Well, a friend of mine has a desktop with an Ivy i5 and no GPU. Would giving him my old 4650 boost or lower performance at 1080p in games?

Intel HD 4000 will come out ahead slightly. The problem with that dGPU is 512 MB of VRAM. Not to mentioned it is either GDDR2 or GDDR3. DDR3 used by iGPU is faster than either two.

Although if AMD does release HD7730 this would've been a better choice (suggested retail price is $50).

It's sort of a tossup. The HD 4000 is integrated graphics, but it's at least new, while the 4650's an older mid-range card. Even based on benchmarks it seems to vary. It's worth a shot at least.

Wow. Those were literally the exact words I used when debating myself about it.
