You know I loved GTA, up until GTA4 where it wasn't as much fun for me and to be honest from what I've seen of GTA5, I'll probably skip it. For people like me there is the Saints Row series which is a GTA clone but with all the stupid shit I love to do in GTA games turned up to 11.

Today developer Violtion and it's new publisher Deep Silver have released this teaser trailer...and it's not a bullshit teaser trailer, it shows a lot of gameplay!

^ That there? That looks fun! This time around rather than do the same game but larger and crazier, it looks like the emphasis is on superhero powers...I'm up for that! Blah blah Crackdown etc.

The game is out in August.

not for the wii u... amazing...

It totally screams "family friendly". Although wasn't there supposed to be like.. Saints Row: Drive-By for the 3DS many moons ago? But I digress.

I enjoyed Saints Row 3 although I feel it had room for improvement on the gameplay side of things. It did a good job with its humor and elevating the series to its true balls-to-the-wall outrageousness but the gameplay was basically Saints Row 2 with some minor improvements.

Considering that Nintendo is trying to be more well rounded, that Deep Silver planning to work on
the Wii u, and it's not on ps4, I don't think "family friendly" is the issue.

I think it's the fact that it is new hardware.

Nothing to do with "family friendliness". It's just that the Wii U is currently selling like shit so there's no motivation to port their engine over.

I've yet to play Saints Row 3 but guess I might as well check out now.

Definitely. The Third game just committed to being as goofy and outrageous as possible - it took the exact opposite direction of GTA IV. It created a campaign full of fun, funny, and most of all, memorable moments.

To give an example - one of the missions involves you in a wrestling match with a Luchadore mobster and his minions. You fight off his henchman with a chainsaw while Hulk Hogan cheers you on and "You're the Best Around!" plays in the background.

Anyway, holy shit. GTA V, Rayman Legends, and Saints Row IV, all within a month? My wallet is not ready - but my body sure is.

What I loved about the series was that the missions were actually fun, one of my massive gripes about GTA was that the missions were mostly "bleh" and I could never be bothered with finishing the game properly because they were pretty tedious. Also I quite liked the variety too in the missions of Saints Row and the combat was far far superior.

Something else I'm intrigued about is how we can customise our characters like we could before (another huge plus) and if we could maybe tailor our folk so that they have specific powers. I'd totally play this as Daredevil.

Anyway it's confirmed that it's not coming for Wii U...it's only coming to "current gen platforms" and they consider Wii U as next gen...kinda nice that someone does I guess but still a bit of a cop out excuse, a simple "because it probably wouldn't sell because hardly anyone has one and Nintendo's own games would be chosen instead of ours".

Deep Silver revealed Saints Row IV to the world this morning, showing off a trailer for the game and providing an August release date. In the press release, the company said the game was coming out on current-generation consoles. We've gotten a bit of clarification on that item.

We asked Deep Silver if the Wii U counted as a current-gen console in their eyes, and got a solid "nope" in response. Nintendo fans can either take that as a compliment – they're in the next hardware generation already – or a slight. Regardless, they're going to have to sit this one out – at least for the foreseeable future.

Because games such as this one, wouldn't change that? If they said it was coming to the Wii u I expect that would push some units just on that. Idk, seem the situation is so contradicting.

Third-parties aren't obligated to fix the Wii U's situation, they're there to make a profit and I doubt a Wii U release at this point in time would recoup the cost of porting it over. It's up to Nintendo to release games that will make the system sell more.

Really stepping up the insanity. I'm sure this game is gonna be great, but I get the feeling I'm going to enjoy GTAV a little bit more. I think with both coming out this year though, it will be a great year for sandbox games.

That's not his point I don't think, I think he's saying that they should have faith in a title like this shifting consoles alone. If they had bigger balls they would release it for the Wii U and if they did indeed significantly boost sales for the Wii U, they could ultimately get offered some very nice contracts by Nintendo to make some exclusives and make a buttload of extra money. Developers shouldn't be scared of the Wii U's lackluster sales, they should take it on as a challenge, if one were to succeed with such a challenge, they could make significant extra money.

This. Gameplay wasn't on par with the rest of the game. Mechanics felt kind of off, driving cars, pushing people, ....
That's what needs work, otherwise, good game and I like that they are able to put one out every 2 years or so.

It's not really that simple. Some companies like Ubisoft have had Wii U kits for a long time, others like Deep Silver...haven't. This is why Ubisoft are releasing their major titles for it and others aren't. Ubisoft have had a great relationship with Nintendo and therefore Nintendo have been more favourable to them and have trusted them more. Maybe this is a issue with Nintendo, but trust is a big issue in the games industry.

It's not just sales, it's also a matter of how easy it is to port a game over, I don't know if people remember but the PS3 had issues like this before and when it did get games the 360 had, they were kinda bad ports...you know like how the Wii U has bad ports now. People seem to think it's nothing to port a 360 title over to the Wii U just because the Wii U is more powerful...power has shit all to do with anything at this stage, it's EXPERIENCE with the hardware that is the issue.

This is what they've got to say about why Dead Island Riptide isn't coming to Wii U:

The things that are required to bring something to a new platform, you need to either really get to be integrating it deep into the engine, or you've got to [do] a port.

Neither one of those was a satisfactory outcome for us, so we decided to do what we got platform-wise and just make sure that we can deliver the best experience we can.

This is how things are for new consoles and it's why the first year is kinda shakey for getting the big multi-platform releases. Developers need to get used to the console first of all, they need to know what tricks they can do, how to implement things and how to take advantage of certain features. Nintendo usually makes the most beautiful early gen software because they've MADE the fucking hardware! Shit, look at the N64 and how the 3rd party stuff looks like crap compared to what Nintendo and it's devs could do! Look at any early gen releases, the first party software is amazing, the 3rd parties that are close to those are better while the rest kinda look bad in comparison.

This looks like it will be a lot of fun when it comes out. However, it also looks like it is running on the same engine that SR3 ran on. If it is running on the same engine, would you have liked a new engine for Saints Row IV?
