You didn't read his posts. He said tweaks can slow it down. Jailbreaking in and of itself will do nothing but free the filesystem.

Your friend is just trolling don't listen to him. Jailbreaking by itself will not slow down or shorten the battery life. It matters what and how much you tweak it or install on your i device. In your case it might but not by much.

I think there are more crashes when you jailbreak an iOS device. Well at least that's the case for me.
Most likely, any crashes you are experiencing are due to faulty tweaks or failure to update through Cydia. There are no known issues with any of the released jailbreaks, however, a few of them have been updated since their initial release. (Absinthe 2.0, for example, was updated 4 times to Absinthe 2.0.4 within the week it was released, and has stayed on that version. Cydia should have told you there was an essential update when the bugs were fixed.)
