A young man who was seen in a YouTube video dangerously driving and swerving around other cars on Highway 15 is due in court this morning.
Police have confirmed they arrested the 18-year-old from Repentigny, Que., Wednesday and charged him with reckless driving.
The YouTube video caught the attention of people after it was posted online a few days ago. The young driver can be seen laughing while going almost 200 km/hr on Highway 15 in the Mirabel area. He swerves, passes other cars on the right and speeds past others on the shoulder.
Daniel Thibaudeau, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec, said. "That person can face numerous fines — we're talking about hefty fines of over $1,000 — suspension of licence, or can face criminal charges."
Thibaudeau admits police have seen an increase in criminal acts posted online.
The head of Quebec's Road Safety Board, Jean-Marie de Koninck, said parents should step up.
"I call upon the adults which have influence on these kids — particularly the parents. They're the first, right there up front, who should discuss with them to drive safely and drive responsibly."

People always vying for attention in anyway possible. Its sad to think he had to put himself and everyone around him at risk, just to make a bunch of people at their computers think hes cool...

That's not cool. Like I live out in the country side, and at night it's usually dead on the road, so driving like that is no problem. Hell last night me and a friend managed to go 220 in his Chevy. Scary as hell. And that was on an empty road, this is just insane.

I can drive around with those speeds legal in Germany.
Only takes me 5 minutes before I've crossed the border and ~10 minutes before I'm on the Autobahn.

However It's his own fault for driving recklessly.
I've seen what a car looks like after an high speed accident on the Autobahn and it's not really pleasant to look at.

220km/h!? That's a little too fast for my tastes.

Kinda wish he woulda either hit that semi, or nicked it and rolled his car into the ditch.
No one of value would have been hurt, though the dude in the semi would probably be a little pissed off.

Oh it was fast, believe me. But like I said, we're on the country side, so it's A LOT of straight, empty roads.

The trouble with empty roads is every now and then a car, or bike goes past, and because it happens so infrequently you're not prepared for it.

So let me get this straight...

You decide to go 200+Kmphm on the freeway...
Your buddy decides to film this while in the car...
You also have no problem with this...
It's posted on youtube and incriminates you against a charge of reckless driving...

Huh. Everything went better than expected.
