Hacking A few questions from a PSP noob

I am thinking about buying a PSP instead of a new cellphone since I only want a phone for music, videos and Wi-Fi and I found out that the PSP is very similar in price and I can do the same stuff I want plus the ability to play KH Birth by Sleep and some Yu-gi-oh games. But I do have a few questions. (Please don't be mad if they are totally stupid but I am new to anything not Nintendo)
1) What video formats can the PSP play? and is there homebrew for other formats?
2) Can I use Skype there? and if it I can, will it be calls only?
3) What should I buy, a PSP Go or a PSP 3004? (using for hacking purpose if that helps) (Also please state a reason)
4) Can you like multitask in it? like umm you play a song and in the same time view the browser?
5) Can you open youtube from the browser?
6) I heard the browser is laggy/slow so is there like a homebrew browser or something? XD

I know you might say I should have searched for it but I am currently very busy to search around (I only read a small part in Wikipedia so I do have a bit of knowledge on it) so I would really appreciate it if you have the time to help me with the questions. Thanks in advance.

2. Yes but you must be on OFW and its just talking which means you need mic. No chat.

MP4, and yes there are homebrew players that let you play mkv, avi and even flv like PSP Media Player. But I just use the native video player because I'm not lazy to convert my videos.

Skype is natively supported by the PSP's OS. You can only call if you have a mic if you're using a PSP2000 and older. You're fine with a PSP3000 and a PSPgo because they have mics built-in.

I'd get a PSPgo. For hacking them, check out the excellent guide written by Rydian

Not natively, no. You can use tonnes of homebrew apps that enable background mp3 playing however. Works even if you're playing a game (Though that will slow your game down considerably depending on the title)

I assume you mean the browser. I don't really remember, but you can always use the homebrew PSPTube to watch your YouTube videos online.

It's fine for what it is. If you want a more pleasurable web browsing experience, use a computer. I mean seriously, the PSP isn't built solely for web browsing after all. What I can assure you is that it's a lot better than the DS Opera Web Browser.

Remember - Unless you can try a Go first hand and check you're happy with it, the 3000 is a superior choice. The only notable things the Go have over it are portability and internal memory.

The PSP's browser sucks compared to that of most phones nowadays, and while there is a homebrew to view youtube, it's really buggy (lots of videos can't be viewed without crashing, many have garbled colors, stuff like that).

If your focus is web browsing and youtube, consider something else.

psp go has a brighter screen and the internal memory but the battery life is kinda crap. Not bad but not good either.

If you get the cables for the GO and a PS3 controller.... You can get a best of both worlds approach.... Portable fun that will last for hours (Even though you can not remove the battery so once the juice is gone, no replacing)... and great entertainment when your at home

There are screws on the back, just unscrew and replace the battery.

I admit it's a bit difficult, but there are guides.

It's really all about preference. I'm with the PSPgo mainly because it's smaller and has in-built memory. Everyone's reason for wanting a particular model varies.

Go to a shop that lets you sample the hardware firsthand. Use and feel both a 3000 and a go, and pick the one that fits you like a glove.

Basically it's the same.
I used to recommend people to buy a 3000 model, but since I got a GO too, I grew to like it even better then the regular models. It's like ZDF said above: It's all about preferences...

I know replacing the battery is possible... Some people buy a second PSP battery so when the first runs out they simply switch batteries and continue....

The deal clincher for why i brought the GO was when the batteries run out... It saves the state when your playing games so theres less chance of loosing your progress... I know that theres plugins that do the same things and does more but when you run out juice, your not going to loose things.
