Run linux on what?? the 3DS, if they can make it ubuntu possible on it im totally in for it!
There's no way the system can run something close to the modern desktop version. The 3DS only has 128MB of RAM, as one point.
Exactly. The Wii can run linux, but I think asking a 3DS to run Ubuntu is a bit excessive.

No, Ubuntu will be modified for ARM and as low ram as posible. which in fedora have archived 44mb of ram cosumed.

Let me tell you, dont start the "no saying again".

Was just wondering since I don't really follow the 3DS hacking scene. Is this the only guy that is actually trying to hack the 3DS? If so then that's pretty sad.

No, everybody else is just quiet about it until they can exploit enough to not worry about Nintendo's updates removing hacks (No I do not mean by bricking)

well as for ubuntu ,maybe there is a way to emulate the ram through the sd slot, then you can have like a sort of virtual memory ram on a portion of the sd card or through the cart slot if there is ever a flashcard

but interesting fact, the ds linux that requires the extra ram slot 2 ram jump pack and the ds opera browser that needs it dont work on the 3ds cause it dont have the extra ram in the ds emulator mode, i wonder if there is some way to make the 3ds emulate the extra ram elsewhere ,either through the sd slot of the cart slot , i dont know why nintendo would not have gave the ds mode emulator the extra ram pak feature in it,but they didnt ,as far as i know anyway i forget if i have updated the fw since i tried to run them

Nintendo will never brick a 3ds in europe (i don't know for asia / america), why? Because when you buy a hardware (the 3ds), it became your hardware if nintendo brick it you can complaint at a court (sorry for my bad english i'm french...).

Fedora isn't Ubuntu.

Fedora is a Linux distro.
Ubuntu is a Linux distro.

I did read something interesting today.
Currently devkitPro is researching the feasibility of a branded flashcard without piracy features which should hopefully preserve our ability to create and share homebrew.

What if they managed to do this, then continued it on with the 3DS? We wouldn't be needing to jailbreak anymore. Or use AP circumvention methods.

That has been on the HB Menu page (I think that's where it is) for as long as the HB Menu page has existed (at least one year, possibly several) and nothing has come of it. There is already at least one homebrew only flashcard (Datel's Games n Music), very few people bought it as I understand because it was more expensive than other cards, so they figured they may as well get a cheaper one, even if they weren't going to use the ROM loading features.

Never heard about this cart, but the iPlayer is a pretty much homebrew only cart if you don't count emulators. Technically this cart is as much illegal as carts that can run commercial ROMs though. A cart that is homebrew only and legal at the same time will never exist IMO (at least if it's not a Nintendo licensed/manufactored cart)

The Games n Music was legal, it had no copyright Nintendo code. Cards compatible with DSi & 3DS can never be legal unless someone finds another bootloader exploit, rather than the current method of using (parts of) ROMs.

There's also the concern of the target platform (and thus the programs that will run on it), and this includes many of the programs tha are used as parts of ubuntu (as even the desktop environment is separate from the kernel). Ubuntu, in it's current desktop state, cannot run on the 3DS. If a *buntu-based distro runs, it will have been highly-modified.

I am not saying "no linux", I am saying "no desktop version of ubuntu".

Ubuntu is not all Linux.

There was also the iPlayer, but some people managed to get ROM's running on it.

The thing is, the moment you allow using unsigned code, there will be piracy. You can stand on your head, there still will be piracy. Someone someday will write something that will allow it, just because. Homebrew-only solutions are fairy tales, a dream never to come true, and maybe that's a good thing.

Everybody should have the right to backup their software, even software sold on cartridges. This obviously leads to even more piracy, since people find ways to boot illegal backups anyways.

All that said, no, a Homebrew-Only solution either won't sell well, since to cripple its backup compatibility you'd have to also cripple features, or it will be hacked itself to play backups. It's a viscious circle.

The Action Replay DSi managed to do this. I can't run retail roms on it, but I can run homebrew.

Okay, we are on to something now, but what can be ways to get the homebrew channel installed? Can their be things similar like the wii? fae: Letterbomb - sd - messages - mail thing...
