Well, I have an R4 on the way which I payed $5 for along with the EZ-Flash 3in1 for my ds lite

I plan on getting a 3DS XL when they are released, now I know whatever card I get for it, I may just have to play the mario game that comes with the system until an update for the card is released,

but mainly I am wondering what card I should get. (I have been looking at supercard alot)

I also want to know, how do the plugins on the supercard work? Do you just load the file like you would a game, or are they more functional, like if you try to load a gba game, will it automatically load it thru the gba plugin?
what about the lameboy plugin?

Are there even any cards which allow direct loading of gba or gbc games?

Also how often are most cards updated?

What Is real time save?

I like how the supercard has a gba emulator so I wont have to carry around both lite and 3ds xl but thats not that big of a point to me.

Are there any features that the supercard lacks that other cards have?

Thanks a bunch

The original R4 won't run on the 3DS ever, just so you know.

http://gbatemp.net/t290097-which-flash-cart-should-i-get

Plugins are run through their own menu that pops up when the cart first boots, it's like a fancy homebrew.

There's no way to run GBA/GBC directly from slot-1, you need slot-2 for GBA, and that doesn't exist on the 3DS, so emulation's the only bet, but even the DSTwo's isn't perfect (and it's the best). The DS is a bad choice for handheld emulation, it's incredibly weak compared to other options.

Carts that are updated usually update within a few days of a 3DS system update (some of them, like the supercard, in 24-48 hours). Others can take weeks.

Real-Time Save is like Save State in emulators, but usable with ROMs on the actual DS. Very handy for some things.

Not aware of anything the DSTwo lacks that other carts have (that would be considered a selling point).

There is absolutely no reason (apart from cost) why you shouldn't get a DStwo. Even for Pre-3DS consoles it's a bliss.

I understand that. I ordered the r4 for my lite cause it is super cheap, and coupled with the 3in1 i should be able to play most gba games (probly all that I own)

also, i think i will go with the dstwo cause it has pretty much everything other carts have and then some

I thought thats what real time save was, which is good, cause i was just wanting to make sure that it wasnt the normal way of saving.

as far as plugins goes, does that mean if I put the gba emulator plugin and the lameboy plugin on the card
when it boots, will i have a menu listing those two and also ds games?

also thanks both of you, rydian you pretty much answered everything i wanted to know

and both of you basically confirmed my thoughts on the subject (i just wanted to ask experienced users before I ordered something)

Yes.

They all show up as small icons (if installed correctly)

Note that the GBA and SNES emu's aren't perfect but it's extremely impressive for the DSTwo.

ok, cool, snes im not worried about, cause i dont think i have any snes games any more, but may pick some up from an antique shop or flea market as they are cheaper than used game stores there.

and I know gba is not perfect, but when i get 3ds it will be my only option on there, so it would be nice to be able to have my pokemon leaf green on it
(i would guess leaf green should play smoothly)

The Pokemon games are pretty popular so they should run quite well.

I was talking about the build in SNES emulator ;p
Not the actual SNES it self.

On top of that.
Most if not all games work without hacks/patches.
The DSTwo was the only DS flashcard that could play Pokemon Black/White on launch.
I think it was the same on B/W2.....
As well as for other games that where released.

I know that lol, but if i like to play a game then why not buy it?
though i guess i wouldnt feel bad about a snes game since all those are used any more so no money from it goes to nintendo or the devs.

but yeah, usually i buy games i like. though sometimes if i just want to know if a game is good i may download and play it for a day or so, and if i like it i buy it, if not i delete it

I fully agree with it in a way.

Good games should indeed be bought.
So that Devs get more money to further develop games.

However if they make a game that sells itself they become lazy and just rerelease the same game over and over again.

It's debatable indeed.

But I agree.
I always buy the good games.
Most of them are collectors edition.

I play Pokemon Emerald on DS2 and it runs very well. The only complain I'll make is the smaller screen but it's still nice that you have the feature.
