I'm using WAD manager 1.7 by Waninkoko and am currently on Wii Menu 4.0U. I'm trying to upgrade my system menu to 4.3U using the WAD downloaded from the ModMii windows program. I tried googling the error but nothing came up. Help?

First thing never update system menu if not needed. Second if you already use modmii then make a full hack and not a single thing if you are not fully sure what you do.

As mentioned 4.3 is not needed, if you still want to update make sure you have IOS 80 installed or you will brick (since you only mentioned the System Menu wad).

Your wii may already be hacked but it's best to use modmii to completely remod it if you unsure and it will make sure everything is up to date, and will probably avoid this error.

If you use the ModMii wizard you should get a guide similar to this and 2 wads if you just want to update the system menu.
This guide was generated using the following parameters:
  • Current firmware is 4.0U
  • Desired firmware is 4.3U
  • Do not update active IOSs (can be enabled in options)
Load Multi-Mod Manager (MMM) via the HomeBrew Channel.

If IOS236 is not already loaded, select "Load another IOS", then select IOS236
Note: If this step fails with error -ret 2011 or other, you may need to retry patching IOS236. If the Wii was previously softmodded, you can try loading cIOS250 (or others like 202,222,223,224,236,249)

In Multi-Mod Manager's main menu, go down to select "WAD Manager".
Install the following WADs from the WAD folder (this list of WADs is unique to the information you provided ModMii).
Be careful not to install any additional WADs that may have been previously saved in this folder (they may be safe, but I cannot say for sure).

Mark each of the following WADs for installation by navigating to each WAD and hitting "+"
Alternatively, you can hold "+" for 2 seconds to select all the WADs in the folder.
After you've marked all the WADs listed below, press 'A' twice to install them.

If any files fail to install properly, they will remain marked for installation, so just retry installing those files.

Your unique list of WADs to install are as follows:
  • IOS80v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP])
  • SystemMenu_4.3U_v513
Note: Whenever you install a new System Menu, Priiloader is uninstalled. So be sure to reinstall it afterwards (especially if you do not have bootmii as boot2)
Thanks ModMii

The ideal version is 4.1.
Yep, because it's the last system menu version which contains a real update.
If they what their Wii to be 4.3 let them.
It's their choice, but that doesn't change the fact that updating is not a logical choice. 4.2 and 4.3 were designed to kill homebrew, brick region changed Korean Wii's, and block region free for modchips. No features or bugfixes were included.

It's not entirely true. IOS 58 and official usb 2.0 were introduced with sysmenu 4.3 as well.
The ios can easily be installed without the menu update as well, I know.
But, I think it was a new feature that came with system menu 4.3.

Actually that's not entirely true. IOS58 was out long before 4.3, just not on NUS. :P

Anyway, I'm not talking about full updates, I'm talking about System Menus. If we are counting full updates then I guess you could go ahead and say the stub that removed bootmii as IOS, the boot2 update (from 4.2, but included if you hadn't updated before) that removes bootmii as boot2, and the stubs that removed cIOS's were new features as well, lol.

It was needed for the microphone games or so I think.
Did those games just installed ios58 as update, or did they update the system menu to 4.3? Just curious.

They updated your SM if you had an old one, but it was before 4.3.

IOS58 was a nice addition to the HBC, but I'm still pissed at TT for saying that anything supporting IOS202 would be removed from wiibrew. In my experience (and it's the same for a lot of other people) 202 base 60 is a lot faster and has better compatibility. Media players always lag or don't detect my HDDs with IOS58, but it always works fine if I'm using a cIOS. Their excuse was that 202 is "ugly", it replaces a vanilla IOS making it risky, and is used for warez, which is complete nonsense since it uses an empty slot (no replacement), only media players use 202, and who cares if they think a cIOS is "ugly", it works better.

A note about unofficial IOS versions: There have been IOS hacks for USB2 support for a long time now. Those rip the USB1 module out of an IOS, and replace it with a USB2 module. You may not care about the uglyness of this approach, the code quality of the replacing modules, or the risks associated with replacing a vanilla IOS. But some coders (us included) do, and outright refuse to use it. On top of that, those nasty hacks are mostly used for warez loaders. IOS58 relieves us of that burden.

The AHBPROT feature, which we described one year ago, allows you to bypass IOS to access devices directly from the PPC, eliminating the need for any IOS patches. Starting now, we will remove all cIOS poisoned applications from the wiibrew.org wiki.

No, the reason for the removal of those apps is because there is absolutely no reason to install any "patched" IOS (18 months later and the warez loaders still haven't figured out how to use their cIOSes without installing them first) and historically n00bs have proven that no matter how simple you make instructions for them, they'll still fuck up and brick themselves by removing or replacing vital IOSes.

There is no replacement or danger from installing a cIOS in a slot over 200, and no warez loaders use 202.

Now that the network bug has been fixed, I can see why things like the Trucha Bug Restorer and Dop-Mii might be removed from Wiibrew, but there was no reason to bully developers into switching to IOS58.
