Indeed, they're giving it out for free so people can review it properly. The last thing I'd want to hear is for tons of people to get one with the developers behind the device expecting a review which they don't get or for the reviews/3DS sections flooded with poor quality reviews.

As for the device, if it is able to delete the infamous "permanent saves" like on RE: Mercs, it seems worth it... Unless a firmware update or something just completely nixes it.

worst case, youd need someone to upload their fresh games empty save

it doesnt seem to support a blank save funktion or something like that.

This is pretty interesting. I don't see people buying this like crazy, and I am suprised to see it being offered for free. I wonder what price tag it will get.

I guess a practical use is for kids or someone who is too lazy to beat the entire game. It would be very useful for games with unlockables, like racing games and such.

i think, the biggest problem for devices like this is, that they can only be ordered from some random site somewhere online where only communities like these actually hear about it.
if this was sold over amazon or gamestop for 10-20$, it surely would be bought a lot more.

Just received my email of being accepted.

I plan on doing a truthful review using both my old DS carts up to my more recent 3DS carts.

Including the pesky Pokemon carts like Pokemon White, SoulSilver and Pearl. We'll see how useful this save downloader really is.

Edit:

I believe the R4i Save Dongle should do the same things as the NDS Adapter Plus. I never owned one and the NDSAP is only sold through the makers website.
I can't compare them but from reading it the ideas are the same. We'll see if this sort of thing takes off with the R4 name on it or not.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. But with a device like this, if we are one day able to edit save files, couldn't we download a save, and perform a certain action that allows for the 3DS to be overpowered, like the Twilight Hack for the Wii?

I'm sure thats oversimplifying the situation, but am I wrong to think that such a device could be used one day to softmod the 3DS?

Possible

When save files can be modified properly, how wide use cheating will be with this device, will suck. :/

If you got one, are they expecting a positive review or a truthful one?
Truthful. I mean, you get the device for free and you only need to write the review afterwards, so even though they would love your review to be positive, if the product is shit the review should be negative. That said, I think this'll be good stuff.

Doesn't the NDS Adaptor Plus do the exact same thing?
Yes, but it costs about twice as much.

This is free.
No, it isn't.

I just sent out an email wanting one. I don't know if I will get one, but I'm hoping. I got a ton of friends who try to cheat on some games, and they screw up their games by using too much codes. Would be nice to use this to save their games before they screw them up.

I wish I had known about this competition earlier. I wrote them an e-mail anyway, hoping to win. I could finally use this for uploading that DSi hack to My Healthy Cooking Coach if I win a free sample.

Entered the competition to win one. I hope I win.

The auto response email I got is some awkward engrish:
Dear Sir/Madam, (or to whom it may deserve)

Your mail is well received, noted with thanks. I'm not available at the moment. I'll give you a detailed response when I'm free. Thanks.

Only made possible by the person who cracked the encryption/decryption process for the saves themselves. Companies trying to make a profit off another person's findings xD

HMMM... I wonder when thats happened before?

Hey now. That was a legit card. It introduced the masses to the DS homebrew scene and was a homebrew-ONLY card. The tiny ass card wasn't even physically capable of loading ROMs.
Indeed, if it wasn't for that I wouldn't be here. Found it one day in some clearance isle picked it up and was introduced to the world of homebrew. Now I'm content with my buggy, poorly produced M3i Zero. :D

I just applied and wrote a really long and detailed letter so hopefully I'll be able to get a free one :D
