WiiFlow 3.1 (Mod) Installation and Setup

WiiFlow 3.1 (Mod) Installation and Setup

** This guide and more can also be found on WiiFloWiki 4**

This guide is an attempt to explain how to install WiiFlow 3.1 (mod) on your Wii. It will not go into detail about using the Homebrew channel, wad managers, and partitioning your USB HDD. Here's some links that might help you with them.

HBC - https://sites.google...omebrew-channel
Wad Manager - https://sites.google...use/wad-manager

Just to clarify - this is only for the WiiFlow currently coded by Fix94, Overjoy, and team which I'm a part of.

so, as suggesting stuff for the "more to come" part, is this meant to stick to the stuff that works for BOTH WiiFlow-Advanced AND WiiFlow-Mod and I should stick to that or does the title WiiFlow (Mod) just go with the point that WiiFlow-Mod now IS the standard WiiFlow and this should be a complete guide for that branch?

If possible, I would say do both, but keep it seperate. I mean cuz some ppl might not want the mod features and just want their Wii games backed up while others would want emuflow on theres. I have both so I could go either way. But right now I'm still trying to piece my wiiflow-mod together cuz right now it's like one big ass puzzle I'm wanting to put together.

consoleCoverID=nintendo //I'm not sure what this does but I think it's there for other homebrew loader apps to use. Basically leave it alone. If anyone know what this does please fill me in so I can update this.
Thats for cover downloading, currently it is not used, but it will be use for gametdb, we already decided to use "nintendo" and "sega" as separate categories, nothing really done in that direction yet ;)

Great work on this Fledge!! I'm sure this will be very useful to a lot of people. I have recently included some info in my cover thread about setting up 'seperated' emulators. If you want to copy/paste that info until you get it set up, feel free. Would be nice to have it all together :)

Also a quick question.. are you planning on updating the "Themes & Source Packs" anytime soon? I've grown to loathe my old button set XD

Here's my most currents source_menu build, put together today source_menu - Frames & Hover Buttons 2nd Edition by mastershoes

Followup question: Can we specify locations for roms in 2 (or more) directories? I have mine delineated by gameboy, gameboy color, and gameboy advance. Should I just move all the roms into one folder?

I think that's fine if all your folders are in the same folder.

if you have some in
/folder/subfolder1/
and in
/folder/subfolder2/
and just set
romDir=folder
then everything should show up.

ok, thanks. I'll try that. Next question. I just got everything set up with plugins in the sdroot/wiiflow/plugins folder. But when I start wiiflow and go the plugins page, it tells me it can't find any plugins. Plugins are on SD, but I switched device to USB just to see anyway and if found nothing as well.

edit: More info: I changed the ini file to be romdir=Roms/Nintendo 64/Roms

Are spaces allowed in a folder structure? Do I need to enclose it in quotes?

The "plugins" folder needs to be on the same device and partition where your ROM files are stored.
First, move the folder to the SD card or the partition on your hard drive or USB key or whatever where you have the games themselves even if you have to put the "plugins" folder by itself in another, separate /wiiflow/ folder.
Then look in your "wiiflow.ini" file in the /apps/wiiflow/ folder and under the [GENERAL] section it says (among other things) where each of the different folders is located. Make sure that the beginning where it says SD:/, USB1:/, USB2/:, etc. is the same as where you put the folder.
Finally open WiiFlow and make sure the partition setting is the same.
If it still doesn't show anything, try refreshing the cache (in the home menu).

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
