just to let everyone know Overjoy doesn't like the home button being used for the source menu. So that will be reverted and maybe an option added to wiiflow.ini for those of you that like to use it. otherwise there's still the + button while on the view icon
Can i suggest using the B button? this is a more common interface choice on the wii, and most users will be used to it. i.e. A selects and B goes back. this will mean dropping B on favourites to open catagories, but perhaps there's space for a catagories button, or we could use plus on favourites?

also, if the home button's freed up, how about launching a shutdown/standby/restart option menu?
How about using A on the view icon to bring up the source selection screen? Seems the most logical to me. I sill can't get rid of cycling through NAND when I use A on the view icon (disabling it doesn't work).

Or if there was a way to override which button did what on that icon that would be ideal. I really don't like +/view as it is not natural IMO.
how about 'b' on home/exit icon?
Using 'B', or any other button press over an icon - is just a bit too bizarre for most people, i reckon. While it's always good to have shortcuts, and that's why i made the + icon press suggestion, you really should be able to get around the interface just by pressing A on icons and B to go back (or up a folder level). It just makes for a more intuitive interface, and is the de facto standard with the majority of wii menu interfaces. indeed, this is already what happens in wiiflow when pressing A on a game cover.
I would suggest that the home, disk and other icons are defunct within coverflow, are better placed in the source menu(or already are), and should be replaced with catagories and source menu buttons in coverflow. This would encourage a more point and click interface, with less obscure and arcane button over icon presses, and with the information and choices available clearer to the user.

Obviously, it's all very well me saying all this, but somebody actually has to make the decision to do the work.

What do you think?
I've just read this back and realised i've simply restated my opinion. twice. doh. Does anyone know what's the plan for the (handset, 'hard') home button?

Could you please stop making posts about things doesnt work which didnt get fixed yet? that doesnt help
Many things used to work before (nand dumping, nand launching, auto patching...) we're just reporting what went wrong in the updating process, I don't see any harm in doing so.
I think that was geared more towards matto21. The one liners regarding bugs which haven't been worked on are redundant, not constructive and are getting annoying no offense.

What about bugs reporting wiimote problems like.. Punch-out!! I can't get 2nd wiimote to pick up at all.. but in other games I can get it to pick up fine.

I manage software development teams for a living and the lack of a single place to report issues and request enhancements is a big problem. Some are reporting problems here, some use Google Code and some folks use IRC. This can divide the development teams attention and folks don't have a clear idea of when/if the issue they see will be addressed.

The suggestion I would make is use Google Code's issue reporting/tracking system as it was intended. If the devs stated that going forward only issues formally entered into the defect tracking system in Google Code would be addressed it will be a good start at implementing a good process to follow to help streamline development.

Issues can be discussed here and some folks may come to an agreement on if there really is an issue or an enhancement request and then someone can take the lead and enter them into Google Code. That way the system of record is Google Code and the devs only need to look there for defects or enhancement requests. Doesn't mean they will stop visiting here - but they won't feel the need to respond to each individual post - that is a huge waste of their time IMO.

Also, it is terrific to have such responsive developers, it has pushed WiiFlow to heights I never dreamed possible just six months ago given where we started. But the daily or 10x daily revs are counterproductive in terms of maximizing productivity.

I would recommend a modified agile/scrum approach for future WiiFlow development. Given how quickly the devs turn-around things I think a 1 week sprint would work.

This would entail that the devs have a weekly sprint planning meeting on IRC/Skype/email/however and review the open Google Code issues/enhancements and agree on a prioritization of issues from the backlog on Google Code and who will be working on what during the week. Usually such meetings are facilitated by a scrum master and I would be happy to help if the devs would like to go down this path.

At the end of each week/spring a rev would be built and uploaded to Google Code. Have a regular release schedule that incorporates whatever number of backlogged items that could fit in that weeks coding would give a predictability and set schedule that I for one would really like to see.

The testers would know they would get a new release each week instead of any number of times a day. Some may not like this approach since issues may take a few days or a week to get resolved instead of the almost instant turn-around on some issues that we see today. But in the 30 years that I have been managing software development that kind of instant fix is counterproductive as the developers waste a lot of their time on builds and managing the testers.

Anyway, that's my two cents on the subject. If anyone wants to try this out or would like more info on Agile/scrum development please PM me.

Cheers :)

I second that. individual backgrounds for different views would be very nice :D

No problem in reporting to Googlecode, but remove the bug reporting from here and all what you'll end up with is an introduction, and a couple of pages of deleted posts and jokes :)

I just added the homebrew cache bug to googlecode if this can make a difference: http://code.google.com/p/open-wiiflow-mod/issues/detail?id=72

Have a nice day
;)

well then that blows, i was just wondering, would it be easier to do with just one plugin to start. seeing as mplayer is the only plug in i plan on using.( that is unless neek2o plug in is added :), cover flow for a nand. that would be nice, pick the nand you want to load.). also what about instead of making wiimote buttons doing x,y,z.. we just add a pop up menu, with choices.(much like home brew/gx/an postloader.). when hitting the home button. this would also free up some of the other buttons for short cuts. instead of limiting them.
@ boston bc, i like that idea, also would cause less confusion among newer people wanting to use wiiflow, an we as a community answering them.( i look kinda dumb when i say " just grab X rev", when the Xrev gets up dated to Y rev, then Z rev.in the time it takes me to answer/ an the time it take that person to find/download his/her version.).

Just modded Fix94's forwarder mod v12 to be even more powerful. Dropped the eurotrance, also.

http://www.mediafire.com/?sowejbjq7rjqh28

I've sampled the actual WiiFlow interface, tried to make music, failed, and done this instead.

Enjoy

p.s. It's a bit big at over 5mb, but it might make you smile :D

EDIT:It's now both more powerful AND smaller @1.91mb :ha: (thanks Fix for the tip*)

*tip is to use Lz77 compression when importing audio into customizemii

@air,
It looks identical to FIX's default forwarder, only the 'music' is different. If you don't like it, it has the same channel ID as Fix's original wad, so you can reinstall that and all will be as it was.

EDIT: It's now smaller than the original, so you might just consider it a viable, non-eurotrance, alternative.

How are people doing screen grabs of this sort of thing?

Are there any good sources where newbies can learn how to fully setup the current WiiFlow, i.e. with the plugins, DML, VC, Wads, Nand Emulation, etc?

I've been away from doing anything except using the vanilla version of WiiFlow, i.e. launching Wii games only, that trying to catch up with this thread has gotten almost impossible. Getting WiiFlow up and running with Wii Games is not a problem, and I'm sure once we know where everything goes it will be easy. I'm shortly going to buy a new Hard Drive so will be able to start from scratch on that one, although at present I am stuck with using WiiFlow on a shared NTSF formated drive.

Looking for something that confirms which D2X cios is working best with WiiFlow, directory structure for WiiFlow, plugins, where to put roms, movies, etc, do we need to have the emulators for the relevant plugins installed, is a certain HD setup best, i.e fully NTFS, FAT32, multiple partition setups, how to start using Gamecube games, DML support etc.

I do not know anything about NAND dumping or NAND Emulation, and when people start talking about SNEEK etc I'm lost. I'll also be trying to figure that out, hopefully I do not need to be an expert to get it working in WiiFlow.

The WiiFlow wiki and development page seem to be lacking in simple instructions. Not that the advances are anything short of amazing, but very hard to catch up once you fall behind.

I would like to have a try getting the emulators working within WiiFlow, including movies, and gamecube support working, just to see the possibilities.

Looking to useg the default theme with working emulators with some games selectable and working for each supported console, and also checkout the movie support. I'd even be happy with it running from a single SD card with a single game of each format just as a test, as until I replace the dedicated HD for my Wii clearing or reformatting one of my NTFS drives just for WiiFlow is not really an option .

What bugs to expect would also be useful, so I can rule out them as my own errors.

I hope someone can help point me in the right direction.

If you know how IRC works i suggest you come to #wiiflow on irc.abjects.net.

Most of the time there is someone that would like to help you with setting up.
One tip: after you have asked your question, don't expect to get an answer right away, please wait at least half an hour for a responce.
