SEGA has said that it wouldn't be supportive of Nintendo's new console, Wii U, if it couldn't achieve the graphical prowess of current-generation hardware.

Craig Harris, formerly part of IGN.com's Nintendo editorial team, now a SEGA employee, said that Nintendo had to "release hardware that's of the expectations of the gamer today".

While talking about SEGA's upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines, which is being developed by Gearbox Software, Mr Harris explained that it simply wouldn't be on the console if the hardware didn't match up to today's platforms.

"I don’t think we would be bringing the game to a system that would be inferior to current systems.”

Nintendo is expected to showcase the console at June's Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.

I agree that the Wii U is going to face serious hardships if it's not even on par with the 360 or PS3 as of right now, but I don't think neglecting the system is going to help SEGA's case.

The Wii U is going to be serious competitive with PS4 and 720 in 2013. I dont know if Wii U will be successor. There is no assumption need for whats going on until 2013 reveal itself at first. Therefore, I wont buy it at all until I see how it is going through 3rd party and popular because i dont want to waste my money like Wii thanks to 3rd party declined.

Okay, I think the Wii U is about as powerful as PS3, which means the Wii U wont stand a chance against PS4 and the 720 power wise. I still think the Wii U will do well, but probably have a slow start.

Sega giving lessons to Nintendo about hardware.
Aside from the Saturn (which was still good, just difficult to develop games for) what have they done wrong??
They've made plenty of idiotic decisions in the hardware department.
The Gamegear was even less portable than the gameboy, where it tried outshine it with a colour and luminous display, it ate through 6 AA batteries in under an hour.

Instead of retiring the Sega Genesis, they kept on producing more models of the base system, and addons like the SEGA CD of limited success, and the 32X of particular failure. They even had the SEGA Nomad, and the Multi-Mega. Where they kept redesigning the base Sega Genesis, they never improved the Game Gear by addressing its portability or battery life issues.

When they announced the release date of the Sega Saturn at E3, instead of an actual release date they started selling the systems on that exact day. Nobody was able to find them in shops, nobody was prepared to save up for the system.

The Sega Dreamcast managed to lose the support of EA somehow, meaning they didn't get the EA sports titles that so often push the sales of a system. There was also the mistake of relying on optical media to prevent piracy of the software, and itself did not have much in the way of actual software security. This ultimately lead to the Dreamcast being very easy to pirate for.

this is why i love sega
Because Sega knows how to shoot their own foot?

I don't think Nintendo really needs Sega's help on their next system, in fact I think the Wii U will end up benefitting without crappy 3D Sonic games on it.

[Sonic Colors] [Sonic Generations]

Now which one do you think SEGA made more money from?
The title that they made for the Wii alone, or the title they made for PC, PS3 and 360? (Not counting handheld versions)

Games developed for the Wii are too low-spec to even consider porting to PS3/360. Games developed for the PS3 or 360 are too high spec to even possibly port to the Wii. Unless they want a repeat of Sonic Unleashed where the Wii/PS2 releases were actually an entirely different development team, much like how they usually relegate handheld versions of the games to another development team, they're gonna go for the system(s) that will get them the most profit.

If the Wii U can't even do cross-platform with 360/PS3 they're not going to consider developing software for it.

How so?

They could have easily ported Sonic Colours to the PS3/360. Just render the existing stuff in HD.

I can guarantee you that it is more powerful than the PS3/360.
