Anyone else play Tribes? If not, you should. My name in-game is the same as it is here.

Tried playing it.

First the game wouldn't start and it took a day before I got an answer from Support with the solution.
Then the game wouldn't accept my login data (even though the same name&password worked on the site) and it took another day before that was solved by support.

Then it turned out that the game runs extremely slow, to the point where it is nearly unplayable, even though my machine far exceeds it's requirements and all drivers are up-to-date.

Which is where I had enough. Too bad considering how postiive of a first impression it made from watching video content about it.

Might return to it again once more of my friends "discover" it and ask me to play with them...

I was in the beta and it was an awful game. I enjoy the CONCEPT. But the execution was just morbid.

I know they've fixed a lot of issues, but from what i've heard, they didn't fix one major thing: bullet weapons still dominate. Unlike most weapons, where you need to TIME them to hit your constantly in motion, flying, bouncing around opponent, bullet weapons are next-to hitscanning and are so retardedly simple to use that you're basically stupid to pick anything else.

I had a bunch of other complaints but I really can't remember them anymore. Except that the patcher broke, I uninstalled it, redownloaded and installed and it still wouldn't update properly. I contacted support and I was pretty much told to fuck off after I told them redownloading didn't do anything. Classy.

Love the game, but I hate the fact my Macbook Air only has an Intel HD3000 and refuses to run at 60FPS at a resolution other than 800x600.
*stuff about hitscan*
It might be because I suck at the game, I'm running on a low resolution, or they changed it in a patch, but I find that the spinfusors (or any other weapon requiring good timing) is much easier to use than bullet weapons. Even if what you said is true, I don't mind. It's my fault IMO if I die to a bullet weapon.

I can't do hit scan weapons either, I feel like I can't actually hit anything with them.

It's a pretty fun game, but I do feel like the game is quite broken. Infiltrator for example is pretty unstoppable once they decide to camp at a generator. Being able to shoot while in stealth just doesn't seem right. Otherwise, it's pretty fun.

I dunno how it could ever be -easier- since bullet weapons are literally "have the enemy in your crosshair and fire till dead" where as any other kind of weapon requires you to understand the speed of the projectile and lead appropriately (which admittedly isn't that hard, but there's just no way possible that it's easier).
That said, other weapons were buffed to try and make them comparable to bullet weps, so if you can hit your opponent even 80% of the time, you'll always kill someone with a bullet weapon. But in a game like Tribes, fighting someone who knows what they're doing...good luck hitting that well.

The thing is, people tend to move so fast in this game that it's rather difficult to hit your opponent 80% of the time. Spinfusors and other weapons have splash damage, so you only need to time your shots for when enemies touch the ground (unless you play the game enough to know the timing of hitting someone in the air).
Or it's just that I suck too much with KB+M that I have terrible aim. Either way, the explosive weapons are great for people with terrible aim.

FYI, this game just came out in Steam's F2P section.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-06-27-tribes-ascend-gets-steam-release

I downloaded it and played the tutorial and did some free roaming and it runs okayish at medium settings and great at low settings.
