U know what's strange ? when i bought mu 3ds, a yer ago, nintendo was releasing a lot of firmware patches, after neimod and yellow came up with this hack, just one was released.
It could be that 3ds firmware is getting better and don't need so many fixes, but this made me think.
I think the updates were out there to get rid of all the R4 units out there. Sure, a couple survived but 90%+ of the cards out there got abandoned. I remember only a year ago every flashcard help post was for the Acekard 2i and now look where it is. The only ones left are DSTwo and the R4i and its various clones. They're just waiting for the hack to be released to patch it. Unlike the flash carts, they do not have a way to obtain one and figure out what is being done because those two are the only ones with the files.

A good situation would be if nintendo stockpiles a ton of new features to entice the user to update(doubt it. they will prolly just block the eshop like always) AND Neimod and yellows8 stockpile enough usable exploits to release there own patch to circumvent within a few days after the update. lets face it, we do want Miiverse. :)

In that case they should release more localized games from japan. Instead of that, the market is submerged with stupid titles like my poney 3ds and sell that shit at 70$ on amazon. But since we can't get really interresting titles our only hope is a region lock hack.

Every home console Nintendo has released since the original Nintendo Entertainment System has been region-locked

however in portable consoles, nintendo had a very different history. the game boy, gameboy color, gameboy advance, and all ds models prior to the dsi were NOT region locked.

also, on the home console front, their competition has been getting much less strict on region lock, with sony's ps3 being completely region free (on games) while ms's xbox360 leaves region locking up to the developer. (and a large amount of games are region free on the platform.).

between having a history of region free and their competition moving towards region free, a return to that policy isn't completely irrational fantasy.

but there's a thin line between protect your products/sales stratiges and force enduser do act as your puppet. I don't like how nintendo is treating the 3DS users with things like eshop lock if you don't update.
One thing that they never realise is that most of the people who plays roms will never had bought the handheld if it wasn't hacked. They sell millions of copies to gamers who already have the handheld.
They don't need the eshop locked to forcefully update their FW, they will do it because of the multiplayer features.
Nintendo has became as lame as apple in that matter, all paranoid and yet trying to control the users.
I just hope that they doesn't force us to use a shitty program like itunes to screw our pcs even more.

I think the reason they released news, about it is to get our hopes up and then crush them. and in that defence this is why, you don't dangle the keys to the kingdom in someones face, and then refuse to deliver. Unless you just want to keep it all to yourself, which i believe is whats going on here. Due to them having no plans on releasing this to the public, its basically a way of saying "we did the work not any of you, why should we share our hard work with you?" In the end, we are going to be in the dark for a long long time.

Lol, you do realize that the hack is NOT going to be usable for the majority of the people who want it (and I mean a VERY large majority). Too little is known to get anything at all that is usable for the end user. I bet a few people on this forum would be able to do anything with the exploit. Right now plenty of documentation is being done, especially 3D Brew. Yellows8 hasn't been all that greedy at all when it comes to documentation.

yellows might however the man who has full control over the kernel of the 3ds said himself there is no plans on sharing this with anyone, in the end its basically a waiting game. we might get it, we might not. and even if we do, like you said it is not going to be usable for the majority of the people who wanted it.

I'm sure there's a lot of teams working on it, so be sure that one day or another a hack will be released. There's still a few poeple on this planet who think about the whole community and not only about themselves.

They had to do a lot of work to crack the system and get a single exploit. They are documenting all they find to the 3dbrew page. They are thinking about the HOMEBREW community. What they found though, would enable piracy so they aren't sharing it (not to mention they only have the one exploit Nintendo could easily patch like sodukuhax)

I think the Chinese factories have given up on making a 3DS flash cart and are moving on to just making bootleg games if the Ace 3DS Pro is any indication. They aren't going to do the hacking work if they can just sell a $.10 knockoff cartridge to someone at a swap meet or on the street corner at full price. That's what piracy is all about. Flash carts and ROM loaders are collateral damage.

Sadly, I have to agree. Even a lot of the people who say they only want to hack for homebrew and mods still use the homebrew and mods to play retail games and access outside services. They install emulators to load up retail games for older systems, they use homebrew to access existing services (twitter, IRC, youtube), they use mods to stop retail games from doing things they don't want (priiloader stopping updates), etc.

[PS]The new avatar of yours looks good. Is it your painting?
I agree with you. Homebrew is a good thing, especially for the developers.
It can also be good enough to users, as what moonshell did.
But mostly there is some DARK reason for the players.
I highly doubt how many people would try to play backups just because their original card is about to crunch, or for the safety of their cards away their parents.
Well it is it, but there maybe too much reason to explain then. Let's skip this.
HACKERS do not work for money. But they maybe work for pride.
Thus if there is not enough guys waiting for them, they may leave the scene.
Forgive me for what i thought..
Hope them do well.
