Given all the recent discoveries about health and how food can be medicinal and healing, do you try to follow the suggestions that seem to fly about the air so thickly?
There was that whole tuna situation, its good for you--its bad for you---its good for you again....its head spinning! Then there is butter....Bacon and all those other delicious things that they say are bad. Till they are good again...
There are fad diets and super cleanses.
I ask, is there a point to this seeming madness?

Is it better, in your opinion, to eat whatever and let the cardiologist, et al, sort it out,or to eat "healthy" (what ever that means in ten minutes) and try to forestall all the health issues?

From what I noticed, healthy food *usually* tastes like crap (usually being the keyword).

I'll be honest with you - I like my bacon. I like my burgers. I love my kebab. I love my greasy fries and I love pizza. I realize that those are unhealthy, thus I don't eat them on a daily basis, however I cannot even begin to imagine living without them.

I admit that I have a particular taste for Quorn products - they're delicious. I also like soy burgers - they're also great. Those are rarities in my diet though.

I *like* unhealthy food and I'm not particularily bothered by the fact it's unhealthy - I draw my vitamins from other "meals" or drinks, or suplements. Thing is, a day without a heartly meal, a cigarette afterwards and a can of energy drink is a day lost for me.

I'd rather live those 10-15 years less and actually enjoy my life then cut down on things I like, eat gravel and live an extra 10-15 years of mediocre life.

I am within the "why bother?" area. First of all, as stereotypical as it may sound, my family is Asian, so my mom usually prepares dinner (we barely eat 'instant' food or go out to eat). The menu changes in a 'cycle', depending on the day of the week (i.e. we eat fish on monday, meat on tuesday, etc... then goes back to fish on monday). I just eat whatever my mom makes, so I don't really bother how much nutrition (or junk) I get from what my mom makes.

Aside from dinner, I just eat a very generic breakfast (usually a peanut-butter sandwich) and school lunch (chicken sandwich + regular milk). I presume that everything's pretty average, without much positivity or negativity. I do eat quite a lot of junk (sugar ) between lunch and dinner (even after dinner, actually), although I never really cared about it. I don't know if it's my metabolism, but I never really get fat or anything.

My meals fluctuate, whatever I feel. My New Year resolution was to get bigger by the year's end-ish so I started to eat a lot more than I have been whilst still working out like a beast. So that means anything goes.

I voted on 'Why bother' because I'm quite lucky with my DNA and metabolism. I can eat whatever I want, and how much I want, I will hardly gain any weight and my veins won't clog in any way. I'm only 19 years old at the moment, but if I see my dad who really has no problems at all with eating anything, I feel assured :)

Diet is just as important as, if not more important than exercise. Your body is like an automobile. It performs based on what kind of fuel you put in it.

I try to eat plain oatmeal (steel-milled oats) with a banana every morning and almost always have leafy greens (no dressing) with dinner. I snack on yogurt, fruit cups, granola bars and cottage cheese throughout the day. And I eat fish twice a week on average (for those oh-so-good-for-you omega-3 fats).

Unfortunately I love beef and cheese as well, so it offsets the healthy stuff I eat. And I do eat junk food like pizza, fries, etc. I'm not so obsessed with counting calories. So I try exercise to offset the junk food when I have the time. I wish I had time to exercise more :(

I will admit I find it quite hard to eat healthy when I am stateside (I mean sugar as a standard ingredient in the bread....... and although it was less of an issue not much in the way fruit squash to speak of) but elsewhere in the world I find it harder and more expensive to eat unhealthily*. This being said much like money I just tend to not do anything outrageous and qive things a quick scan every couple of months to make sure I have not somehow gone off the rails and although I seem to have lost the ability of youth that allows one to eat as much of whatever and not have word one said about it I do seem to be able to eat proportional to what I do and not have my stomach cry out for more and have it tell me I am being a fat bastard if I overeat.

*I have to get up, find my wallet, get dressed up, wander into town, find a food shop that does not make me want to wretch after eating their food, spend ten minutes getting it to say nothing of the cost and ultimately not having my hunger properly sated (there is more to eating than just feeling full), order a takeout that has much of the same pitfalls of the first option (although I do like the odd Indian) or spend a fortune buying a nasty frozen pizza/equivalent in the supermarket and force that down after waiting half an hour for it to cook in the oven all vs spending ten minutes slicing some tasty stuff up that is actually pretty cheap on a per meal basis and throwing it in the wok.

Oh and relevant link I guess

Can't say I agree entirely but it was worth hearing.

These days I got out A LOT! Keep wondering about to find a healthy place to eat, but the end of the day, end up having BK, McDonalds, Subway or stuff like that :P

Subway can be healthy but still tasty to some degree though.

I'll take healthy eating seriously the very moment bacon is reclassified as a vegetable. Not before.

But seriously, I don't stuff my face or anything. I don't eat especially healthy food but I don't eat crap either. I keep a good middle ground where I'm not at major risk from clogged arteries but I can still claim to have taste buds.

I have to eat about three times the amount of food I would usally eat, because swimming burns so many calories, and uses so much energy. With that in mind I'm hungry almost all the times, so I just usally eat and grab anything in my reach and within my power to obtain.

So no I don't eat healthy because trying to do so would be expensive and hard.

i personally just try to avoid overly processed foods like corn syrup.
weather it's full of fat is not as big of an issue to me.

i don't care for organic, i don't think it really has an effect on our bodies. i do care for chemical free for environmental issues like run offs into rivers and other bodies of water. i also don't mind preservatives. but even so, the foods i prefer tend to be pretty natural. if i eat fruit it will never be sweetened or preserved etc. i prefer to bite right into it.

so anyway. my biggest concern is refined foods because they actually do fuck you up. like rot your teeth.
