A friend said that it will so I'm wondering if this is true. And I just got my iPod.
Common Jailbreak tweaks can slow down a jailbroken iPod… But jailbreaking won't ruin anything…
How much will it slow down? So your saying the battery life will be the same as I is right now. And I'm aware that it voids the warranty.
You didn't read his posts. He said tweaks can slow it down. Jailbreaking in and of itself will do nothing but free the filesystem.
I know that, I just don't want it so slow I can't play some of the games I have on it.
Slow down depends on what tweaks are installed
All I want to jailbreak it for is to use roms and emulators with it. But damn I wish you dident have to jailbreak it for that, but that's the way it is.
I think there are more crashes when you jailbreak an iOS device. Well at least that's the case for me.
Your friend is just trolling don't listen to him. Jailbreaking by itself will not slow down or shorten the battery life. It matters what and how much you tweak it or install on your i device. In your case it might but not by much.
Most likely, any crashes you are experiencing are due to faulty tweaks or failure to update through Cydia. There are no known issues with any of the released jailbreaks, however, a few of them have been updated since their initial release. (Absinthe 2.0, for example, was updated 4 times to Absinthe 2.0.4 within the week it was released, and has stayed on that version. Cydia should have told you there was an essential update when the bugs were fixed.)
What are tweaks anyway?
that you can add stuff like moving backgrounds, other sounds and that kind of stuff, or gyro tweaks in your homescreen for a 3D effect
