So you think the industry is playing it too safe, eh? Not taking any chances? Well, here's the chance to put your money where your mouth is. You have a great idea for a Video Game? Let me hear about it. I might pick your idea to win the very last in the wild GBAtemp Edition DStwo. That's right. Your very last chance. So I better hear some damn good ideas. Get it? Got it? Good. Be sure to read the rules. They are very important this time around.
Rules
1. All contest entries must be submitted by Monday, March 4th, 11:59PM PST.
2. All idea must be original. Be sure to research your idea before you submit it. If it's been done, I'll just skip it over entirely.
3. Any Video Game ideas must not use any pre-existing IP. (Gears Of War, Mickey, Naruto, Mario, pretty much anything that has been established as a trademark or registered trademark)
4. One entry per person, one entry per IP.
5. As always, whining will not make me change my mind of who wins. Once I announce a winner, consider it set in stone.
6. I will be judging these entries based on my definitions of Originality, Fun, Feasibility, and Creativity.
7. Visual Aid is always welcome. Feel free to include images in your idea.

Thank you all again for being so patient. I feel like I have an obligation to update you on the situation of the contest.

Before I explain further I just want to make a few things clear.

1. The contest WILL be judged.
2. There will be a further delay of the contest results
3. I take partial responsibility for this taking so long

That being said, the family problems I have been dealing with is, a few members of my family have come down ill with the flu. I have been taking care of them for the most part, and I haven't been able to do much with the contest. My body has been fighting this flu for about a week now, and I have finally fallen ill with it as well. I have asked the other staff members to help me judge this contest, because as of now, I don't have the focus or the energy I need to fairly judge this contest. If I were to do so, it wouldn't be fair to those who entered, especially with the quality of submissions this time around. So, I think it should be said that I do admit partial fault in the time it's taken thus far. I should have asked for help earlier when I felt myself fighting off this flu in the first place.

I hope you'll have the patience to stick it out a little more, and thank you again for your patience up to this point.

Results!

1st place winner: Gahars with his 80s slasher game idea. I would buy the shit out of this game. I haven't seen a big budget game take on this point of view. I would love to lurk around as a freddie-alike and do my thing. Send me a PM with your address so you can collect your prize!

Runners up:

Zantigo with his SHIFT idea. I have to be really honest, I had a hard time deciding between yours and Gahar's. Love the story, love the gameplay ideas. I also love the idea of using "frames" for actions. Sort of like AP in the Fallout games, but way more fleshed out.

strayofthesun with his game about a wold without emotions. I can imagine this taking on a very emotional tones, striking chords in people's hearts with the story. Also, I think a free-roam game with ZotE style gameplay would really kick a lot of ass.

Mostly just a general concept but a Wii U game where the screen stays a fixed orientation and the gamepad shows a relative more-zoomed-in view. I'm thinking it'd be a female red panda character with goggles that clings to the walls and has tools to cross gaps by swinging on poles.

The controls use the relative viewpoint which means wall jumping requires a directional swap. Jumping to the ceiling will spin you around which means to run the same compass direction you have to hold the other direction on the controller. Meant to be a fast paced Sonic-like experience consisting of tightly knit level designs with various paths and platforming challenges.

Some ground types cannot be held on to and enemies can be attacked with the same tools that can be used to cross upside-down gaps, etc.

Life between Heaven and Hell


First of all, to avoid discussions on main character, there will be a character creation screen/tool. so you can be anything you want!

So I'll be a boy in this example!

So you start as a 16 years old teenager, who loves everyone, loves to help everyone with everything he can, but the problem is that nobody cares about him, everyone just speaks with him when he needs help, even his parents treat him like a nobody!
He ends up in depression and commits suicide on Halloween.
Here comes a problem...

  1. God can't accept him in Heaven because he committed suicide.​
  2. Satan/Devil can't accept him in Hell, because he was loved to help all the time and was too kind.​
So God and Satan come to a conclusion to test him and give him a new life depending on the test results you'll achieve!
Well I'm sure that all of you had thatperverted moment(s) in life when you wanted to see your class mate naked taking a shower or having fantasies with your childhood friends, so here's your opportunity! :tpi: :creep:

So the test is that your in the past, and you're in house with your childhood friend/classmate/whatever, who is the cutest, sexiest and most innocent person you know! But the thing is that he/she/it is a bit clumsy and manages to get him/her/it -self all dirty and needs to take a shower!!!!! :creep:
Now you'll have 3 choices which will determine you're future life! (which I won't tell you, just to keep you in tense! :tpi: ) So depending on the choice you make you'll end up with 3 life choices!
  1. The HeavenBoy
  2. The Hellboy (rise your hands if you get this reference :tpi: )
  3. The Boy (How original :creep: )
All the 3 characters will have different life campaigns and the game will have a total of 10 different endings (all the 3 different lives will have 3 different endings and the game itself will have its own ending after you get all the endings from the 3 lives!) so it will have a ton of replay value, but you wont get bored, because in order to get all the different endings you'll have to do different things in all the 3 lives every time! :D

In end you maybe are wondering what kind of game style will the game have.... Well I thought much about this, but this will be an experimental style... :P
  1. The HeavenBoy will be an RPG style game (a hybrid between JRPG and ARPG) and with some optional RTS elements too, for the ones who are interested.
  2. The Hellboy will be an Action FPS/TPS/RPG style game.
  3. The Boy will be a 2D/3D sidescroller RPG.
The awesome thing is that you'll be able to switch between the game styles and can have whatever you want for the 3 lives, the above one is the default, but depending on your choice the game will be a totally different one! :D

Lastly all the 3 lives will have cut scenes, secrets, unlockables, easter eggs, nudity, sex, comedy, drama, tragedy blablabla. etc. etc. etc. You get the point :creep: ! Plus the game will be multiplatform and will have achievements/trophies! And will have a collectors edition too!
And not to forget to good ol' retro lovers, I'll support the retro consoles too, all of them starting from the Magnavox Odyssey up until the PS2/Xbox (which are both already retro in my eyes)! :creep:
Shortly, the game will be available on all the existing gaming consoles and will get support for all the new generation consoles, after they'll be released!

The retail price will be 30$ and 60$ for the collectors!
And the special RetroPack Collection with all the retro game copies including your original choice PC/PS3/360 etc. will be 100$!

well a fighting game i have been thinking about is a completely open map with multiplayer where you can do whatever the f#ck you want : walk,drive, run, fly, ect. the story is about a mysterious artifact the grants large amounts of power, but at a cost; they slowly lose their minds and eventually begin to destroy everything in their path with the power obtained from the mysterious device. this was discovered after a group of scientist triggered it and shared their findings. the military gets a hold of it and starts test right away and start using it on soldiers without knowing what will come to befall them after things go to a total sh*t storm a special operative is called in to contain the threat; thats where player steps in, and uses the power of the strange device to get the power and eliminate all that have been affected by it. for an idea imagine superman and his strength and flight abilities, something similar to that using a burst of power and being able to move faster and of course stronger changing the extent of your attack abilities and as you kill more enemies you grow stronger by the power going to you from the person you killed effected by the device.


... um is this good or do i need more details?

Here's my Ideal.

Here's some details about it.

The name of it is Temporal Flux.
There will be three Main characters are William, Tyler, and Percy. (No this is not a reverence to Percy Jackson. )
There will be Three regains Past, Present, and Future. (Yes the regains are Time Periods.)
You will have a Pokemon like creature with you. (I'm still trying to think of a name for them)
Witch will also give you powers like, if it has water powers you can make your sword have water flowing around it.
You will also get a power later in the game called a cyber form (Yes this like Super Sonic or Goku).

Dimensions:

A game where you go on an adventure where your in a 3d environment and can flip between a 3d first person and a 2d top down environment. You would flip dimensions strategically but depending on how the game turns out, you could even playthrough only one dimension

Ideas for gameplay:
- 2d sprites in 2d mode instead of 3d models in 3d mode.
- Swappable dimensions each styled the same but with 2d in a retro style of the 3d world.
- Each dimension has it own set of controls.
- Battles in 3d will be real time while battles in 2d will be turn based(kind of like pokemon battles).

My game will be called: Virtua 3D adventurer deluxe platinum holofoil (because,from the point of view of video game industry,adding non-sense pre/sufix boost the selling probability.)

Its a game for 3DS.

We will move our character sprite or model downloaded on the SD card with the circle pad (no,seriously?) in...don't fall from your chair...any environment.Using the (3D,if you activate it) camera,gyro sensor and motion sensor,you will move your character in your house,forest...and all that is surrounding the hero will be bring back to life using AR function.Wool will transform into sheep,cat/dog/wolf(yeah,you can play with wolf!) will be ennemie,any toy that look like a weapon (or a real weapon if you fancy) will become weapon...so now you can finally shoot a dog with the NES gun!

•You will have the option to activate Streetpass and Spotpass.With streetpass™,you can exchange model/sprite with your friends (on your 3DS list,to avoid obscene sprite/model to be exchanged with stranger),play in co-op or battle with them.Online play will be available,with the mic activated to prepare for some epic battle or just for idle chit-chat.Spotpass™ will be used to give a replicate of your sprite/model,download some from nintendo (mario,zelda...) and to exchange "premium" items.

•You will be able to buy premium items from the in-game store with play coins.These items will be gems to upgrade your speed,armor,willpower,intelligence,strength,mana,HP...some high level fusion items...

•The currency of this world is matter.The source of everything that is bring back to life.When you destroy something,matter will be extracted and the something will return inanimate.The opposite is true.You can use matter to insuflate life into "broken" objects,because,when you broke an object,the game will not reanimate it (to avoid matter farming).You can work to earn matter,like teaching,forging,enchant weapon,alchemy...


•The max level will be 999 and when you reach that level,you can unlock a legendary class depending of your basic one and the karma(good,neutral,bad):
Priest:angel,white mage,demon
Warrior:Paladin,barbarian,dark lord
Assassin: (can't be good),mercenary,serial-killer
Thief:Robin Hood,merchant,gold seeker
Ranger:nymph,survivalist,(can't be bad)
Singer:Vocaloid4,meme,trash metal singer

The mage is an exception.They will constantly progress into a magic school or another.

Anti-matter control (Necromancer)

Metamorphose
Matter control
Summoner
Illusion
and alot more.



•Short description for some class.
Priest:Heal and buff
Warrior:Tank and do alot of damage
Assassin:Stealth attack and...kill o.o
Thief:Steal,avoid combat and disarm/locate trap.
Ranger:Make map,find quarry,detect some danger/trap...
Singer:Buff,debuff and attack (screaming,electric guitar,instrument attack (maracas rapid fire!) ...what diversity!)
Mage:They are very weak but they are the most versatile.

•Story:You build up your own stories,since the game can be played in any environment.NPC will spawn to give you quest that differ from place to place and ennemies found,dungeon will be created (A mountain will be created from stacked pillows) and orientation/skill quest will be there to change your karma and level up your job.

Alright, I've had this one on the burner for a long, long time...

So I'm a pretty big fan of 80s slasher flicks. Sure, they're cheesy and goofy, but that's all part of the charm. Unfortunately, they haven't really gotten their fair share when it comes to game adaptations. They usually focus more on the teens rather than the real stars - a huge mistake in my opinion.

So let's turn that around.

The game starts with your character, right now a shadowy figure, getting killed in a hit and run by a group of wild party teens. They panic, and dump your body into the nearby river. As the body drifts in the water, you get to design your character - male or female? Bulky or gaunt? Somewhere in between? Scars? Mute? Talkative? Are they undead, or did they just get lucky and survive? Etc. The more defined your character gets, the clearer and clearer your character becomes - until you're done and their eyes shoot open.

You emerge from the river, drenched, furious, and conveniently, near the teens' camp site. You stalk them down, one by one. This sequence teaches you the ropes of the game - you learn how to use the game's stealth mechanics, environmental kills, "heebie jeebies" (a system that rewards you for creeping out the targets - whether it be through outright taunts or by doing creepy things, like slamming doors or catching them unaware), various weapons, etc. You also learn that the more creative your kills are, the more points you're rewarded - which you can then use to upgrade your character. Through the upgrade system, you can specialize your slasher - Do you want to be a walking brick wall, like Jason? Invest points in health and strength. Do you want to warp reality to really terrorize your victims, like Freddy? Put some points into that skill set. Do you want outright invisibility, like the Predator (not quite a slasher villain, but come on, it's the Predator!)? Spend away! As the game progresses, you get to make the monster of your choosing.

And of course, you'll get to design the mask and costume of your choosing, customizing it along the way.

After the tutorial, the game opens up. You see, you're located in a varied tropical island filled with irresponsible college students on spring break. Working to sabotage any methods of escape - destroy telephone lines, disable cars, etc. - will be a constant goal. The island as a whole will be a persistent sandbox; it's yours to explore and do with as you wish. The primary objective is to become more powerful and to build your legend. Boss fights come in the form of other slashers who try to move in on your territory - you'll have to defend yourself in vicious, island-wide games of cat and mouse. The college students will become more of a threat as the storyline progresses, defending themselves with weapons and improvised traps, requiring the player to adapt along the way. Even the military may become involved - meaning you'll have to avoid capture as you continue your spree.

But what about multiplayer? Ah, don't think I forgot! In multiplayer, up to 4 players can import their characters and work together in a variety of specific scenarios. The targets in this mode will be extremely well armed and prepared, requiring teamwork and precision to achieve victory. There will be leaderboards to reward the fastest and most efficient teams.

Why just act like a monster in a sandbox game when you can be a monster in a sandbox game?

Since "Dead Island" is already taken, I'll settle with "SLASHER" - for PC and all next gen consoles.

And in a perfect world, this will be the game's theme song.

I am Lucario who was once a catboy, that was once a bunnyboy. I am making an origins game on that. It will be a 2D Platforming RPG for the Dreamcast where you run through the kingdom the Temp. You fight spambots, fanboys, trolls, and the bosses are all the members of the staff. Your job is find out what the fuck happened to make you change your character so many times.

Also do you want the game for a specific device like iOS ,Win,Wii or Wii U, PS3,PS4, Vita,and so.

Will it be a Copy Righted or CC(Creative Commons) type of licence.

Unfortunately I am currently lacking in visual aids..
Here's the basic idea.
You are a game developer, and you're trying to make a game. Unfortunately you and your team are having "creative differences" so you shut yourself in your room to finish it without interruption.
You work tirelessly day and night to make your dream come true without sleep, without food, with minimal bathroom breaks, until you pass out at your desk.

You wake up to find yourself in your unfinished game, talking to the NPCs, going around with your hero, doing all these little things. You run into bugs and and glitches you haven't ironed out of your game yet, and your team gets owned because of poor balancing issues, but luckily you have your trusty tablet to work with that's connected to your cloud so you simply edit your game and fix things. As you progress through your world, trying to understand your characters better and trying to come up with a good ending, you find more and more amiss with it.. Characters are acting differently than you expect, you're coming across cliches you purposely took out of your game and avoided... You realize someone else is editing your game, and you must escape your world and protect your people before your former partner ruins it all for you..

Essentially you are a fallen God, you are limited to a tablet to control your world, while your former partner has full control and is trying to remake the world as his ideal. You must finish the game while editing and the world to protect yourself and your new comrades, while making your deadline. =)

Notes:
The game being created is a typical RPG or JRPG, and when edited will play on cliches you typically find in them. Battle systems will shift and change depending on what settings you apply using the tablet, along with the look and everything else such as your controls etc. You can move your menus and resize as you set fit and set up your own buttons and hotkeys and map everything.
You can create items and place chests and change encounters and create NPCs, but if you make it too unbalanced and easy for yourself to get through the RPG story, then you will fail overall because your game won't sell when you return to your own world. You must make a fair game, that can also be beaten so that you can get to the end, finish the game, and make a masterpiece that will sell enough to at least fund a sequel.

One of my many ideas. x]] But the one that seems to borrow the least from other games or franchises, so yeah.. >.>; Been dreaming of this for a long while now. x]]
