LONDON -- A Polish woman has told a British jury how she used her engagement ring to free herself after her boyfriend tried to bury her alive.
Michelina Lewandowska, 27, accuses her partner of attacking her with a Taser at their home, binding her with tape, and then putting her in a cardboard box that he buried in the woods.
Her partner, 25-year-old Marcin Kasprzak, is on trial with another man charged with attempted murder.
"He was putting the soil on top of me. I wanted to reply. I wanted to put my two fingers through the hole but I was afraid if he could see it he may break my fingers with the shovel," she testified Tuesday, according to BBC News.
Lewandowska testified she used her three-stone ring to cut the tape from her legs, then tore apart the box, which she said was buried in about 10 centimeters (4 inches) of soil.
Lewandowska told the court through an interpreter: "I cut the tape from my legs with this ring. I put the ring back on my finger then I put my whole hand through the opening," according to The Sun.
She said she managed to escape and flagged down a passing car that took her home.
Prosecutor Jonathan Sharp told the court on Monday that Kasprzak was "bored" of his girlfriend and "he decided to get rid of her," according to The Sun.
Both men deny attempted murder.
The trial at Leeds Crown Court was adjourned until Wednesday.
