Where did you unpack the source?

Just cd around, and use ls. It's a file that's called "makefile"

This is what I get:

Code:
chris@ubuntu:~$ ls
Desktop Games PlayOnLinux's virtual drives Ubuntu One
Documents Music Public Videos
Downloads Pictures Templates xf86-networktablet
chris@ubuntu:~$ cd xf86-networktablet
chris@ubuntu:~/xf86-networktablet$ ls
LICENSE.md Makefile networktablet.c networktablet.h protocol.h README.md
chris@ubuntu:~/xf86-networktablet$

And just run "makefile"?

EDIT: I tried running makefile, this is what it came up with:
Code:
chris@ubuntu:/xf86-networktablet$ make
libtool --mode=compile gcc -c `pkg-config --cflags xorg-server` networktablet.c
/bin/sh: 1: pkg-config: not found
libtool: compile: Failed to create `.libs'
make: *** [networktablet.lo] Error 1
chris@ubuntu:/xf86-networktablet$

Easy fix
Code:
sudo apt-get intsall pkg-config

then run
Code:
make
again, as you did, in the xf86-networktablet folder.
