Re: Walking dead games. I gave up on the TV show because it went sub par and only got worse and tend not to read comics so I never did those either but if they are of note I will have to jump start my 360 and get them going. I was planning to grab them when all the episodes got released but seen as there is not a lot I care to play coming out for the rest of the year (and quite possibly until next Christmas run up) save perhaps Borderlands 2 (especially if they make good on their promise of a story) and the developers of Dishonored succeeded in attracting my attention at least I should at least give it a try.

The walking dead series are great, i've enjoyed them immensely, they are easy to pick up and the games are all about story telling anyway and also making you decide on hard decisions, i am curious and want to see the tv show myself only problrm is the tv show may give away major spoilers to the game so i don't think that is a good idea.

I've never played Mass Effect 3, but I read a little about that game ending stuff.

Correct if I am wrong, but lots of gamers were against the game producers because the sweet, colorful and good ending was almost impossible to achieve. In my opinion, as a piece of art, a game should be bitter, hard, challenging, and must offer no easy path to the end, but, as a retail product, it must be playable (and possible to beat) for the most of costumers. Developers live in this dilemma.

I feel that gamers these days are not wanting challenging gameplay, they seem to wanna get through a game quickly and then on to the next.

This is true. Nobody likes a challenge any more. Remember 'NES Hard' ? Some of those games while difficult, were beatable, but they required a lot of time for you to get through levels or dungeons or games. But when you did, you felt like you accomplished so much. Personally, I think the biggest crime is people who just rush through an open world game, and don't bother exploring. Me, I love exploring in games, which is the only reason why I play Skyrim.

I totally agree with you, i remember those tough to beat games and i loved the challenge.

Back then we had all the time in the world to complete them as we were kids with no responsibility, i wish i had that ammount of time now, hehe, it paid off because i am good at a lot of nes games now, most kids these generation would scream in terror as to how hard these games are XD.

I like games that get progressively harder, but are not laughably easy at the beginning either. I have been playing Unit 13 and it starts off on a moderate level and gets harder, the elite missions are even more difficult, but it's a good game and you have lot's of difficulties to choose from as you progress through the game. After you beat the first 5 missions, you unlock the next row which starts off easy and gets harder, but the missions in the first row are getting harder as there are more to complete so you either need to level up by doing the easier missions the next row or attempt to do the hard ones in the first.

If yu were a game developer and had to create a game, you would have to account for a lot of things if your new games was going to be played by all ages or a particular social group, making the game almost impossible wouldn't get people to play it you would only attract a particular crowd and they are not revenueing you enough money to keep your game development studio afloat, what would you do?

I have no hate on easy mode, it's an option at most. Sometimes people want to play games for various reasons. Mass Effect 3 was a great example of this. Instead of having standard easy-medium-hard, they made you chose the "experience" you wanted. People who wanted a cinematic experience can have the gameplay easy so they can focus on the story if they're not great at the game. People who just liked the gameplay could make the story quite on-rails so they can focus on the gameplay.

Easy mode just makes games accessible to more people.

Also props to ShadowSoldier for that irony, it's so very true.

How the hell do you choose the different options in that game? Was in the options or something or was it at the beginning of the game and I just missed it entirely. I don't remember choosing RPG mode or whatever.

I would go thought the revenue path, and developers use to choose money in this situation, and that's why games are, in general, easier than 20 years ago.

(Maybe that's why indie games are still alive. Some indie devs create masterpieces for some particular groups)

i think just after creating your character you get to choose what changes you want in your game, i choosed a more rpg experience but i still felt it was just a shooter imo.

If grinding = challenging then of course I hate and don't want it because it slows down the gameplay and pauses the story which is usually engaging and awesome.

Isn't grinding part of the gameplay? If you reach the stage of the game quicker than you have levelled your character then yes grinding is what's needed.

I was more referring to watching my nephew gaming, the games were always set on easy, i know he plays his Xbox with his mates and i would guess they all do the same, play the game on the easy setting.
I don't think it is because all it really does is waste people's time and drag a game that would normally be able to finished story wise in about 3-5 hours to a 20 or 30 hours because you need to endlessly grind to get through to the next bit.

There's a reason it's called "easy mode" - it's a setting that you can choose.

Yeah, for someone like me, it's not going to be very challenging or engaging. For people new to a genre or franchise (or just gaming in general), though, it can provide a frustration and stress free introduction.

Well really you've just proven my point in a way.

Obviously you're in too much of a rush to finish the game than be prepared to enjoy the game and all of challenges.

If you have reached a point to where you have to grind then either:

1. You got to said point quickly and your char aint levelled up enough.

2. You are able to win the challenging battle with your current char's level but it's too much much like hard work, so you avoid the battle for now and level up further.

Life doesn't have an easy mode. Suck it up.

*proceeds to make FPS game where your enemies have extremely precise hitscan aiming that take 30 shots to die whilst it only takes one shot to kill the player*

Monster Hunter. I like games like this. Games where you actually have to learn to play right. There's no "avatar strength" or whatever Egoraptor called it. In Monster Hunter you actually get better, you can't just grind and level up and get the best stats and equipment.
This.

No nonsense combat, where almost every death is pretty much the fault of the player and not on game mechanics. A game where a newbie player will get raped, even when using the best weapons and armour available in the game.

Not many games nowadays rely this much on skill, and is why I'm so drawn into Monster Hunter

Unless we're talking Unite, which had a lot of bullshit deaths due to the bad hitboxes (mainly due to the fault of the old engine, especially noticeable on bigger monsters). No faults with P3rd as far as I'm concerned though.

He needs to play DoDonpachi II or Touhou he'll be setting that shit to easy in a few minutes and in the case of Touhou that" Easy mode" isn't easy at all it's borderline Hard mode.

I agree with this so much. Oh my God. x_x

Please let me play the game, instead of fighting this monster over and over for hours on end.

Unfortunately some people want to think they are being hardcore and winning when really they're just playing easy of mode.

I've heard this criticism a lot about Call of Duty, that in spite of looking very cinematic and Michael Bay-esque, anybody could do it.
that may be so but the last difficulty isn't exactly easy, on black ops it took a few days to do the last difficulty and it was annoying
