This app seems really useful, it'd be amazing if it could do longer vids tho. =O
Btw, does this support matroska files? I tried adding a mkv file once, although it was an anime ep so it had well over 10 minutes so it kinda got stuck at converting. xP
Did that happen because of the time of the vid or because of the file type?

Anyway, other than that it works just fine with small things. =3
I was able to convert a 4GB+ .mkv file with no problem. I was using v1.00 though, so maybe something changed in the latest one? v1.00 should still be available to download should you want to try it out!

It supports any length of video via automatic splitting.

I decided to test the Linux 3ds Converter application on one of my machines to test it's reliability and the "date option" and I'm wondering is this application is a joke in most aspects:

1. The application has the same issue as Sifjar's but the other way around, I mean you can't choose an input video located in a folder with spaces but can choose whatever output folder you want located in whatever place (this is fair, not worries)

but the problems starts here:

2. If you have a video over 10 mins it won't split even thought theres a grayed check-mark specifying it
v8jvbs.png

3. It doesn't have a progress bar but an orange bar moving back and forth so the fact is you won't know how much it would take a specific video to finish converting
rkdj78.png
and
10yf7fq.png

4. ...and lastly you'll end up with an avi encoded in a video format that the 3ds won't recognize

In the date option you can select whatever date you "supposedly" want to be displayed in the 3ds but due to the fact that the output video won't play I can't tell weather it really works.

Application Rating: 1 of 10 stars

A 1 out of 10 just for that? That's pretty harsh.

Considering it apparently doesn't convert to a format that can be viewed on the 3DS, I don't think it is in the slightest bit harsh. The application is simply not fit for the purpose it was created for.

That is pretty strange, as I've tested the Mac OSX build of the 3DSEncodeGui, and it worked perfectly on snow leopard. I was able to encode the ice age 3 3D trailer from Youtube at top quality, and 24fps, which played perfectly on my 3DS. The OP in that thread also acknowledges that many things aren't working yet, including the autosplitting, but has implemented a placeholder for it in the GUI, hence the reason it is there by greyed out.

Maybe the Mac version is more functional than the Linux Build. I tested this application (Linux build) many times with many different videos and I always had the same result.

If it's not working then it shouldn't have a check-mark, even a greyed out one.

It's a placeholder for when the function becomes available, like I said already the OP in that thread has specifically stated it isn't working yet. Like most disclaimers, if you don't make the effort to bother reading into what you're downloading then it's not worth your time even testing the app as you will always be disappointed over the most trivial things without understanding why.

It is odd as another person in that thread has only compiled the same code for OSX from githib, the underlying stuff should be identical to the Linux build.

i cant get it to work,it starts fine, I give it the video and the destination, and it starts... and hangs

I got the previous version to work (1.0,) the one before the "Keep Aspect Ratio" was implemented. But this latest one (1.1) gives me a video not recognized by the 3DS (I did try the Keep Aspect Ratio feature though)

I added a warning to the first post saying some people are having problems with 1.10, advising people to use 1.00 if they have problems.

I have tried videos over 2 hours ( i.e. harry potter) and plenty others, it will take some time that is for sure. but once its finished you will have all the 10 minute clips and they all work on the 3ds. I have done multiple movies so far, some of them have been from mkv too i believe, but those seem to take so damn long.

I tried to convert this video http://videos.rockst...r1-wmv-1280.wmv but the 3DS doesn’t recognize it. I have used the following options: 2D, Keep Aspect Ratio, Quality=1, 3500 Kbps, 30 fps. All other videos I’ve convert with these options are fine. Please help me.

Hey OK-Master.
FFMPEG still isn't perfect, so there's always some problems with some formats.
I had success by changing the videofile to an avi format first.
I wrote a short commandline like "ffmpeg.exe -y -i inputfile.wmv -r 30 -b:v 6000k outputfile.avi" and then I used the 3DS Video converter on the outputfile.avi.
I have no idea why it works this way but maybe we should always implement a pre-conversion process ;)
