time doing something someone has already done and will probably release. Except the release is slow in coming, if at all from the team.

So if there are others who could do the work, will they bother knowing someone already has, wont help them and might release before them to steal their thunder ?

I have faith Fof have indeed cracked the WiiU.... somewhat. I just fail to see the logic of having the wiiubrew site unless it's to generate some revenue, but surely it can't be that?

The released hashes.... some say this is trolling, but I myself have defended Fof because surely they would not stooped to that level. Surely it must be for their "fans" to get excited.... they wouldn't tease, make a website and then be happy with the time they spent.

Anyway, patience is the key here. I'm sure someone with enough talent and willingness to release something for the WiiU will come along someday and be idolized.

Inevitably, someone will, he doesn't govern all those who wish to add homebrew; it's bound to happen. I bet people thought the same way when the Wii was launched, but as it turned out, it was the easiest to hack of the last gen consoles and has a lot of programs that work well (notably, emulators). As much as I'd love to see a port of PCSX-Next, NullDC and Desmume on the Wii U, we'll likely have to wait a while before someone finds a fully functioning exploit.

I read a comment to my son from a post, it said something like.... the WiiKeyU team are trolling and waiting for TT/Fof to release something so they can then make their "chip". I'm sure many read it. My son laughed and said maybe they are waiting on their WiiKeyU.... Made me smile

On the topic of the WiiKeyU.... I've noticed that fooking Nintendo have repeated the same mistakes that spoils things for many families. My usual (not enough save profiles per game, we need savegamethingymajigy again) ... BUT ... some WiiU drives are already failing... it could yet again prove to be the weakest link in the console.

When a way of loading from HDD arrives consider the costs involved. Does anyone even know where to start getting and swapping the drives themselves, or would they rather if that happens ship the console off to Nintendo for how long ?

No solder WiiKeyU + cheap HDD = long life of your console (you could use this long life to wait on other things either way)

No, obviously he's not there are 30 more in that team.... BUT other teams saw them doing it, and imho they slowed or stopped.

The WiiU scene needs to just put this down to experience, move on. Any of you reading this that only have a WiiU and regularly go to wiiubrew need to spend that time more wisely.

- TT/FOF open a few websites
- TT/FOF start hacking Wii
- They give a few updates
- They give a few more updates
- They post picture or whatever....
- They say they most likely wont release anything because it doesn't interest them enough

- WiiKeyU is announced
- A tester from that team drops some hints
- People from that team give some updated information
- Hey....they posted a picture too

In the future...

- WiiKeyU is released
- Someone releases a way of running homebrew

- WiiU sales are what they will be including games except for a tiny percentage of "nerds" or "pirates" that are either too busy playing with there code or downloading every Bob The Builder game and Peppa The Pig.


I will apologize to the nerds and pirates for generalizing.
- Pirates I understand, it's an addiction... but if you can't help yourself you need help elsewhere
I understand not everyone has the "gotta catch them all" addiciton and some "pirates" only ever DL 1 thing, then pay for it afterwards ... etc etc etc.
- Nerds, making forwards and banners or a custom karaoke game are COOL even if OCD and sleep deprived at times. I know that not all coders are OCD and many have plenty of time to do other things, I just find a lot of people get hooked on doing some of these things.

i remember when the GC was hacked, it didn't lead immediately to homebrew, actually we waited quite a few years for interesting apps to appear, mostly the time it took to devs to create devkitppc and libogc... yeah, previous libraries weren't really of any use beside a few demos and gc-linux never really took of.

most people here came with wii homebrew,so they might be surprised they don't have wii-u homebrew yet, but it was (relatively) a nutshell to get libogc apps running on Wii in wii mode: you got marcan and his fellows working a lot to get access to wii specific hardware but the truth is that there was already a solid base and most of the work to get something running was already there

i hope this will make people understand how much devkitpro and libogc are important, and how much useless are any hacks if you can't easily run code at the end, no matter how much marcan said libogc was crap or based on stolen sdk, it was doing the job pretty well, maybe they realize now that the task to get something similar on Wii U is too much for him to handle, hence the lack of "motivation"

My wii u is just eating dust from doing nothing, some homebrew would be fun to get more out of it.
But only time will tell where this will be going to, sooo let's just be patient.

I'm just tired of all the two-faced selfish kids on this site, who'll lick the boots of anyone who provides them with an ISO loader, but the second a dev turns around and says that there's a chance they might not be completely open with their hard work, they're suddenly the devil and 'a douche'. So I guess you are one that has never had a conversation with him on irc before or had help from him with code?

There are a few devs that get these insults another example is tueidj (sorry, but on this site you are alpha & omega on this).

Some people don't like what these people do with their OWN time and sometimes release for FREE to others that did nothing for it and will do nothing in return.

If you ever had the chance to ask them for code tips you would not only have got help, but most likely a better solution than you could have thought of.

Now I myself might not agree with some things they say or do, but I am not them and tbh I've not really given them anything, what have you gave them ?

No, Marcan released a way in from the vWii side. What people do with it is up to them. He said he would help also. Good read actually. IF anything, since Marcan wanted to avoid piracy, piracy is there already and people charging for it. WiikeyU happened, about to, but has happened on a lot of recent systems. IF anything, he gives what he wanted to prevent so if somebody happens to "Get HBC in Wii U mode, FULL Wii U mode" then it may not be a huge deal. GIVEN piracy is already here. This is where my thought is.

Outright piracy is not what Marcan wants (said so himself), and given the amount of effort to get vWii up fully without access to Wii U stuff (sensitive stuff), EASY access anyway, this MAY be good for homebrew. I am an idiot with stuff like this, but have a very vivid imagination.
