I just got my 3ds and i have a couple of questions

1. Are there any free downloadable apps for the 3ds? I checked Shop and didn't find something.

2. I noticed the 2 games in Mii Plaza. How do u obtain new mii for these games? Only via street pass when u get your 3ds on the road with u? Or is any other way via internet? And can u get new mii in mii plaza by creating new mii in mii creator? I ask cause i have created 2 mii allready and I can see only 1 in mii plaza.

1.Yes. pokedex 3d,nintedo video,netflix,swapnote,go to the apps thing on the eshop, you will see all of these over there and even more.
2.You have to streetpass someone for getting new mii's for the 'Find mii ' game.or you can buy heroes for play coins.For puzzles you have to again streetpass someone in order to
recieve blocks OR you can buy one for two play coins.You 'sometimes' get a free puzzle block through spotpass(ie when your 3ds is online).
Regarding the mii plaza, it has two areas, the plaza gate is where miis that you have streetpassed arrive and the initial screen is where the mii's you "met via spotpass" are shown(for eg. people you played mario kart's online multiplayer with). Yes you can get a new mii you have created in your mii creator to the streetpass plaza but you CANT get it to the plaza gate OR use it as a hero in Find mii.Go to your mii creator and check your mii's option and it should have an option to send it to the plaza.
My advice is dont send your personal mii's to the plaza! If you have mario kart and play online then in a few days you will have more than 3000 miis in your plaza!!!
I LOST MY GOLDEN butt mii's somewhere over there, i am gonna find them when i have a lot of free time =0

The free apps available depend on region, correct? I know there are a few in the US that we don't get in Australia like Netflix, but i am not sure what Europe has to offer.

Play coins are earned through registering your official 3DS games or signing up for Club Nintendo using the code with your console, right? I haven't done mine yet until I can get me IP masked as a US connection.

you can get 10 a day max and you get a coin every 100 steps you take

the coins elgarta is on about is if you registers USA region games on the USA club Nintendo
Euope get Nintendo Stars when they register games on Nintendo website

Y i mean the play coins u use to hire heroes in mii quest etc... As i have seen i cannot register to nintendo-club cause i live in greece and there is not an option for greece... I think that is lame :/
Also. what are the steps? I have 4 steps since yesterday. How u get steps? and how u get 10 coins max per day?

steps. as in walking
every 100 steps = 1 coin
10 coins is the most you can get each day

yea that's the idea

its a fitness feature to make people get some exercise

But as i have seen it counts steps only in sleep mode right? extra to that i think it is a feature to encourage u keep ur 3ds on u when u are out on street so u meet more 3ds users on streetpass.. Anyway i like nintendo's way of designing consoles and games, and that is why i didn't get a ps vita... I think nintendo is focusing on way better things than graphics themselves...

Pretty much, homemade software that work on DS flashcarts.
There's emulators like NESDS and Lameboy, media players like MoonShell, programs like Phidias and Colors for digital art, and many many games.

Ah yeah, thanks for clearing that up. Late night at work so I am a bit frazzled. Mine never leaves my house so I haven't earned a single coin on it through walking

Anyhow, I find that getting those play coins is really easy. 100 steps is... less than 500 meters of walking. When I walk the sandy road behind my home up and down with the dog, I change the date when I'm on the halfway point, and I get 16 coins each time.
