The PS Vita has just seen it's latest firmware go live just about a day before its wide release in western territories bringing it to version 1.61. The actual user experience improvements seem to be minimal. No word yet from Wololo on whether this patches the upcoming Vita HBL exploit or not.

Users looking forward to Vita HBL (PSP mode) should hold off on updating and stay tuned to the source link below or this thread until it is determined if this update is homebrew-safe.

UPDATE: Teck4 reports that the HBL is still functional on 1.61: https://twitter.com/...802148277981184

HBL? Am I missing something?
Half Byte Loader
It's a well known PSP hack that allowed user-mode homebrew (non-kernal, non ISO playing) back in the day. This particular exploit has proved to be compatible with the PSP mode of the PS Vita. It will be released shortly after the PS Vita's western launch tomorrow.

oh wow, piracy on day one?

...or at least, i was gonna say that, but then again this is no different than DS games piracy on day 1 of the 3DS launch.
"non ISO playing"

which sucks...i can tell you most people wont be stupid enough to re-buy their psp games to have them on one system...if anything should feel completely justified to even anti-piracy people, it would be sony's sad excuse for psp playback and how they are charing people to play those games they own on their new system...and even worse how some regions wont even get the discount.

Sony isn't forcing you to sell your PSP or buy them you know.

Besides, most people are already double-dipping on games.

no but they are asking you to carry around 2 bulky devices that barely fit in a pocket as is. I dont see why they bothered putting in the backwards compatibility if you can only get the game 1 way. It feels more like a sham to get more money out of people. And why screw over certain regions with the discount? Just makes me all for cracking the shit out of the psp mode.
