A price cut on both Vita and memory card will put it under my consideration. Until then I won't be buying it anytime soon. I bought PSP when Vita came out, and I'm fine with doing that again when Vita's successor comes out.
That might be the route I take, honestly. I have nothing against Sony, I just seriously prefer Nintendo handhelds and the IPs they offer, and I don't want to have to deal with two current gen consoles and buying full-price games for them, and it's not like I'm gonna carry both of them around with me. I'm thinking of grabbing a PSP soon, and perhaps I'll get a Vita in the distant future. It's a pretty damn powerful machine, and I can only imagine the homebrew that could be available by the time the next Sony handheld comes out (assuming the Vita is indeed hacked at all, outside of PSP mode).

even stranger the price cut isn't this year.
Not really, it's still relatively new tech they've got out and I'm sure it still costs quite a lot to produce. No doubt that there'll be a price cut next year when the parts costs less to make.

This isn't like with the 3DS where they were able to do a price cut straight away, that thing was sold at a profit up until they cut the price.

I really want to get a Vita but the problem I have with buying one is spending all that money, and knowing the thing is going to collect dust after I finish Uncharted and Gravity Rush. My 3DS is suffering from the same problem, the last time I used it was to add some people to my friend's list.

It's not really strange they can't cut the price yet, but the strange part is that they would announce a price cut that's going to happen somewhere in 2013.

Still there are tons of games for the 3DS that cost around $50 still even though it's a long time since the games were released.
No idea what currency that is. But in America, it's $40 USD. But either way, I think holding a high price is more of a Nintendo thing above anything else. I remember very early this year, NSMBDS, Mario Kart DS, and Super Mario 64 DS (a freaking launch title) still retailed new for $35. Remember, at this point we had Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 for only $40. And yet YEARS old DS games, at least one of them eight years old, was still retailing for $35. Nintendo knows people will buy their games regardless, so they don't bring the price down unless the game sold poorly *cough*Metroid:OtherM*cough*

For example Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mario-Kart-7-Nintendo-3DS/dp/B004JHY3ZI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1349093519&sr=8-1

The only thing I could imagine making sales worse for Nintendo is the second hand market (if piracy doesn't count, ie, the 3DS at the moment). That is also something that is being thought of in ways (region lock (no imports) and certain saves that can't be removed). We'll only see how good or bad the situation gets in the coming years of the 3DS. Also the same thing could be said for Sony and the PSVita

Well the 3DS is in that situation for quite a few people. I've got mine waiting for more games, while I happily enjoy my DSiXL/PSP Go. Sure there are great games, but one can play Zelda only so many times before it gets boring and repetitive. Just like almost every game out there.

Funny thing is I was seriously considering buying a used Vita (prices are hovering around $170 on Ebay) for PSP games on dat OLED and Gravity Rush { :3 }. But with this news, I guess I'll wait.

It's not news, it's not an announcement, it's not a confirmation - it's a Sony representative saying that the Vita will receive a price drop in due time. He even specifies that it's not going to happen this years, obviously meaning "not anytime soon".

It's obvious that the system will get a price drop when one is justified - when the components are cheaper. It happens to every system and it's nothing to be incredibly excited about.

The article confirms that a price-drop will be coming in 2013.

The executive confirmed at the Eurogamer Expo that a price reduction is coming in 2013, but precisely when it will be introduced is "still under discussion".

How about december 2013? Sounds good?

It's infantile to wait for something that may or may not happen without a concrete and set-in-stone date. Now, I'm not one to complain - I usually buy systems mid-way through their life cycle just because I can't be bothered to wait for game releases and I'm not planning to buy a Vita anytime soon, or a 3DS for that matter, but still - the point stands. We don't know *when* it's going to happen, so January 2013 is just as likely as December 2013. If you're willing to wait over a year to make a purchase, that's fine. If you're not ready to do so, don't let a vague announcement cloud your judgement.

Well price drops happen. The Vita, regardless of sales, isn't going to stay $250 from the day it launched to the day it stops production. It'll go down eventually.

December 2013 is highly unlikely, they'd most likely cut it near October-November the latest since that's when the usual "game flood" starts and holiday shopping starts as well.

December 2013 sounds fine to me even if the price cut will likely be before then. I'm not in any rush to buy one. And even if I do suddenly find the need to get one immediately, used prices are plummeting steadily so eventually I should be able to snag one for ~$150, anyways.

A couple more months and I have no doubt that it'll drop to around $150.

That's not what I meant. I was just teasing Emigre because he was making troll-post about the Vita when he owns one. :P But I know what you mean.

Vita doesnt need a price cut, it needs to include a 16GB memory card free with the console. Id happily pay the price it is now if it included the memory card.
