I got an email from the acekard team with that file attached. I think they are trying to keep Big N's hands as far away as possible from the updates using this kind of distribution method (which I think is useless as Big N will get the file anyway)

Lol, more like they're trying to shut everyone up after the barrage of emails they've received.

not to mention the absurd forum trolling they get. But I know AceKard team is on track. They have a better record than some other manufacturers which I also like. I am not biased toward one or the other but at least AceKard and Supercard DSTWO teams update regularly and those are my cards of choice at the moment although I listen to my walkman on the AC bus more than bringing out the handhelds.

Ahhh, nice to see something. Feel slightly bad for moaning about no update to be honest though, after learning why updating Acekard 2i's update method was different from DSTwo's and such.
Booting up takes 10-20 seconds longer than normal, but since it's a beta release it's no big deal really. Thanks to Team Acekard then!

Absurd? Is that word still in use? I thought only old fogies used it. Anyways, back on topic. People are getting annoyed as AK2i used to be on the top of its game, but it seems that they are taking longer and longer. 5 weeks to come up with a beta? Shitty R4 clone companies were coming up with updates within 48 hours. At the end of the day, these guys make cards that circumvent DS security, updating it isn't new to them. Me personally, I think the AK2i is approaching the end of its life span and will end up like the HW44 version.

consider the bootloader update wait, the lack of frequent akaio updates, the old"er" ak2i design, and the ongoing contact issue, i'd say its been at the end for awhile. what is keeping it afloat is the cheap price and the fact that norm coded a pretty good AP routine into an already great kernel.

Hey sorry for posting this here but, I thought it would be the best place without starting a new topic for nothing. I

From what I understand the DSL version lets you cart swap, the DSi version doesn't bother since cart swapping was nixed on the DSi and 3DS.

It's generally used to unbrick flash carts. You start the update program with a good flash cart, then take it out of the DS/Lite, put a bricked Ak2i in, and then tell the system to apply the update. It'll apply the full update to the bricked Ak2i, overwriting the bootloader with the right version, making is usable again.

Somebody was asking a similar question in another AK2i forum about unbricking. From what I remember they were told it wasn't possible. Something to do with the bootup binary being altered therefore it would never boot in the unbricking process

I had read that in the Acekard setup guide in another thread but, I guess I just figured there was more to it then that.

Thanks much for the quick reply.

Well you can't boot a bricked cart to unbrick itself, that's why cart swapping is used.

Of course it requires another flash cart in the first place, so many people just go ahead and buy a different model to try out and have two anyways just in case.

I understand that, but the reply read as if the bricked cart wouldn't boot at all. Even doing a swap was pointless

I am an affluent woman from West Oakland, hence my words may be to difficult for some to understand. There is no need for name calling, though one could just as well state that you are mearly a mortal.

Anyway luckily I don't own a HW44. I verified this last night. And since someone else tested this update and found there's a delay, I will wait for the final version to come out.

As far as homebrew goes the DS is far from the strongest platform, and a lot of what's popular now is emulation.

The DS does have upsides compared to android though, but it mostly revolves around physical controls and the ability to play the DS library fluently, so that's why people focus on it.

sadly, piracy seems to be the reason to buy a flash kit these days. its like everyone forgot about homebrew. =(

That's all DS flash carts ever were for. The homebrew community for the DS never was strong. Even people's parents buy R4 cards as christmas and birthday presents so they don't have to keep track of a bunch of cartridges for their kids, let alone splurge out 30 bucks a pop every time their kid wants a game. People generally don't have the money to spend that way on their kids. And the kid definitely won't have enough spare cash laying around to get more than half a handful of games.

I hope 3DS never gets pirated because at least Nintendo has been lenient on prices on some of their flagship titles ($10 for Pilotwings and Steel Diver, $15 for Kid Icarus). It is too bad, though, that they keep their price near the launch price for other titles such as Mario Kart and Mario 3D Land. Mario Kart is a great game but the other Mario titles aren't really that exciting. Star Fox baffles me though. It has no online game play and I would expect by now the price would have dropped below 20 bucks but that hasn't happened yet. I think it will though.

anyways, as my sig goes....

My just instantly cancels the update when i try to run it...
guess i'll wait for the official update.

Just throw the latest update in a folder called "update" and it should work. I was getting the same error when I had both update files in a folder called "firmware updates". I deleted the DSL/DS Phat update file and reneamed the folder to "update"and it worked afterwards.

Thought you had to put the update in the / of the SD...
