And this is my solution to the problem of always having to change discs/memory cards and being unable to use certain features of games because they require legacy hardware that isn't wii compatible. It is not a solution to enable people to play games that they couldn't already play.

I don't get it, so the new Wiis without Gamecube parts are just never going to get anything because they couldn't play it to begin with? And aren't you working on emulating legacy hardware like the BBA and the GBA link cable?

I'm still crossing my fingers for him figuring out a way for those Wii's to be included some day, AP and all. (Not that I have one but it would just conceptually be really cool.) If He can then I'm sure a lot of broken Wii drive people will get their wish, too, in the same boat.

why talk about the ap around devo?... is choice.. and i think that: if post like that not exist and lot of people not complain about AP:

tuedj release the source.. i think this..

use dm and fuck the streaming audio...

people give reason to tuedj becose have devo without ap remember that!

Not sure why there had to be 72 pages of this when it's already been covered...

But really one sentence says it all... Because this is how he wants it to be. He spent HIS free time making this program and GIVING IT AWAY for FREE for everyone to use. Code a similar project and then feel free to remove the AP... but he doesn't owe you guys anything for you getting to play with his toys.

Does seem a bit silly to me. In my case, 90% of the games are ones I own physical copies of but some I want to play like RE CV and RE3 I actually own them too but for the Dreamcast and mine is busted. As I already bought them once, I think its fair enough if I download the iso for them and play them on another defunct system.

I understand where the guy is coming from but seems like a pointless exercise to use AP on a defunct console.

he has to for legal reasons, tueidj likes to pretend he complies with DMCA and stay within their guidelines. adding the AP does so.

Video games accessible on personal computers and protected by technological protection measures that control access to lawfully obtained works, when circumvention is accomplished solely for the purpose of good faith testing for, investigating, or correcting security flaws or vulnerabilities, if:
  • The information derived from the security testing is used primarily to promote the security of the owner or operator of a computer, computer system, or computer network; and
  • The information derived from the security testing is used or maintained in a manner that does not facilitate copyright infringement or a violation of applicable law. (A new exemption in 2010.)
but still its all really illegal regardless, we just pretend it isn't, since bullet point one is more a matter of opinion. i highly doubt he sent an email to nintendo describing the flaw. if he did congrats, you win.

That's not the thing. Instead of just anwsering with his own direct explanation, he's sat back and let people bicker for months.

I dont know what happened, I missed the whole shitstorm. Is the opening post on the DIOS MIOS thread related to it?

Agreed. In my opinion, this is pretty much all that needs to be said on this...

He coded this for free in his spare time, and does not owe us an explanation. He doesn't even need to have any good reason for including the anti-piracy protection in the first place. He can do what he wants with his program.

If it's not in the right section, people who are looking for it won't find it nearly as easily. They'll either make their own thread or post in the main section and have to be directed to this thread since it wouldn't be visible.

If it makes you sick or something, make a greasemonkey/JS script to hide it specifically?

This thread should die and burn forever in hell.
It looks like it's already burning to me.
It also kinda resembles my impression of hell. The term "weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth" seems to describe both just fine.

I'm sure it's too late now but reading your post just gave me an idea.
You could put one of those one-post locked threads in this section with a copy of the OP and a link to the real thread in EoF.
Seems I've seen them do that before with threads that could fit into various forums to redirect people to the right place.

True or false this wreck of a topic could've been easily stopped.
He's answered the question though (back when Devolution was first announced), people just don't care. He said he didn't want it to be a warez loader. Lots of people (including myself) have repeated his answer to whiny users countless times, but that hasn't settled it.
