New update is being pushed out. Mine is about half way done. Looks to be pretty minor but if it helps speed up things and keep people from crashing... I'll be happy.

Version 2.1.0 U available via wireless internet connection includes the following improvements:
Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.

i like how the wii u can't tell time the timer started at 1 minute climbed to 38 in under a minute and back down to 3 and its slowly going up 1 second at a time. ETA is one thing nintendo has not yet learned to do.

Sounds about as reliable as the Windows file copying dialog box...

Does this new update patch any potential exploits?

Anybody know what this update did? I just wanted to play some Mario.

But am I the only one who thinks the timer is a bit messed up? How the hell does it work out? Does it go HH:MM ? Or MM:SS ?

Download finished up pretty quick after all. Updating is taking its sweet time though.

Update is now done. Doing some navigation testing...

Main menu - System Settings = 16.3 seconds

Exiting System Settings back to Menu = 21.7 seconds

Loading Miiverse from Main Menu = 12.2 seconds

Yeah those seem just as slow as before... :(

TVii still not available (expected since the notes don't list it)

They truly need faster update servers. Never this slow on our Xbox or PS3. Kind of makes me feel like I'm updating my 3ds only slower.

Was happy that it didn't stop me playing any games while it downloaded. Hell, I could even jump online in Tekken and it just paused.

The next MS/Sony console needs to do this.

They're doing ETA based on just the current speed, and the current speed is fluctuating a lot if it's jumping around that much.

Instead, they should have it take an average (or a mode range) of the last few measured values and calculate based on that.

Sounds about as reliable as the Windows file copying dialog box...
Windows falls into the same issue, but it also has the filesystem overhead to worry about. Three files that total up to 1MB take up more space and I/O than a single 1MB file because there's overhead associated with each file, and the dialog box doesn't take that into account.

For the record:2.1.0 E is also available. It's still downloading, but I expect the same changes (whatever they are).

Main menu - System Settings = 16.3 seconds
Hmm...my other timings seem to be the same (pre-patch), but Main menu -> system settings takes me over 20 seconds as well. I'll do another timing after applying the patch.

@ShadowSoldier (and others): I dunno what you are referring to exactly, but it's impossible to truly predict the time of downloading something, as that speed constantly changes.
If it's about installing the patch (I haven't gone that far yet)...then yeah, it should be a consistent time.
EDIT2: hey...the actual installing of the update doesn't even HAVE a timer. No offense, but I think you should read up on how the internet works, guys.

@Jayro: there aren't even public exploits publicly available. So unless nintendo has infiltrated team twiizers or the activity of Crediar, tueidj or whomever else has access...then I'd say no. I've heard mention in another thread that the vwii exploits still work.
(and I don't believe these will ever truly be fixed: they've been public for years. My bet is that nintendo knew this was to be hackable and put every effort into making sure exploits stay within the vwii...kinda like the 3DS).

EDIT: damn...

This was almost certainly to fix the MiiVerse and the console freezing issues experienced with it. That's probably it

I don't understand why you guys are having problems with a slow connection. I finished mine in about 20 minutes and i'm on a 10mbps connection using the wireless.
