To my knowledge, 3DS's as systems can't get banned - there's no such feature in the online component. I may be wrong though, and possible bans could be account-based.

Not out of the realm of possibility. How else can they monitor which system was qualified for ambassador program or not. It may not be account based but each 3DS has an unique ID, perhaps hardware ID or similar.

Wasn't it just that you needed to log into the eShop before the time the new prices hit the market? Nothing more should be needed in the ID'ing of the consoles or accounts. Just flag them as "registered before X" for ambassador and you're good to go. If it was possible to ban consoles, I think Nintendo would have done it for flashcart usage on games like Mario Kart DS. It should be that hard to determine if a console is running a flashcart?

I wouldn't get my hopes high for that.
3DS hardware is still very limited.
PS1 is more likely, but will it be close to perfect, that's another question.

N64 chances are quite low for a playable performance, all depends on the 3DS's GPU. The CPU is like a low end mobile chip used on the 3DS. lol

Ambassador games are account based AFAIK. You can transfer them and you could get them on any system as long as it connected to the eShop before the given date.

Better than nothing though. The 3DS emulations could especially benefit quite a bit from the extra hardware in the 3DS. Just like DSi specific emulators (just by comparing compatibility of the DSi/DS GBA emulator made by ichifly. The extra ram does add quite a bit to it).

Still it's very early to say anything regarding the real usage of the hack and what is required.

A very optimized PS1 emulator may run fine,
but I don't expect it soon, maybe around a year from the exploit launch.

Now, N64 is a little bit harder,
PSP magically could run Mario 64 without sound at decent speed.
And it took a lot of time for that emulator to be released.

I had noticed actually this picture neimod posted which you can see the modified bits,
and that's not something simple to do, I mean here's a nice quote

Thesspa: Unfortunately, you forget that you also need to update the embedded signature inside the 'hex edited' savegame to match the changes you made. Otherwise the 3ds will not accept the modified savegame.
The method to calculate the signature is based on AES, which you will find close to impossible to break without the right key. Nobody outside of Nintendo's engineering circle managed to recalculate the signature. Until now..."

which leads you to thinking this exploit, whatever it is- is most definitely a save game exploit. I for one can't wait.

Well 3DS is more advance the DS, we don't know how the 3DS operates. Sure, they can probably detect if the 3DS is hacked when the 3DS goes into Nintendo Network, Nintendo can plant a software where it detects to see if it's a hacked 3DS or not and then flag that. (ban it for future online play and E-shop login)

Lets not forget the 3DS is connected to Nintendo servers constantly if you have it connected to the internet, Nintendo may ping out for hacked 3DS's and ban them. ;)

If it means sacrificing the e-shop and online gameplay for having numerous emulators, and unlock japanese and european games, I'm fine with that :grog:

I'm not sacrificing anything. :)

I'm sure the 3DS is more secured then people think over here. It's most likely has advance security measures, such as blocking online capabilities of modified 3DS's. I remember some X-360's where hardware blocked from online other than account banned. ;)

The one problem I haven't been able to solve was tweaking physics, it's almost a philosophical problem, are all universes on a time limit? Can you have creation without destruction, like ying and yang.
