ok so i am new at this...i have already hacked my wii using letterbomb. i have 4.3u firmware on it. i am already using gecko os and have used a few wiird codes on black ops. now i am trying to figure out how to make a backup of my game discs so i can put them up so that they dont get destroyed as i have 5 kids and they like to destroy them. i would like to be able to just play them off a usb but if that is not possible then at least through a usb dvd drive. also if there is a way to use the dvd drive to watch movies it would be nice as my dvd player just took a crap on me(thanx 2 kids) please help i will answer any questions u have as far as my wii goes... thanx in advance to all who help.
There are plenty of DVD dumpers for the wii.

You can watch DVD's on your wii if you have installed DVDx.
I currently have no clue if it still is possible with newer drives.

Not only is it perfectly possible to play from USB drive, it's even the most advised way to play your backups nowadays*. It's faster, more reliable, more convenient and downright the only way if your wii is older than around mid 2008. What you need is a few cIOS'es, a compatible USB stick or drive, an USB loader (both for ripping the game and playing it) and some time to learn how to use things. Check out modmii in the stickies for more details.

anyways yeah use cfg ubloader put one the the discs inside(make sure you have a usb in the usb port closest 2 the rear) press + it will automacticly dump the game to wbfs.

i've got 7 kids, usb loading on a usb hd is defiantly the way to go. the wii will dump your games once you have CFG set up. just put the game in like normal, then run cfg an dump it.
as far as dvd's go again usb loading with wiimc is great. though you can't dump those,you can load them on computer then transfer to the hd.(like i do with mine).
also check out wiiGSC, it will make a custom channel for games you have on you hd.(just like shop channel). then the kids will not get confused on how to play a game, just click the channel an play. i don't use our dvd drive in the wii anymore to play games.(just to dump.).
